I'll be there to comfort you...
Sesshomaru was used to minor complications, hell he was used to major ones, but this- this was a whole other thing. When they arrived back, Jaken was there to greet them as Sesshomaru all but dragged her along. The imps jaw hit the floor and his staff along with it.
Sesshomaru found the room he was looking for, a room full of books from his father and his fathers before him.
"Sit."
She complied.
He started looking, yet not really knowing what he was looking for.
"What are you looking for?"
"Answers," He stated, not looking at her,
"I don't think they are there."
"The Miko got her knowledge from somewhere,"
"Are you going to still call me that?"
He froze, then turned,
"I'm not a Miko anymore," She looked down,
He had not thought about it much. "It would be incorrect to call you that."
Oddly, they both seem to like the nickname,
"I will call you by your given name,"
"Not my term?"
"No." He turned back and pulled a few books down,
"Why didn't you just press Kikyo for more?"
"I do not trust her,"
"Her sister, then?"
"I highly doubt the elder Miko even knew."
"Are you going to keep me here?"
"Yes,"
"Can I leave?"
He turned to her; he understood her question, "You are not a prisoner."
She stood and went to the window; she walked with more grace now,
"I know that you're confused; I'm confused, but I understand."
"You are calm,"
"If you haven't noticed, I'm pretty used to stuff like this; it seems to be my fate."
"You accept it?"
"Better than being dead," She turned to look at him. "I never thanked you."
He simply nodded, and she turned. "Are you still mad? I cannot tell,"
"I am not mad."
"Does this mean I'll live forever?"
"Hn,"
She sighed, "It's not because I'm a demon, but because I'm Inu."
"Correct," He flipped through a few pages of a book,
"Why did you save me?" She touched the sheer fabric of the window with her small claw,
"Death did not deserve you." He meant it,
"Why didn't you use your sword?"
"As you said, fate plays with you like it's toy."
She smiled a fang show, and then it faded. "When you find answers, what will you do with them? Will it make a difference?"
He stopped reading. "I am unsure," He stated truthfully,
"Anything you want me to do?" She turned from the window and walked up to where the book lay and picked one up. "I don't want to be useless."
He blinked, "You are educated?"
She turned the book. "Mm, I may have some trouble with some of the text, but yes, I am educated."
He knew she was smart, but he didn't know she was educated. He looked at her, puzzled for a moment; she picked up on it and looked up. "What now?"
"I do not understand how you are you when you are not you; I watched your soul leave."
She smiled again. "Correction, you saw part of Kikyo's soul leave,"
His brows came together,
"Like the woman who made the jewel, when Kikyo died, some of her soul fused with it, and when I was born some of her soul with it, I didn't lose my soul, she simply gained hers back."
How did he not know this?
"We should write that down," She joked, but she was right; they needed to document it.
He closed the books; she was right; he highly doubted they could change her without her death again, and it would seem a soul was limited.
"You're going to make me ask what again, aren't you,"
"You are correct,"
"About?"
"Nothing can be changed."
"I kinda figured as much unless you plan on trying to kill me again."
Nope, he was done with that. "I seem to recall that I cannot."
"When I was a Miko,"
Still,
"Your soul is at its limit."
"So, now what?"
"What do you wish to do?"
She turned and sat back down. "I don't know, figure this body out, help Inuyasha, marry off Miroku and Sango, start a family of my own,"
She looked up at him. "I know I can't go home; that is something she did steal from me."
Sadness washed over her. "Maybe I'll see them again one day,"
He walked over to her when tears filled her eyes, yet "You do not believe your words?"
She looked up, and her tears fell.
"Sesshomaru, in my time, there are no demons."
"Time has been altered," He stated, "You should have returned."
She looked down, making a fist with her hands in her lap. "Things are happening that I don't understand." She sniffled,
"You will adjust with my help,"
He stood there, she cried. He didn't know how to comfort her, even if he wanted to comfort her. All he could do was help her with the change and offer her a place to stay; the rest would be up to her.
