A new update so soon?! Well, yes! I was already planning to upload this chapter this week, but the amount of support I saw when I woke up was insane that I edited Chapter 2 right away! Thank you to all of those who gave this fic a chance and for reviewing it! Those are highly appreciated. I won't be putting my responses for all reviews in this chapter, that will be the next one but I will highlight two. First one: EnkiduKingu! Thank you for the plot ideas! Funnily enough, you have gotten one that will happen in this fic while a few of those ideas were similar to the one I have incorporated into the fic. I won't be saying what those are though~
Second: Reyes63! The fic is Majin-san and Emiya-Senpai by RetributionSin. It was the fic that gave me the inspiration to write about these two in this fluff/comedy fic. The early chapters will be shorter but they'll probably get slightly longer in the future. For now, I hope you enjoy Chapter 2!
The silver-haired bowman stared at his fellow Guardian with an incredulous look, his jaw dropping upon hearing the ridiculous order. Relax and enjoy their vacation? Was it some kind of code for something he wasn't aware of? His memories of activities prior to waking up were pretty blurry.
The two Counter Guardians stared at her each other, no words left to cut the silence that fell them.
...
One minute.
...
Two minutes.
...
It was reaching the three-minute mark!
The faint sound of crickets chirping was the only thing that filled the quiet living room.
Swallowing an uncomfortable lump in his throat, Archer finally decided to break the awkward silence.
"You're joking, right? Is 'vacation' code for, I don't know, interfere in a war set in a tropical island that's housing a nuclear powerplant that could wipe it off the map if it was set off?"
"You asked the same thing earlier, Senpai." She gave her senior a half-lidded gaze.
"I did?! Why the hell can't I remember anything?" EMIYA pinched the bridge of his nose as he tried his damnedest to recall what happened before he went unconscious. Fragmented memories slowly resurfaced from the sea of his mind. "I remember... the two of us being called to Alaya after I completed my most recent mission."
"Ah, so you remember a little of our briefing then?" Okita expressed her surprise. Though, it wasn't too obvious due to her stoic visage. "Do you remember anything else?"
EMIYA regrettably shook his head. "No, just up to that. Agh, maybe... Something about having a joint mission?
The woman nodded her head but sighed. "I suppose I should simply tell you what exactly happened before you took your nap."
The silver-haired bowman adopted an uncharacteristically sheepish look as he rubbed the back of his head. "Yeah, please do."
"Very well..."
"Is 'vacation' code for, I don't know, interfere in a war set in a tropical island that's housing a nuclear powerplant that could wipe it off the map if it was set off?"
"I'm honestly impressed you were able to come to that conclusion that is kind of associated with the theme of your joint mission."
"So, am I right?"
"No, you are horribly wrong."
"..." EMIYA just stared at the empty, amber sky with his jaw open.
"Then... is it a type of recon mission that has us acting as if we're on vacation?" Okita guessed with a confused tilt of her head. "That's not what we usually do..."
"You're right; it isn't. But you are also wrong for thinking I'll be sending you two on such a mission that strays away from our purpose, Okita." Alaya said in concealed amusement. "I will repeat myself one last time before I send you two off. Listen carefully, all right? Your mission is to take it easy and relax while you two are on vacation. Your accommodations have already been prepared along with all the necessities you two will likely need."
EMIYA continued to stare at the sky with a baffled stare, with his right eye occasionally twitching. Meanwhile... Okita just hummed and digested the info once more.
"The duration of your vacation will be indefinite until further notice. If something happens, I will contact you two if I require your services, but you won't be able to contact me if you have something to say. Okay, is all of that clear?"
The Alter nodded while the faker had just recovered from his disbelief.
"W-Wait! This is just some stupid joke, right—"
"Nope!"
Alaya cut Archer off as light enveloped the two Counter Guardians. Archer screamed his lungs out. Not because of the sudden feeling of falling from the sky but because of the denial he received from Alaya that their mission wasn't some sick joke. The silver-haired swordswoman simply hummed as she felt the rapid winds brush her cheeks. Okita took note of the city they were approaching, the woman assuming they were sent into a modern era.
"Senpai, get ready to land!"
EMIYA managed to recover a semblance of his composure to stop himself from screaming and prepare to land. "Gah...!"
The two Guardians landed on one of the arches of a bridge before they jumped off and got down to the ground.
"I don't mind being sent to another world through that method, but I'd prefer if Alaya would send us somewhere where no human would pass by when we land." Okita deadpanned, her normally stoic face gaining a hint of annoyance. They were lucky no one was around when they arrived. "EMIYA-senpai?"
She turned to her senior to see his mouth agape and eyes expressing shock. Okita sweatdropped.
"Vacation, she said. Relax, she said. Then why did she send us here of all places..." He muttered under his breath.
"Senpai," She nudged his shoulder lightly before noticing a piece of paper sticking out of his shroud. "Hmm?"
Seeing his senior being unresponsive due to... whatever he was feeling right now, Okita took it herself and muttered a quick apology as she looked at the contents of the paper.
"It seems like the address of where we'll be staying is on this paper." She informed Archer as she pocketed the paper. Okita gave herself a glance. "Should we change out of our combat gear?"
"Uh, sure." He responded dumbly, subconsciously switching from his shroud and armor to a more casual set of clothes.
Okita followed suit and changed into clothes more fitting for their current mission. She rarely wore something like this, but she found herself quickly getting comfortable with her new outfit. At least they won't attract any attention, she thought.
The Alter looked back at EMIYA, only for her to sigh when she saw that he still hadn't recovered from his shock and disbelief.
"Bad Senpai..." said Okita as she held his hand. The female Counter Guardian soon dragged her dazed companion to the address of their temporary housing, unaware of the stares and catcalls she was receiving on their way there and the death glares directed at EMIYA.
"And then you lost consciousness the moment we arrived at this house." Okita finished her little retelling of what happened. "I assumed everything was too much for you to take in and passed out from shock."
"You're... not pulling my leg?"
It was subtle, but her lips twisted into a frown— er, was he seeing things, or was she pouting at him?
"You still don't believe me? I wouldn't joke around about something like that, Senpai..."
EMIYA ruffled the back of his silver locks sheepishly and sighed. "I'm sorry, okay? I just... find it hard to believe we've been sent here not to kill people but to have a break and relax." He frowned and crossed his arms.
Okita couldn't help but nod in understanding. They wouldn't need to dye their hands in red this time around. It was far different from what they were used to, completely different. She understood why he was feeling conflicted and shocked, though. Who knows when they'll be called to act as Counter Guardians once more... Then again, Okita could somewhat understand why Alaya gave them a break... at least, she thinks she does.
"By the way, your face fell on my chest when you passed out earlier, EMIYA-senpai."
"W-Why did you bother pointing that out now!?" His palm met his face, dragging it down with a groan. Damn his E-rank luck! Gah, if it was anyone else, he'd likely have a red palm mark on his cheek...
Okita could see the faint pink on his face, causing a soft chuckle to leave her lips.
Getting up from the tatami mat with a grumble, EMIYA gave the house another once-over. Looks like there was a sliding door to the patio behind the curtains.
"Have you already checked the house while I was passed out?"
"Yes. Our rooms are upstairs, as well as one of the bathrooms. There's also one near the kitchen." That got his attention.
"Mind showing me the kitchen?"
"Of course."
She got up as well and led her senior to the kitchen. The bowman's eyes widened, and his jaw dropped at the sight. There, before him, was a kitchen that he could only describe as one from a wet dream of his. Everything he could ever wish for in a cooking area was there. The hell, they even have an espresso machine?!
He wasn't one to care whether a kitchen had the latest gizmos and cooking equipment, but he had to admit: he was amazed.
Despite how everything looked like it was beyond what he could ever afford in his past life, the aesthetic of the kitchen gave off a cozy and warm feeling. One of his broken memories felt like the pieces were being put back together. It kinda reminded him of...
His home.
A scene of the boy, Rin, Sakura, Illya, Saber, and Taiga filling the dining table and enjoying a meal the boy prepared flashed before his eyes for a second.
"EMIYA-senpai?" Okita called out as he removed his gaze from the kitchen to face his junior.
"Yeah?"
The tanned woman sent him one of her rare smiles and pointed at his lips.
"You're smiling."
Archer blinked, letting his fingertips graze his lips. Ah...
"Huh, I guess I am."
"Did you remember something?"
"...Something like that." He shrugged. "I gotta ask: what about our money while we're here in this world? I can work as a mechanic if we—"
"That won't be necessary, Senpai. There's money in our rooms. We also have a wallet with our IDs. In case we need to show some identification."
Archer was speechless. Did Alaya prepare those for— okay, stupid question but still. He would ignore how for now. But that was a real shocker, and it brought back a bit of trepidation.
"Alaya really thought things through..." He mumbled. What will he find out next? A closet full of expensive clothing that would normally bore a hole in his wallet? That is so likely right now... Bah, he should just accept the kindness Alaya gave him for the moment.
The bowman looked at the wall clock nearby and hummed. They must have arrived around noon, and he was unconscious for three hours. "Are you hungry, Okita?"
The woman's face gave way for confusion to creep in.
"We don't need to eat food, remember Senpai?"
"I do, but what are you feeling right now? Do you want to eat something?" He asked, projecting a pair of glasses as he slipped them on.
His kouhai suddenly found the floor interesting, looking at it before she nodded her head. EMIYA cracked a grin and ruffled her locks gently. He made his way to the fridge to check for ingredients. The fridge was pretty stocked too.
"What do you want to eat?"
"Oden." was her instantaneous response.
Archer couldn't hold back a chuckle as he closed the refrigerator. He heard of her love for oden; now, he wondered if his fellow Guardian had an appetite of a lion for it.
"This fridge is packed with ingredients, but it looks like we're missing a few ones for oden." He smirked in amusement at her deflated expression. "Guess there's one thing we have to do."
There were still many questions that plagued his mind. Worry, doubt, and uneasiness, all of them were there, but they took a backseat for the time being. While he still couldn't fully accept that their mission in this world was to take a vacation, EMIYA might as well do one of the few things he loves now that he has regained his cool.
"What is it...?" Okita questioned, defeated. She must really love her oden...
The bowman snorted and pointed at the door with his thumb.
"To buy the ingredients, of course."
For the world/timeline they've been sent to for their vacation, think of it as a mix of Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan and Carnival Phantasm, definitely the former more than the latter but that kind of atmosphere were what I was going for with this fic. Other characters will make an appearance at some point (probably next chapter lol)
I think you all probably know that EMIYA's wearing the costume you can get in FGO. It's one of my favorite casual looks! For Okita, I just looked up casual clothes Okita Alter XD
All right that's all for the time being! See ya!
