Kelpie's A/N: It has officially been six months since we posted an actual chapter. I sincerely apologize for this. Life is hard. Believe it or not, we have been writing this chapter for the past six months. It was torture. Writing it was incredibly boring and we only had a loose idea of what we were doing with it. I do acknowledge that it is short, but it's the best we did. And I do like it, I do. I like the final result. But getting here.. Getting here was incredibly painful. But here it is, at long last! Our short filler chapter that did turn out pretty well, eventually. Enjoy!
Chapter 10 – Items - [Peregrine POV]
Bronwyn was helping Fiona in the small garden behind Jacob's house when Emma called her name, holding up a letter.
She immediately abandoned Fiona and bounded up to her, wondering who in peculiardom was sending her a letter.
"It says it's from Sophie." Emma told Bronwyn when she got within earshot, shooting her a half curious, half aggravated look.
"Why would Sophie be sending me a letter?" Bronwyn muttered, trying to feign bewilderment to avoid suspicion.
"I don't know," Emma wondered, a frown pulling at her lips. "Tell me when you read it?" She asked, thinking Bronwyn wouldn't hide anything from her.
"Erm, sure." Bronwyn replied, hoping Emma would forget so she could avoid lying to one of her closest friends.
Emma smiled at Bronwyn before handing her the letter and heading back inside.
"Fiona," Bronwyn turned and called to the seedsprout. "I need to take a break and head inside for a minute."
Fiona gave Bronywn a smile and a nod, indicating that she understood.
Without another word Bronwyn went inside and headed toward the Portman's rarely used second living room where she had been staying along with Emma.
She sunk down on her end of the couch and quickly read through it. Even though it was written in English, the letter seemed like complete gibberish to the peculiar girl.
The first part of the letter had an update on how Enoch was doing, and the second part had detailed instructions on how to access Jacob's email and view the video she had sent to it.
After reading the letter multiple times, Bronwyn still had no clue what an email was or how Sophie had gotten access to Jacob's account.
After reading the letter through one last time, she set it aside and made the decision to go find Jacob for help.
Coincidentally, just as she stood up, Jacob walked in whistling a tune to himself. He walked across the room and opened the closet door where extra bedding was kept, seeming not to notice her.
He gathered his desired items from the closet before turning around and finally spotting Bronwyn.
Not fazed by her attention on him, Jacob asked her, "Watcha doing?"
"Hi, Mr. Jacob!" She answered cheerfully. "I was just coming to look for you! I got this letter from Miss Sophie, but I don't understand the instructions on how to open your computer mail. I was wondering if you could help me?" She asked him expectantly.
"Uh, sure. Can I see the letter?"
After a minute, he handed it back to Bronwyn. "Oh, you meant email," He muttered, not seeming to even have recognized what the report on Enoch was. Looking up at her, he spoke, "Let me go get my laptop."
He waited for her nod before getting up, already having forgotten the bedding he had entered the room for in the first place.
He walked out of the living room and made his way to his bedroom.
He found his laptop easily; it was on his dresser.
Grabbing the laptop, he sat on his bed and opened the lid. He let out a groan of frustration when the screen stayed dark.
He got back to his feet, leaving the laptop on his bed. He searched on top of his dresser and even the drawers for the charger, but he couldn't find it. It wasn't there.
Jacob spent the next ten minutes tearing apart his room in search of the desired item.
He found it, however, the second he opened the closet door. It was on the floor.
Sighing, he picked it up, folded his laptop, and made his way back to Bronwyn.
Jacob reentered the living room with both laptop and charger in hand. He silently plugged the cord into the nearest outlet and sat on the couch, waiting for Bronwyn to join him.
Once she did, he attempted to turn on the computer. Still dead. He groaned and taooed his fingers on the keyboard. "We have to wait for it to charge some," He muttered to Bronwyn, who was peering over his shoulder at the black screen.
She hummed her acknowledgement.
Jacob continued to tap his fingers on the keyboard while Bronwyn sat almost mesmerized by the movement.
One minute passed.
Then two.
Jacob tried the power button again. The screen remained dark. He groaned once again and hung his head. Brownwyn eyed the laptop intimidatingly.
After another three minutes, Bronwyn tried the power button this time. Miraculously, the screen turned on.
Jacob immediately opened his inbox and, seeing the unread email, clicked on it.
He stopped short when a video started playing of Enoch running around like a maniac in his boxers. The video was obviously from camera feed.
It took Jacob a minute to notice the other boy in the video was the elf, Tam, and that they were both in a place he didn't recognize.
"Wait a second," He gaped, dawning realization on his face. "Where is this? Where is Enoch?"
"Er, so about that," Bronwyn launched into the story of how and why Enoch, as well as Tam, were kidnapped, and her role in it.
Jacob didn't respond to her for a good while after she finished. He was mulling over everything she had said. He just couldn't wrap his head around it. How could he believe Bronwyn and the elves had pulled off such a feat as kidnapping Enoch without anyone noticing?
He especially couldn't believe that he hadn't noticed. What kind of friend was he to not notice when one of his friends went missing? And overnight, too? Jacob felt incredibly bad at this point.
Of course, he was unable to say this, however. All his brilliant brain could force him to stammer out was, "Enoch's gay?"
"Up until you, only our dearest Victor, Horace and I had known. He didn't speak of it much." Bronwyn shrugged.
"But, but I thought he liked Emma. That's what everyone else said?" His voice got pitchy.
"What nonsense are you spewing? Enoch never liked Emma like that. In fact, him and Horace were an item some years ago."
Jacob nodded his head frantically and hurried to change the subject. "So how come they are sending you the camera feed?"
"Miss Sophie promised she would so that I would know Enoch is safe. Since she did kidnap him."
"So he's okay, then?
"You watched the video with me, Mr. Jacob. You tell me."
"I mean, he looked okay. Distraught, maybe?"
Bronwyn laughed. "He looked alright to me. He and Mr. Tam seem to be getting along quite nicely. I dare say they could very well become an item." Bronwyn grinned at Jacob, happy for their friend.
Jacob hesitantly smiled back, starting to recover from his shock at last. "So you trust Enoch is safe and that Sophie is making sure he's taken care of?"
"Yes, of course. I wouldn't have let Miss Sophie take him otherwise."
Jacob answered slowly. "Then I guess I have no reason to stop you."
MC's A/N: Hello after like... 6 months(?), anyways nice to see you again! Sorry about being on hiatus for so long. School is hard, and Kelpie was very busy for the first semester. Hopefully we start writing more. We both are taking classes above our grade level so yeah that's fun :p. Not to mention this chapter was just very boring to write so we had no motivation to do it T-T. But we're here now. Hope you enjoyed :3
