what if I told you none of it was accidental

"Well, that was unexpected." Tonks was looking at the dress sitting on her bed. Why her mother would think she would wear something so frilly was beyond her comprehension.

Yes, it was her parents' anniversary party, but it didn't mean that Tonks would wear that.

She looked around her room, trying to find something she could wear besides that horrendous thing on her bed, but it seemed like her mum already knew she would try something like that.

Cursing under her breath, Tonks looked at the dress. It wasn't ugly per se, but it was something she would wear when she was three, not thirteen!

"C'mon, Mum, you should know better by now," Tonks murmured under her breath. She racked her brain, trying to think what she could do about it. She tried to remember what Uncle Sirius taught her, and it was then she smiled: she knew what she would do!

Grabbing her wand—even if her mother told her, very firmly, that she shouldn't use it while at home—Tonks murmured the incantation under her breath, trying to remember the words before adding the wand movement.

"Alarte Ascendare," Tonks murmured, smiling at how high the dress went, and got stuck in the ceiling. "Now Mum won't be able to force me to wear it."

Smiling at how cleverly she had outwitted her mother, Tonks whistled and walked towards her parents' bedroom, delighted with her quick thinking.

"You think you're so smart, don't you, Nymphadora?" Andromeda said, looking at her with a smile on her face.

"Mum, how many times I have to say, don't call me Nymphadora!" Tonks said, feeling her hair changing colour.

"Alright, Dora, but this doesn't answer my question, does it?" Andromeda was looking at her, and Tonks knew her mother had discovered what she had done to the dress. "No answers?"

Tonks knew she was in hot water when her mother was looking at her like that.

"I won't even say anything about what you had done with the dress, but what about the part where you used your wand when I said you weren't supposed to do it?"

"But Mum, aren't you proud of me for using the spell Uncle Sirius taught me?" Tonks said, smiling wider at her mother, who just stared at her.

"Of course, Sirius would be involved," Andromeda muttered under her breath. "Stop trying to change the subject. You are still going to wear that dress!"

"But I used the 'Alarte Ascendare' right! How are you going to make me wear it?" Tonks asked, putting her hands on her waist.

"Did you think I wouldn't know the counter-spell, smarty pants?" Andromeda replied, in the same tone.

"Well, that was unexpected," Tonks said, looking at her mother with a frown. "I'll have to use that dress?"

"Yes, unless you want me to use 'Alarte Ascendare' on you!" Andromeda said, before walking out of the room.
