It's been hours since I last spoke to Elijah. He wants to make sure nobody finds out about me being an original vampire. Honestly, times like these I'm glad some people don't know who I am because my family has made a lot of enemies over the years. Don't get me wrong, I've made my fair share too. However, the first vampires to ever exist make a bigger impression than a witch who most people don't know is immortal.
Not talking to Elijah also has its own bad perks as well.
I have been in a coffin for a hundred years and out of the centuries we have spent together, he chooses now to ice me out? Elijah keeps telling my how "Sister, this century is more enlightened, it has better people and allows more freedom" and blah blah blah. First of all, I really do not see much of a difference between the 1910's and the 2010's, besides the advance technology. People are still rude and obnoxious, there might be "freedom" but not equality. Do not even get me started on these clothes. I can not even walk a few blocks without someone trying to get my number or whistle at me.
Now besides the ignorant humans, I have no house, no friends, no family, no good clothes, nothing! I even had that car I stole taken away. I went to go buy clothes and while I was trying some outfits on, I hear the police. Of course, I obviously knew why they were here, but I thought that knockout spell would at least work for another 24 hours. Guess I really am rusty.
Regardless, having a social life and living in a lavish home wasn't my goal. It was protecting this human from my psychotic older brother.
So I went back to that grill place and tried to get a job. Though, I forget that you have to actually interview for the job. When you have siblings that can compel anyone, you didn't have to apply or get an interview. Another thing I will have to adjust to. Ugh.
I got the position too, and they have me starting today. So you can consider it a job, but I don't call anything less than my standards a job. And this place is at the very bottom.
Just my personal opinion.
"Kalle! I need you to get table 7!" I hear my big, annoying boss say.
"But I'm working at the bar." I say as I serve a customer his drink.
He looks at me with a stern face. "Does this look like someone who cares? Get table 7."
I rolled my eyes at him. I'm sorry, Elijah. What were you saying again about how it is better now? People have changed my ass.
The only reason I went to that table was because I saw a familiar face. The boy who was with the doppelgänger was hanging out with the blonde chick.
I walked up to the table. "Hello. My name is Kalle and I will be your server for this evening. What can I get for you?" I said with a smile on my face.
Stefan looked at me surprised. "It's you." He said in a whisper tone.
"There is only one, I can promise you." With a smug look, I say.
"What are you doing here?" Stefan said, sounding a little angry, and the blonde girl looked between us, confused.
"Uh working?" I say while tapping my notepad.
The blonde girl interrupted, "Who is Stefan's friend?" She asked curiously.
"She isn't my friend." Stefan said a little angrily.
"Well, that's harsh, Stefan. I thought we hit it off." I said, looking at Stefan with a sad expression. "Well, then, care to introduce me to your bubbly friend?"
"Caroline." The girl states.
"Caroline, that's a pretty name. Well, Caroline, what would you like?" I ask.
"Hmmmm. Can I get a burger with fries and a salad on the side?"
"Of course." I wrote it down on my notepad. "And what can I get you, Mr Grumpy Pants?" I say facing Stefan again.
"I'm good." He says with a fake smile.
"Okay. Then I'll be back with your order." I say, pointing at Caroline. "Maybe while I'm gone, you should buy this guy a drink because he's uptight."
"Oh, trust me with everything he has going on, there aren't enough drinks in the world to lighten his mood." Caroline says casually, but then looks at Stefan's angry face and mouths "Sorry".
"Look can you just get her order please? Thank you."
"Sure, coming right up." I then leave the table and place my order.
Hmm. "Everything he has going on". So either this girl is human and knows about Stefan, or she is a vampire too. I'm gonna assume the latter since he doesn't seem to be the sharing-his-feelings type.
I lean against the bar while thinking. Maybe I can get into their group with the blonde chick. I mean the doppelgänger could also work, but I feel like her little boyfriend would persuade her decision. Damon could work, but considering his joking nature, he probably trusts strangers just as much as Stefan.
"Table 7 order is done!" I hear the cook say in the back. I grab the food and head back to the table.
"Here is your order." I say as I place the food down.
"Mmm thank you so much! You have no idea how hungry I am right I could literally eat a whole human." She looks at me with widen eyes. "Which I would never do btw."
"It's fine, Caroline. She's a witch." Stefan crosses his arms.
"Oh, you are?" Caroline said with a mouth full of food. "Did you sense my vampirism when you saw me?"
"That's not how it works." I say, laughing. "But I did figure it out."
"Oh well, that's less cool." She continues to eat.
"Yeah, I agree. We witches should be able to know when any supernatural creature enters a room."
"Yes, you would be so much more powerful! Well, I guess that would suck for vampires."
"It totally would." I say, shaking my head in agreement, even though I'm already more powerful than most vampires.
"Okay. Well, we have our food, so you can leave now." Stefan says rudely.
"Well I know, but I was hoping you guys could, you know, show me around town a little bit. I'm new and don't really know anybody, and the fact that I met another supernatural creature on my first couple of days here, I think it's meant to be." I say while shrugging my shoulders with my arms crossed.
"Oh yeah sure!" Caroline says happily.
"Actually, we can't." Stefan says with a stern face.
"We can't?" Caroline looks at him confused.
"No, we can't. At the moment we're very busy."
"No, we aren't." Caroline states.
"Weren't you going to tell me something about Tyler?" Stefan asked.
"Tyler?" Caroline looks confused and then realizes something. "Oh, yeah! Tyler! We could show her around town after we talk."
Both me and Stefan are looking at her with a confused face. It sounds like she is hiding something.
"No, we still can't. I have to talk to you about something." Stefan says skeptically and then turns to me. "Sorry, but can you please leave us alone?"
"Kalle, we can arrange to show you around later or-" Caroline starts to say but I cut her off.
"It's fine, Caroline. You can continue your conversation. I don't want to be that annoying girl who barges in without an invitation. But I will see you around." I say as I leave the table.
I head to the back and take off my apron. They have to be talking about the doppelgänger or otherwise what I'm about to do is gonna be pretty creepy.
I head to the bathroom and lock the door. I look at the mirror. "Let's hope I have not lost my touch." I take a deep breath.
"Invisique" I watch as I disappear from the mirror. "Hm. Well let's see how long this last."
I open the door and make sure nobody is looking at the bathroom door open by itself. After I see nobody is, I head back to their table and stand right in front of it.
"Ok, now I'm leaving." Stefan says as he gets up.
"Wait a minute..." Caroline says, trying to keep Stefan from leaving.
"No no no Caroline you have two seconds to come clean." Stefan says aggravated.
"What do you mean?" Caroline tries to act innocent, saying.
Caroline, I don't know you all that well, but it's game over. Give in already; I don't have all day.
"I would believe the more innocent act better if I didn't know how good you were at providing a distraction on demand. Where is Elena?" Stefan says.
So, it does have something to do with the doppelgänger.
Caroline took a deep breath. "I can't tell you."
"You can't tell me? Are you kidding me?" Stefan says shocked.
"I'm sorry but I...I can't tell you." Caroline states.
"Caroline! Elena was kidnapped, and she could have been killed. You're seriously not going to tell me where she is?" Stefan says, trying to make a point.
Hey, first of all, Mr. Know-it-all. My brother wasn't going to kill the doppelganger. He was pressuring her safety, knowing that you and your brother couldn't protect her. And secondly, she wouldn't have been kidnapped if you had done a better job. Well, at least now I'm starting to realize why Elijah wants me to look after them.
"She's not in any danger. I would not let her put herself in danger." Caroline says.
"Put herself in danger where wouldn't..." Stefan trails off and looks down. "She's with Damon isn't she?" He says with a sad look.
Hm? Is there something going on between the brothers and this girl? I mean it would make sense why both of these guys would risk their lives to go against an original. Man, I'm getting some serious deja vu.
"Ew! No." Caroline immediately shuts it down.
"Then. Then where is she?" Stefan asks once more. "Listen, if you're my friend, like you have been pretending to be, all day, then you will tell me where she is."
Boo hoo your maybe friend lied to you. You know what Caroline, I'm on your side. Protect your friend. Actually, I still wanna know what this girl is getting into...Okay. Tell him where she is then ice him out.
"Stefan, I am your friend. But I'm also Elena's friend and I'm sorry, but I'm not going to tell you where she is." Caroline states while shaking her head.
Stefan scoffs, then gets up. He starts to head for the door.
No, I need his blood. I see a person walking near him and pushing that human into him. While they're both on the ground, I find a cup to put his blood in and scrape his arm without him or anyone noticing a floating cup. I put the cup on a seat near the door and head back to the bathroom in a hurry. After I undo the spell, I leave the bathroom and grab the cup. I search up the nearest library, which is a few blocks away.
I started to leave when I heard my boss yell, "Hey! Your shift isn't over yet, so get your pretty ass back to the bar!" I rolled my eyes again. Did I mention that I hate working? Especially working for men like this?
Scratch that. Working for men.
I turn around and say "Alright I'm coming." And slowly walk back. I flicked my finger at the kitchen stove start a small fire. "Omg! Is that a fire!?" I say pretending to act scared.
The coworkers and and boss all turn around and look at the fire. It causes a panic as people start to run out of the grill. "Sorry about your oven! But since everyone is gone I guess I'll see you tomorrow, yeah?"
My boss looks at me with anger and stresses out about all the customers leaving.
"I'll take that as a yes." Then I leave the grill.
