Three months passed and Law had put his plan into action, using his Ope-Ope Devil Fruit powers to steal the hearts of a hundred pirates and then he personally delivered them to the Marine Headquarters.
Although Rina was against needless violence, she didn't mind this. He had targeted the worst of the worst while stealing these hearts. Pirates who raped, pirates who did disgusting things to children, who stole from expecting parents, or new parents, those were the ones who lost their hearts. As he took them, Law warned each pirate that if he heard so much as a rumor about them continuing to do as they had been, he'd pierce their heart himself. Although with them being unconscious, that was highly unlikely to occur.
She hoped it caused enough fear for these pirates to think twice before willfully harming another person who couldn't fight them off. This also caused him to gain the offer to become a warlord of the sea, and he readily accepted it.
Rina knew he was working some kind of angle here, most likely he was trying to gain favour with the Marines so they'd divulge some information they were hunting for or grant him access to it. Either way, she knew there were likely two motivators behind Law's actions and neither was more significant than the other although one was longer held. The oldest motivator he had was to avenge the man who had saved his life, Corazon, otherwise known as Donquixote Rosinante. He had been the younger brother of Warlord Doflamingo, and had unfortunately died at Doflamingo's hand.
The second motivator was their daughter, the fact that she had been able to sense the Will of D inside Cora since her birth, the same as she had sensed it in Law, Ace and Luffy, frightened both of them. As far as either of them knew Celestial Dragons were not able to sense the Will of D, but they certainly feared it.
For her part she was gathering any piece of intelligence to report back to her Squad Captain and Central 46, so far she had found a few things that were backing her suspicion more and more, but she didn't share these details with Law. It was official Shinigami business, and thus she couldn't actually tell him anything until they had more of the complete picture sorted out. This was how they'd always worked together, and Law respected that she didn't want to provide him with partial or false information.
That had lead her to exploring what at the surface seemed a ordinary field, but she soon located a hidden mechanism that caused the ground to open up to a set of stairs. She regarded the stairs while musing to herself, 'oh yeah. Nothing suspicious about this at all, every single place in every world has a hidden staircase. Geez!'
She pressed a large pearl at the center of her barrette at the back of her head and used it to draw a smiley face on a stone near where the mechanism was located. She had told Law the exact coordinates she'd be investigating. If something happened to delay her rendezvous with him, he'd know to look for that symbol.
She stepped on the top of the stone stair and then the second, making her way down slowly. The stale scent of dust hit her nostrils, causing her to bring a hand up to her nose in an attempt to shield her nasal passages from the offender. As she reached the last step the hidden door at the top closed above her head, confirming one suspicion she had about the place. That wasn't a huge inconvenience though, she could just teleport herself out to the Polar Tang after she was done exploring.
She hesitated momentarily but if she was going to complete what she came here for, she had to go on. Turning the corner, Rina held her open palm up at waist height, a small ball of red light floating above it. She still wore the choker necklace that Law had given her but these days she wore a red v-neck shirt, a pair of jeans and black boots with a very slight heel to them.
She used the modified shakkaho kido to illuminate the nearby area at first nothing seemed too out of the ordinary. It looked to be a hidden lab of sorts. She noticed Bunsen burners, beakers, measuring scales. She didn't touch anything but took a small object from her jeans pocket and snapped a few pictures, knowing she could develop them back home.
Continuing further in she located a bookshelf along a stone wall, when examining it she noticed a few inconsistencies with the wall's structure. She ran her hand along the wall, displacing one of the bricks, upon doing so the room began to rumble as the wall slid off to the side. She gasped upon seeing the contents of the hidden room. More beakers, more Bunsen burners, more scales, but what concerned her was the large tubular containers that were filled with fluid and what appeared to be a humanoid male inside that container.
He was a brunet, appearing to be in his twenties. Rina's heart began racing. She'd swear that her ribcage would be tattooed by the organ as it thudded at the rapid pace of a frightened rabbit running from a predatory threat.
She observed the man closely, taking in his facial features she realized what this most likely was. A contingency plan—but the last time he would've been able to journey here would've been roughly twenty-two or twenty-three years ago. There was no mistaking it the person being grown in that tube was none other than the genocidal maniac who had created the Hogyoku, tried to overthrow the spirit King, and was responsible for her father's exile. It was Sosuke Aizen, or at least it was a clone of him, there were others who appeared to be female with similar features.
Without evaluating the environment Rina took a step closer to the chamber and quickly became aware when part of the floor depressed under her weight. The hiss of gas filing into the room began to invade her ears as a thick cloud of smoke seemed to rise within the room. She brought her face down to her shirt, pulling the top of it up over her nose in effort to shield herself from the intruding vapors. One chance, just one thing she could do to try to lessen the effects on her.
She focused her reiatsu and began to channel Sode no Shirayuki's abilities, allowing her core temperature to drop until she was essentially hypothermic, at a level that humans couldn't endure. She retreated the same way she had entered. She knew she could only maintain this for a short time, and while doing so she had to try to outrun the gas that was filling this area. If she did this while surrounded by the gas she'd be risking human lives. While she ran, she began to surround herself with white ribbon, and called out the only location that she could think of, "outside!"
There was a loud pop, and she appeared outside of the chamber again, allowing her core temperature to rise but as this occurred she became woozy. Her vision blurred, then darkened. She had a vague sense of falling. 'Law, please be careful,' was her last thought before losing all awareness.
