Chapter 28: The Final Battle Part One
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha
Inuyasha, Miroku and Koga sat around a campfire that they had made after making sure that Kagome and Kohaku would be as comfortable as possible, soon after that, Sango and Shippo fell asleep.
"Do you have any plans on how we're going to take Naraku down?" Miroku asked as he looked at Inuyasha.
"Keh." Inuyasha scoffed. "Naraku is just a scared little boy who has to send others to do his dirty work."
"Hmm, I'm not so sure." Miroku mumbled before looking toward Koga. "What can you tell us about him?"
"Dude's ruthless, he won't stop and will do anything in his power to get what he wants, and in this case - it's you all dead." Koga answered as he looked into the fire. "Everyone that's working for him right now has been lied to by him, he reels us in by giving us what we want and in return he takes something that means the most to us away."
"What do you mean?" Miroku asked.
Koga sighed. "Well, I only knew a few of them before they were working for Naraku, like Kagura and Kanna - Kagura wanted desperately to be able to use the wind as a way to keep both her and her sister safe, there were some bad people after them because they witness something that they shouldn't have." He said with another sigh. "She loved everything about her freedom and saw herself almost like the wind and wanted to be able to use it whenever she needed too. She heard word on the streets that there was a powerful demon that was able to grant wishes to anyone that needed help, she went about looking for him with her sister, Kanna, by her side. Kanna was eavesdropping when her sister was told about the powerful demon and wanted the ability to see the future, so she could see in advance as to where the people that was after them were so they could act accordingly, so she tagged along with her sister. They made it to where his was supposed to be and told him what they wished for. He agreed and they signed a contract, however, like me - they did not read the fine print, he took Kagura's freedom away from her, as well as Kanna's vibrate colorful self - turning her into someone that's a plain as a sheet of paper. By the time I saw them, it was too late, they were already in the depths of Naraku's web."
"What did he take from you?" Inuyasha asked.
"My entire tribe, including my mate." Koga answered.
"If you had a mate, why were you always so extra nice towards Kagome!?" Inuyasha growled standing up.
"She's a wolf." Koga said with a shrug not at all effected with Inuyasha's outburst. "Even though she's a half breed, she's still one of my kin." He said with a sigh. "Everyone just assumed that I had some sort of crush on her but no, wolves stick together. Especially since she's the last of her breed, it's her responsibility that her blood line to go on - even though her offsprings won't be fully her breed, it'll still be her breed living on in one way or the other." He said with a sigh. "What it all comes down to, I was just making sure that she was alright and would live on."
Inuyasha sighed and sat down, though he hated to admit it but that made a lot of since. He grumbled to himself as he crossed his arms and turned his head to look off to the side. If he was being honest, he wanted to still be mad at Koga even though there wasn't a reason anymore, it was just easier that way. He got burnt a lot by so many people because of his heritage that he was afraid to make any kind of new friendship. But, oh not Kagome, she was always talking to people with a smile on her face while her eyes sparkled about whatever was being discussed at the time, she was always so vibrant with her voice and the way she moved her hands with what she was saying - he wished he could be like her, talking didn't come as natural to him as it did to her.
"Do you know where your family is now?" Miroku asked.
"No, I don't have any idea as to where they could be." Koga said with a sigh as he ran his fingers through his hair. "It's probably a lost cost now, hard telling what Naraku's done to them since I've joined you."
"You can't think like that." Inuyasha said with a shake of his head.
"Yeah," Miroku chipped in, "Sango watched her entire village burn to the ground thinking that everyone had died, years later and we run into her little brother, though under a spell at the time, he was alive and well - just needed to get worked on by Kagome and he's good to live without the jewel shard. So, don't lose hope, okay?"
Koga didn't answer, he just stared in to flames of the fire as if they held the answer to his question if his mate and comrades were alive and well.
They were about to put the fire out and joined the others in slumber for the night but a sound off in the distance made them stop and get ready for a possible battle.
"Put down your weapons!" Kagura said as she stepped out of the bushes. "I didn't come here for a fight; I came here for help and to help you in return."
"Kagura, what do you want!?" Inuyasha growled still holding his sword up ready for battle.
"I just told you, you mongrel, I need your help in defeating Naraku."
"Inuyasha," Koga whispered, "trust her, her and her sister are good people, even though they don't seem like it - it's because of Naraku."
Inuyasha sighed as he gestured towards the already put out campfire, he threw more fire logs on it and instructed Miroku to light the fire. It was going to be a long night, but since Kagura and Kanna wanted to join them, they needed to rethink their strategy and how they were going to take Naraku down.
Hope you all enjoyed that chapter! Only one more chapter to go! See you soon, bye!
