Valentine's Day was drawing nearer. As Schroeder was sitting at his grand piano, he was thinking to himself.
"I wonder what to get her for Valentine's Day?"
Of course Schroeder was thinking about Mary Stewart. He was planning to get something special for Mary. Just then, the doorbell rang.
"Hopefully that's Mary at the door." Schroeder thought to himself.
But it wasn't. It happened to by Lucy.
"Oh, good grief!" sighed Schroeder. "Hopefully she won't talk to me about love again!"
But Schroeder had to give up his hopes.
"Schroeder." said Lucy. "Since Valentine's Day is drawing closer, I've gotten the neatest idea yet."
"Oh, don't tell me." said Schroeder. "You want me to get you an engagement ring and…."
"About that." said Lucy. "I suggest you dump that blonde, and look for someone with black hair like….. moi?"
"Forget it, Lucy." said Schroeder.
And Schroeder tried to pull his piano up, but to no avail. The piano was far too heavy.
"Nice try!" smirked Lucy.
"Rats!" Schroeder groaned.
Over at the Browns' place, Charlie Brown was writing a special valentine card when Wally waddled in.
"What are you doing, Big Bwother?" asked Wally.
"I'm writing a special valentine card." said Charlie Brown.
"What's a special valentine?" asked Wally.
"A valentine is for a day called Valentine's Day." said Charlie Brown. "Celebrating the day you give special gifts to anyone you really like."
"Oh." said Wally. "I wanna make valentine."
"Not now, Wally." said Charlie Brown. "Maybe wait until you're older."
"I guess so." said Wally.
While Wally waddled out of his brother's room, Sally walked in.
"Big Brother." said Sally.
"Let me guess." said Charlie Brown. "You want me to help you with your homework."
Not that." said Sally.
"You want me to tie your shoes for you." Charlie Brown said.
"I know how." said Sally. "And my shoes don't have laces anyway. I'm actually here to ask help on making a valentine card for my Sweet Angel."
"Sally." said Charlie Brown. "You know Linus has Janice."
"Not Linus." said Sally. "I mean Harold Angel."
"That's just it." said Charlie Brown. "Try drawing an angel on your card."
"Thanks, Big Brother." said Sally as she left her brother's room.
Over at the Riches' place, Frieda was looking in the mirror while primping her curly hair.
"I wonder what my Tommykins has planned for me?" Frieda thought to herself. "Is he gonna make me the most special card?"
Violet was over at Patty Swanson's house, speaking to each other about love, and what their favourite boys plan to do for their special day.
"Patty." said Violet. "Are there any special plans for Valentine's Day for you?"
"Well," said Patty Swanson. "I hope Pig-Pen takes me to the fanciest restaurant in town."
"Ew!" Violet wretched. "He'd better clean up for that."
"Come on, Vi." said Patty Swanson. "A little dirt never hurt anyone."
"Says you." scoffed Violet.
"Huh?" Patty Swanson was surprised.
The next day at school, during lunch, everyone was talking about what they were going to do on Valentine's Day. All the girls sat together.
"What are you going to do on Valentine's Day, Heather?" asked Mary Stewart.
"I hope Charlie Brown takes me on a most special date." said Heather Wold. "If not, the most special valentine card in the world."
"I hope my Schroeder takes me to a fancy restaurant." said Lucy.
"Lucy?" said Mary Stewart. "When are you going to realise he's my Schroeder?"
"Fine!" pouted Lucy.
"I hope Pete takes me to the local French restaurant for Valentine's Day." said Peppermint Patty.
"France is a lovely place to be, isn't it, Sir?" asked Marcie, remembering their trip to France.
"France is a belle place to be." said Violette. "Too bad Je don't have a boyfriend."
"That day may come one day, Miss Violette." said Marcie.
"I want my Tommy to take me on a special day out." said Frieda.
"I wonder what Linus has planned for me." said Janice.
Lucy turned away from the other girls, feeling left out, mainly because of how she herself doesn't have a boyfriend.
"Go on! Keep your Schroeder!" pouted Lucy. "I didn't wanna marry you anyway!"
Lucy got off her seat and walked away, and suddenly, she bumped into a boy.
"Oh. Sorry…. Sebastian?!"
And there he way, the boy Lucy had been spending a lot of time with lately.
"Hey, Lucy." said Sebastian.
"You okay?" asked Lucy.
"I've never felt better." said Sebastian. "What's wrong with you?"
"I'm feeling a bit….. left out." said Lucy sadly.
Sebastian had an idea.
"Lucy." said Sebastian. "How would you like to spend Valentine's Day with me?"
Lucy thought for a moment. No boy had ever asked her out on a date let alone a valentine date.
"Sebastian…." Lucy said.
"Yes?" asked Sebastian.
"It's a date!"
And Lucy walked off with a broad grin.
Charlie Brown was sitting at a table with Schroeder, Linus, Franklin, Tommy, Shermy, Pierre, Pig-Pen, Floyd and Roy.
"So what do you have planned, Tommy?" asked Charlie Brown.
"I'm going to take Frieda…." Tommy answered.
Tommy then whispered into Charlie Brown's ear.
"That sounds amazing!" said Charlie Brown.
"What are your plans, Cuz?" asked Roy.
"Oh, my lambcake will be most surprised." smiled Floyd. "Polly will enjoy it, I just know it!"
"At least he's not calling Marcie or Lucy 'Lambcake' anymore." smiled Tommy.
"Janice will enjoy her time with me." said Linus. "She'll be most surprised."
"Wait until Marcie sees what I got for her." said Franklin.
"Violet will enjoy my gift for her." said Shermy.
"I think just this once. I'll clean myself for my date." Pig-Pen said to himself.
That afternoon, as everyone was making their way home, Tommy explained to Charlie Brown all about what he had planned for Frieda.
"I've been thinking about recreating our first date together," said Tommy. "But then she'd find that a big predictable, so I'm going to prepare something else."
"What might that be?" asked Charlie Brown.
"I'm going to take her to the new Italian restaurant that just opened in the city centre." said Tommy. "Doesn't that sound romantic, Charlie?"
"I'm sure it does." said Charlie Brown. "In fact, I'm going to take Heather to the movies. Anything for my one and only…. Little Red-Haired Girl."
"Looks like we both have a Little Red-Haired Girl to be proud of." said Tommy.
But what neither boy realised was that Emerald had been eavesdropping on them.
"So Tommy wants to take Rita to the new restaurant, does he?" Emerald smirked. "I'll give him a date!"
Over at the Greens' place, everyone was having their dinner. Emerald had a whole pizza, while Jasmine had strawberries, and Eugene had carrots.
"Well, still better than the green stuff." smiled Eugene.
"Fruit for dinner?" Jasmine said. "This makes for a nice change over the green stuff you usually give me."
"What do you have planned for Valentine's Day?" asked Anya.
"Do I have something special?" asked Eugene. "I'm going to bring Lydia on the very best date she never had in her life!"
"What about you, Jasmine?" asked Riley.
"Me?" quizzed Jasmine. "I hope one boy asks me on a special date. Too bad I don't have one."
"Emerald, how about you?" asked Eugene.
But Emerald didn't answer. She just scoffed her pepperoni pizza down, not slice by slice, but the entire pie. She had a scheme in her mind, but she didn't want to tell her folks nor her siblings.
"Good grief!" groaned Eugene.
Schroeder had finished his Mac and Cheese for dinner, and went over to his piano to play. And much to his shock, there was Lucy, resting on it.
"Oh, good grief!" groaned Schroeder. "If it's about me taking you on a valentine date….."
"About that…" said Lucy. "Keep your Mary. I've got a different boy taking me on a date."
"Who might that be?" asked Schroeder.
"I'm going to spend Valentine's Day with Sebastian." Lucy answered.
"I knew you were a crab." chuckled Schroeder.
"Not that Sebastian!" Lucy laughed.
"Well, good luck with your Sebastian." Schroeder said.
Then Schroeder looked the other way.
"Yes!" he said to himself.
Valentine's Day had finally arrived. And all the boys were getting themselves dressed up.
Charlie Brown had dressed himself in a navy tux, white dress shirt, black bow tie, and black dress shoes.
"Charlie Brown, looking smart for a blockhead." he said to himself.
Outside the Browns' house, there was Snoopy with a limo. Charlie Brown went across the street and knocked on the door, and who should answer it but Heather Wold.
There was Heather, wearing a pink headband instead of a bow, a purple sleeveless shirt, a purple knee length skirt, and matching purple ballet flats.
"Oh. Hey, Heather." said Charlie Brown. "Looking ex-quis-ite!"
"Thanks, Charlie Brown." said Heather. "Ready for our date?"
"You betcha!" said Charlie Brown as he escorted his Little Red-Haired Girl into the limo that was waiting outside.
As Heather was about to enter the limo, Emerald walked by.
"Emerald?" quizzed Charlie Brown.
"Just going to find a Christmas present for Tommy." fibbed Emerald.
"But Christmas was two months ago!" Heather corrected.
"I know." said Emerald. "But it's for next Christmas."
At the Riches' place, Frieda was primping her hair, and was just about to change into her fancy outfit when she heard the doorbell.
"Tommy's here already?" quizzed Frieda. "But I'm not ready yet."
Frieda decided to answer the front door anyway. And much to Frieda's surprise…
"Emerald?!"
"Hello, Rita." said Emerald.
"It's Frieda."
"Sorry. Frieda." Emerald corrected herself. "I just want to apologise to you for threatening you all those years ago, threatening to ruin your hair."
Frieda was surprised. She didn't expect Emerald to apologise.
"To make it up to you," Emerald continued. "How would you like to come with me. I've found the ideal rose you could give to Tommy for your special date."
"Oh, I would love that quite nicely!" smiled Frieda. "Still plenty of time before my date with Tommy."
"Emerald Green, you've outdone yourself again!" Emerald smirked in her thoughts.
So Emerald went off, and Frieda followed.
"Where are you taking me, Emerald?" asked Frieda.
"Patience, Frieda." said Emerald.
At the Halverson place, Tommy had gotten himself dressed. He had put on his green tux, red bow tie, and black dress shoes.
"Oh, Frieda will enjoy me in this outfit!" Tommy said to himself. "Just like the day she gave me that valentine! I'll never forget that very day!"
As Tommy had said this, the doorbell rang.
"Mum! Please answer the door!" called Tommy.
Karina answered the door, and there was Katie Halverson, the Little Pigtailed Girl. She went up to Tommy's room.
"Hi, Cuz." said Katie. "What are you doing?"
"Preparing myself for my Valentine date with Frieda." said Tommy. "You haven't seen her yet, have you?"
"Not really." said Katie. "Probably taking a long time to get herself dressed."
"Probably taking too long to primp her naturally curly hair." Tommy joked.
Soon, Frieda and Emerald had made it to the woods.
"Say, what are we doing out here?" Emerald asked herself.
"Just looking for a rose you wanted to get for Tommy." said Emerald.
Frieda looked around and right there, there was a red rose.
"Is that it?" asked Frieda.
"It sure is." said Emerald. "I hear red is one of Tommy's favourite colours."
"This he sure will love." said Frieda as she approached the flower.
"That's it." Emerald thought.
But as Frieda pulled on the rose, an enormous hole in the ground surrounded Frieda, causing her to fall right down. Frieda looked right around where she had ended up. There she was, sitting right at the bottom of an enormous hole Emerald had dug.
"Hey! What's the big idea?!" Frieda demanded.
"What does it look like, Rita?" smirked Emerald. "This is what you get for getting me expelled from Birchwood Elementary all those years ago!"
"You wait until I get you!" Frieda said angrily. "You are mad!"
"No use crying for help!" laughed Emerald. "Nobody comes out here especially at this time of night! You stay here while I get some things you'll rightfully need while you're down there."
"HELP ME!" Frieda screamed. "I'M IN THIS HOLE!"
Polly was at her place, and she had dressed herself in a pink shirt without sleeves, a white skirt, purple earrings, and blue boots with high 5 cm heels. She'd removed her yellow headband.
"Polly Carlson, looking pretty." smiled Polly to herself.
The doorbell rang, and Polly made her way to the door.
"Where are you going dressed so well?" asked Henry, Polly's father.
"On my very special date." said Polly.
Polly opened the door, and there stood Floyd, dressed in a black tux, a blue bow tie, and black dress shoes.
"Hi, Lambcake!" said Floyd. "Ready for your special date?"
"Am I ever!" Polly said. "Let's go!"
And Floyd held Polly's left hand with his right, and Polly followed on behind. Polly hadn't wobbled once despite the height of her heels. Her years as circus performer had paid off, hadn't they?
Lucy was at her place. She decided to dress in something more cozy and love-themed. She put on a blue headband, and put on gold earrings, a blue skivvy, black jeans, and red boots with inch heels. Linus came into his sister's room, and noticed his sister.
"Hey, Lucy!" said Linus. "Going on a valentine date, I see."
"I sure am, Little Brother." said Lucy. "You know that Sebastian kid?"
"Yes, Big Sister." said Linus.
"He's taking me out!" Lucy grinned. "Tell you what. You enjoy your date with Janice."
"Thanks, Lucy." Linus said as he went into his room to change into his best outfit.
Back in the woods, Frieda was still in the hole Emerald had dug for her.
"Good grief! Is anyone gonna come and help me?" Frieda asked herself.
Then Frieda had an idea.
"I've got it!" cried Frieda. "I'll try climbing out!"
Frieda pierced her fingers into the dirt and tried to get herself out, but to no avail.
"Good grief! This hole is quite slippery on the sides!" she said to herself.
Meanwhile, Tommy was at his house, pacing the front yard.
"Where could Frieda be?" Tommy asked himself. "She should be here by now!"
"Still waiting for Frieda, are you, Tommy?" asked Katie.
"Yes." said Tommy. "I…."
Then Tommy remembered.
"I'll go over to her house and see what's wrong."
And that's what Tommy did. As he arrived, who should answer the door but Millicent, Frieda's mother.
"Oh. Hi, Tommy." said Millicent.
"Millicent." said Tommy. "Frieda hadn't arrived yet. Do you know where she is?"
"Well, Emerald came over and they both went to find a rose for you." said Millicent.
"A rose?" quizzed Tommy. "I didn't…. Hey wait a minute! It's not like Emerald to be nice to Frieda!"
Emerald was smiling to herself that her plan to ruin Tommy and Frieda's date had succeeded.
"Now what other date?" wondered Emerald. "Yes, of course!"
Emerald came to the Swanson place where Patty Swanson was getting herself ready for her date with Pig-Pen.
"Hey, Patty." said Emerald.
Patty Swanson looked at Emerald. She started to wretch. While she didn't care much about Emerald's weight gain, she felt uneasy.
"Ew." Patty Swanson groaned, as Emerald started to have bad body odour.
"I know just where to find your Pig-Pen." said Emerald.
"He's at his house, trying to get himself clean." said Patty Swanson.
"Actually, the Pig-Pen is in the woods. Come with me."
"I guess so." sighed Patty Swanson.
When they got there, Patty Swanson saw the rose, and as she pulled it, she landed right into the trap, the very same place Frieda landed.
"Oof!" groaned Patty Swanson.
Patty Swanson turned round and saw Frieda.
"Frieda?! What are you doing in here?!" cried Patty Swanson.
"The same thing you're doing here!" Frieda said angrily.
"Joke's on you!" laughed Emerald. "When I said Pig-Pen, I meant a mud hole!"
And Emerald walked off.
Meanwhile, Charlie Brown was at a fancy restaurant with Heather, and they were sharing their table with Linus and Janice.
"I wonder how Tommy and Frieda are going on their date?" wondered Charlie Brown.
"Well, I did see Frieda go with Emerald earlier." said Linus.
"So did I." said Charlie Brown.
"Frieda? What would Tommy be doing with Frieda?" quizzed Janice.
"I don't know either." said Heather. "Emerald just said she was helping Frieda buy a Christmas present to apologise."
"Hey, wait a minute!" cried Linus. "Christmas was two months ago!"
Tommy remained right outside Frieda's house, wondering where she was and what she was up to.
"If only Frieda would hurry up and start our date!" Tommy grumbled.
"Patience, Tommy." said Gordon, Frieda's father. "She'll come back, you just know it."
"I guess so, Gordon." said Tommy.
But little did Tommy realise that Frieda was well and truly stuck.
Frieda and Patty Swanson had remained in the hole they were trapped in when another unexpected guest landed. This was none other than Violet Gray. She had just let her hair down while preparing for her date with Shermy.
"Violet?" quizzed Frieda. "What brings you down here?"
"Emerald told me that my Shermykins would be down here!" Violet exclaimed. "But he isn't! I just see Frieda and Patty!"
"She told me to get a flower for my sweeteridoo Tommy!" Frieda said angrily.
"She told me Pig-Pen would be down here!" Patty Swanson added.
"So it was a trick!" grumbled Violet.
"Wait, wait, wait!" Frieda said. "If we both scream together, someone might come down and help!"
The three girls took a deep breath, and then….
"HELP! HELP!" the three girls cried.
Floyd decided to take Polly out to see the stars. They were going right through the woods.
"Why are you taking me down here, Floyd?" asked Polly.
"It's the perfect place to see the stars, Lambcake." said Floyd. "With no lights out here, we can….."
"HELP!" came a few voices.
"What was that?" asked Floyd. "More lambs?"
"That's not lambs!" said Polly. "That's… calls for help!"
Floyd and Polly followed the calls for help, and then….. she opened the hole.
"Good grief! There's some girls in here!" Polly exclaimed.
"I'll go and call the police." Floyd said.
"And I'll call someone else." said Polly.
While Floyd picked out his phone to call the police, Polly got her mobile phone and called….
"Hello? Colonel?" Polly asked. "How are my dogs? Great. Bring them out here to Shea Forest."
Tommy was losing patience. He was on his way home, hoping Frieda would be waiting there when Lucy walked by with Sebastian.
"Oh. Hey, Lucy. Hey, Sebastian." said Tommy.
"Hi, Tommy." said Lucy.
"Hey." said Sebastian.
"Hold on." said Tommy. "You mean to tell me….?"
"That's right, Tommy." smiled Lucy. "Sebastian is my new maestro."
"Maestro?" Sebastian said. "You mean?"
"That's right." said Lucy. "He's my new boyfriend."
Lucy leaned up and kissed Sebastian's right cheek, causing Sebastian to blush bright red.
"At least Schroeder won't have to deal with Lucy anymore." smiled Tommy.
"Say, where's Frieda?" asked Lucy.
"Frieda's….. missing." said Tommy. "We were supposed to date tonight and she hasn't arrived!"
"Well, she might turn up. Goodbye, Tommy." said Sebastian as he took Lucy home.
Tommy continued to walk when he spotted Shermy.
"Good evening, Shermy." said Tommy.
"What's so good about it?" asked Shermy. "Violet's missing!"
"That's what's gone on with Frieda too!" Tommy said angrily.
"You mean you're dateless too?" asked Shermy.
"If only we found out where they were." sighed Tommy.
As Tommy wondered this, Pig-Pen came up, about to reach the Swanson place to see why Patty Swanson hadn't shown up when he spotted Shermy and Tommy. Pig-Pen had cleaned himself quite nicely.
"Hey, Pig-Pen! Looking sharp!" said Tommy.
"Thanks." Pig-Pen said. "I wish Patty was here to say that."
"Patty?" quizzed Shermy.
"Patty's missing too?!" exclaimed Tommy.
"She was supposed to take me on our date tonight!"
"That's what's also going on with Violet!" grumbled Shermy.
"Frieda's gone too!" added Tommy.
"I suggest we go to your place and wait." suggested Pig-Pen.
"Good idea, Pen." said Tommy.
"Come on. To Tommy's house." said Shermy.
Back in the woods, Polly's poodles, Bibi, Kiki and Fifi were holding each other's paws with Polly holding Kiki's back legs, trying to reach Frieda, Violet and Patty Swanson, and they grabbed Patty Swanson's hands, Violet grabbed Patty's waist, and Frieda grabbed Violet's waist.
"Got them!" Polly grunted. "Now, Floyd!"
Floyd grabbed Polly by the waist, and pulled Polly, sending poodles flying with Frieda, Patty Swanson and Violet landing on solid ground.
"Phew! Thank you, Polly and Floyd!" sighed Frieda with relief.
"Anytime." smiled Polly. "Now, we wait for the police."
Meanwhile, Emerald was sitting in her house, eating cheesecake for her dessert. She had cut herself a slice. At that point, Eugene came home with Lydia in tow.
"So how was your night, Little Brother?" asked Emerald.
"It was so beautiful." smiled Eugene.
"Genie even gave me a music box, the best I've ever received." smiled Lydia as she held it out.
"I wonder how Frieda's going?" Emerald asked herself.
"I think she's not going well at all!" came a voice.
Emerald stopped eating, and she was looking around to find who said that.
"Who said that?"
"I did!"
It was Frieda, with Violet and Patty Swanson behind her, with some mud on their clothes, and they were so livid, they'd make Lucy at her crabbiest look like a sunny mood.
"So! This was your idea, make us miss our dates?!" Violet said angrily.
"Um…. er….." Emerald was speechless.
Tommy, Shermy and Pig-Pen were standing at the Halverson place.
"Hope they come over soon." said Tommy.
At last, the police car pulled up to the Halverson place, where Frieda, Violet and Patty Swanson got out, and ran to their loved ones.
"Pig-Pen!" Patty Swanson cried, as she hugged him.
"Shermykins!" Violet cried, hugging Shermy.
"Tommy!" Frieda finished.
Frieda reached Tommy and hugged him, happy to see him.
"I was so worried about you!" Tommy said, hugging Frieda back.
"So what will you do to make it up to us?" asked Violet.
"How about we triple date on Friday?" asked Tommy.
"Count us in!" Frieda, Violet and Patty Swanson answered.
That week in school, after the school staff had heard about Emerald's shenanigans, she was suspended for two weeks. On her first day of suspension, Emerald was with the police, worried about what they were going to do with her.
"So what shall we do as far as your daughter is concerned?" asked the chief.
"Let her free!" Riley said, wasting no time.
"Are you kidding, Riley?!" exclaimed Anya. "Don't you see the endangerment she caused for Violet and Patty?!"
"Dad! Please listen to Mum!" begged Jasmine. "Do the right thing!"
"Emerald's coming home, no arguing!" Riley said, putting his foot down.
The following day, Tommy talked about what had happened to the others.
"So Emerald trapped the three of you?" quizzed Charlie Brown.
"Yes!" grumbled Violet.
"It's like she wanted to ruin our dates!" Tommy grumbled.
"Because I got her expelled all those years ago!" grumbled Frieda. "At least Floyd and Polly helped us with the help from Polly's dogs. Dogs with naturally curly hair."
"Hold it. I got a text message." Tommy said as he picked up his mobile phone.
"Emerald free from jail"
"Oh, good grief!" groaned Tommy. "By the looks of it, despite what she'd done to these girls, Emerald's gotten off scot free again."
"Oh, good grief!" groaned Charlie Brown.
"Well, at least we won't have to deal with her anymore." said Frieda.
"Anyway, Schroeder." said Tommy. "How was your date with Mary?"
"She loved every bit of it." smiled Schroeder. "How I'd do anything for a blonde like her!"
"Charlie Brown's date was wonderful!" smiled Heather. "He took me to so many fancy places!"
"Linus did the same with me." said Janice.
"Well, Shermy, Pig-Pen and I are taking our gals out this Friday to make up for this mayhem." said Tommy.
That very Friday, Tommy, Shermy and Pig-Pen went to the Italian restaurant Tommy had planned to take Frieda, and they, along with their girls, were enjoying themselves.
"This makes up for the ruined valentine date we were supposed to go on." said Violet.
"Thank you, Guys." said Patty Swanson.
"Oh, don't thank us." said Tommy. "Thank Floyd and Polly. They were the ones who helped you."
"Tommy." Frieda said as she turned her attention to Tommy. "This has been the best Valentine date we've ever been on. I really love you."
And Frieda wrapped her arms around Tommy, and kissed him all over his face. Tommy sighed dreamily, blushing bright red. At least he and his friends didn't have to deal with Emerald for the rest of the fortnight.
