On route to Port island,

It's nearing midnight, a train was traveling to a certain station. I could feel everyone shake the train made as it was on route to its destination. My eyes refused to stay open anymore. I yawned loudly.

"How much longer am I gonna be riding on trains," I questioned, tired and exhausted.

How long has it been since I left home? hours? No, maybe it was longer than that. A day perhaps? Oh, right, before I should introduce myself: I'm Kazuki Kei, age: 16, a second-year high school student, Job: Unemployed. I'm an average, run-of-the-mill teenage boy. Originally, I went to school at St. Hermelin high, which is located in the city of Mikage-cho. Last January, I was told that I would be transferred to a different school and city. A city called "Port Island". It was quite a shock when I learned about my transfer, I didn't even have time to say what, where, and why? I have to wonder though: why was I getting transferred to this type of place. The school that I would be transferring to is named Gekkoukan high: a private school - Actually, let me emphasize that, PRIVATE...SCHOOL. It's nuts, I'm not an academic scholar, nor am I an athlete. The fact I was able to get in was insane. All I was told was that I was able to be admitted due to having a "potential within myself" whatever that means.

"Was HE able to get me into that type of school?"

The He I'm mentioning is my cousin: Toudou Naoya. He used to get called a "positively mysterious character". But really, he's not like that (at least around me). He's a kind, strong-willed, hardheaded, straightforward, sometimes forgetful, yet stern parental figure. Thinking about him now has me worried. What if he forgets to clean his room, or clean the dishes? Hell, what if he tries to make fried rice!?

"Now arriving at Tatsumi Port Island. Please take care to board before our departure."

"Finally!"

I got off the train and onto the platform, for a brief moment I imagined myself taking off a pair of shades to reveal what's behind the glasses, but unfortunately, I forget my sunglasses. As I exited the station, I looked at the time on my phone.

"11:59 P.M. Huh, well, I know one thing - I'm late!" The RA is probably strict on new students being late. I mean, I do have the excuse of being a day away from this place. Then again, they probably don't care about that stuff.

"Shit, I gotta book it then!"

I started to run like a bat out of hell. My physique is not bad, if I run now I can probably make it under an hour, or so. I had time to look at the guide I was given to navigate from the station to the dorm I would be living in.

"Here we go - full throttle!" As I ran along the empty, dead silent streets of the city, I lost my footing.

"Whoa!" I fell on my chin, bruising it by just a bit.

"Oww that hurts, how did that happen?" I ask myself as I was patting myself down. Something wet was on my chest. I took a look at my chest. A crimson-red liquid soaked my clothes.

"Blood?"

The word clicked in my mind.

"AHHHHH!"

I started searching my body to see if I was bleeding anywhere. To my relief, I didn't have any wounds on my chest.

"Where the hell did it come from, then?" I felt something drop on my forehead.

"Huh, what the?"

I swiped off whatever was on my forehead. A gasp escaped my mouth.

The thing that dropped on my head was blood! Peering up would prove that blood was dripping from an object that heavily resembled a coffin. My mind went blank, but my body couldn't help but let out a yell of terror.

"AAAAAHHHHH!?"

The fear had made my body stumble on my feet, having me run away from the station, running through the blood-soaked streets.

Iwatodai dormitory - ?

My legs were done running as they were thumping heavily. I seem to have arrived at the dormitory after god knows how long I ran. Approaching the door to the dorm, I slowly open the door. I heard someone as I cracked open the door.

"Oh crap, it must be the RA. Maybe I should wait outside, just to be safe."

No, I don't see that working out well in the end.

"I'll just peak in from the entrance to see who's there..."

Lo and behold, I only see one person? Huh, that's weird, I thought I heard another person?

"Who's there."

"Holy shit!" I quietly shouted as I thought they noticed me. I poke my head in the second time. There was a girl with auburn hair standing across from someone else. Wow, she's pretty cute.

I analyzed the situation, it looks like she has something in her hand. It appears to be...

"...A GUN!"

What the hell is going on!? Why is this day so damn weird; first the blood all over the street, and now this! Nonetheless, it seems like that guy is in danger. I wonder what he did? Could this be one of those big High school lovers quarrels thing? No, that's stupid. It seems like she was slowly getting ready to use that weapon in her hands. Something needs to be done, and soon.

"I guess I have no choice, I have to step in and help!"

So with that being said, I did what I thought was appropriate. I gathered up all my energy, my feet hand pushed open the door.

"Please don't shoot!"

"Huh?"

I must have been cursed because right when I made my grand entrance I tripped on myself and fell flat on the floor. I was trying to get up but my head really did hit the floor hard.

"Takeba, wait!"

A new arrival announced herself with her commanding, powerful, yet confused. She must've been confused because I was curling my head. This was not the idea I had when I was going to introduce myself. Despite the setback, I attempted to get up with whatever sense of dignity I had left. I saw who was getting the gun pointed at them. He had Navy-blue hair, grey eyes that matched a pair of earphones hanging around his neck.

"Listen, whatever happened between you and your boyfriend is both of your business, but I'm sure the both of you can just talk it out."

Saying that, the girl with the gun's cheeks flush pink.

"Wha- No, I don't even know who he is!" she replied in a angry, embarrassed, and loud way.

"Sorry!"

She's scary!

After that, the lights came on and everything was quiet, regardless of my sudden outburst to break the tension in the room.

"...Am I late," I stupidly asked.

The red-haired girl descends down the stairs. Her arms crossed in front of her chest as she walked over to us. The way she moved along says royalty. Well, in that case, I should introduce myself in a polite manner.

"Hi, I'm Kei Kazuki, wait no that's not proper, I'm Kazuki Kei. It's nice to meet you!"

"I didn't expect you two to arrive so late," the red-haired spoke.

"Really? Well, in that case, I'm very sorry." the blunett apologizes. I don't doubt he didn't mean it, though, there was something off with it.

"I'm Kirijo Mitsuru, I'm one of the students who live in this dorm."

"I'm Yuki Makoto, it's very nice to meet you." "

"Is it okay for them to stay here?" the girl with the gun asked the red-hair.

She seemed uncomfortable with the idea of us being here.

"I guess we'll see."

See what?

"This is Takeba Yukari, she's a second-year, just like you two."

Takeba Yukari... Huh, well, how about this

"Yuka-chan!" I exclaim as I thought up in my head.

Kind of didn't mean to say that aloud. Well, I mean it doesn't sound like a bad nickname, so there should be no problem. I always try to nickname someone in a good way, but if she doesn't like it I could change it to something else.

"Um, hello? I'm supposed to show you to your room now."

I snapped out of my own train of thought after Yuka-chan spoke up to me. Needless to say, I was blushing...a lot.

"What, umm, s-sure." I blushed, even more, when I made eye contact. Hopefully, nobody noticed...

...

We ascended the stairs to the second floor. The second floor was where the boys lived and the third floor was where the girl stayed in. In the end of our short trip, Yuka-chan guided us to the rooms we'll be living in for the next while.

"Here are your keys."

She gives me the keys to the room.

"Thanks."

"No problem, but can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

"Did you see anything strange on your way here?"

Strange? The coffins, blood, the dirty green hue the world took on was certainly beyond strange. However, who would believe that? If anything, it would sound like Halloween came early.

"Nah, it was normal."

"I see."

She backed away from me with her hands behind her.

"I hope we can get along, Kazuki-kun."

"Yeah, I hope so too."

I gave her a nice, wide, friendly smile and a wave goodbye as I entered my room. Closing the door behind me I sighed in relief. Taking a look around my room, I saw all the stuff that I had transported here. I didn't care about unpacking right now, all I cared about is sleeping off this weird day. Remembering the events leading up to this was just so strange.

"I slipped on blood for crying out loud! It might never come off!"

After changing out of my clothes and into something more comfy, I jumped onto my bed. The mattress was no different from the one I used back home. Before I knew it, all my worries slowly start to go away, as well as the stress. I basked in the softness of the great and all mighty bed. Thinking about it now, I guess now this is my room away from my room. No, that sounded weird. Eh screw it, I'll be living here for a while until I'm done with high school. I make this out to be bad but yet...

"This could be awesome!"

I was thinking about the possibilities of being a new student in a new city where nobody knows me. This can be more than awesome!

"Heh, goodbye, Mikage-Cho. Hello Port Island..."

Suddenly, my phone began to go off. I checked to see who it was.

"Hello?"

"Kei, did you make it there safely?"

The voice on the other end was Naoya.

"Yeah, I was able to get here safely, but I was pretty late."

"Did you find the trains as we practiced?"

"Yes, but there was a delay for some reason, so it had me panicking because I didn't know where to go and then I-"

"Calm down Kei, you did great on your own."

"T-thank you." I almost had several heart attacks while getting here. It was the first time I traveled on my own to a far off place.

"But hey, are you sure this good for me? I mean, I'm not private school material, and-"

"It's okay, as long as you don't screw up you'll be fine. So don't worry about it."

I trusted Naoya's judgment on these types of things, so I'll roll along with it. But "as long as I don't screw it up"? Way to lay it on thick.

"Well, it's pretty late, so you should get some rest. Tomorrow you'll need the mental strength."

"Maybe, you should know the first day is easiest."

"Maybe, but it's a privet school so you might be in for a surprise. So get some sleep."

"Okay, I will..."

"And Kei."

"Yeah?"

Naoya pauses for a moment.

"I hope you're able to make some friends while you're there."

"I'll try. See ya."

"See ya."

I hung up, I put my phone to my chest. It'll be a while until I see Naoya again, and that made me kind of sad, homesick even...

"He'll be lonely without me," I jokingly told myself. "Because I know I will be..."

Naoya is like my best friend, the guy I can count on, but now, I'm miles away from him. This is a real issue.

"Well Naoya, guess I'll just have to roll on with it, or something in those lines."

He put trust in me to make the best of this opportunity, so I won't waste it!

"It's okay Kei, you got this, you got this!"

I throw the blanket over my body and close my eyes, yelling encouraging words in my head. Tomorrow will be the first day to a good, new start, so I better be prepared... I seriously hope doesn't try to cook fried rice.
