Chapter 58: No Probable Cause

Jamie and Eddie sat in their living room on the couch while Erin sat in a chair across from them. She was laying out everything and explaining to Eddie her opinion on Mckena Starnson.

"Mckena Starnson has no probable cause to sue you personally Eddie. You didn't cause her family to lose all their life's savings. If she's telling you that she's rebuilding all the savings her parents lost, then that's her deal. You're lucky that Mckena Starnson dropped the assault charge."

Eddie crossed her arms over her chest.

"I think I can call it self-defense Erin. She had no right call my dad what she did. Only I'm allowed to call him that."

Jamie placed one hand on her belly and the other went to her shoulder, giving it a tiny squeeze. His phone pinged and he checked it. Worry began to line his face.

"Hey Ed, I'm going to need you to relax. My phone just alerted me that Patrick's heart rate is in the 180's. Take a breath and relax."

Eddie nodded and her hand lightly rubbed her belly.

"Your right bub. I'm sorry Patrick. Mommy is ok. I promise."

Jamie turned his attention towards Erin.

"Ok Erin, I think that's enough questioning for today."

Erin nodded. Changing the subject, she felt a smile come to her face.

"I heard congratulations are in order you two. Your having a boy. I got a present for him. If you don't like it, you can exchange it for something else."

Jamie and Eddie watched as Erin pulled out a blue bag with the words 'It's a boy!' written all over it. Handing it to the couple, she watched for their reaction. Eddie snatched the bag from Jamie and opened it. Pulling out a mobile, she smiled when she saw they had tiny police cars on them.

"This is adorable Erin. Thank you!"

Erin gave Eddie a soft smile.

"I thought you might like that."

Erin was about to vacate the chair she was occupying but stopped short and looked at Eddie, continuing her conversation.

"Eddie, I didn't realize your doctor had put you back on the fetal monitor. Is Patrick ok?"

Eddie nodded and took another breath before speaking.

"He's ok. I had a small scare when I was in a holding cell down at the 22. I was in there for 12 hours without so much as a glass of water. My body was showing signs of early labor. Doctor Carollson was able to reverse it, but I have to rest for a few days until everything normalizes. Temporary bed rest."

Erin gave Eddie a gentle hug and squeezed her hand.

"If you two need anything, let me know. I'm here to help out any way I can. The whole family is."

Eddie stayed seated on the couch while Jamie saw Erin out the door. She let out a groan and then blew out a breath.

"Ouch. Patrick buddy, could you please stop using my rib cage as a punching bag? Do you want me to get daddy to talk to you?"

The rhythmic thumping against her belly suddenly ceased. Letting out a slight sigh, she rubbed her belly and then looked up to see the concerned face of Jamie kneeling down on one knee in front of her.

"What's wrong?"

Eddie gave a slight laugh.

"Our son was using my rib cage as a punching bag again. I told him that I would get his daddy to talk to him if he didn't quit. Worked like a charm and he stopped kicking me."

Jamie rubbed a hand over her belly and then kissed it.

"Sounds like mommy is going to be the strict one with you baby boy."

Eddie felt a swift kick and she let out a soft groan.

"So, you agree with daddy sweetheart?"

Another swift kick and she shook her head. Jamie gave another kiss to Eddie's belly and smiled.

"Well, guess I know you and Cora will come to daddy when mommy says you can't have something."

Eddie narrowed her eyes and placed both hands on either side of her belly.

"Don't listen to daddy baby boy. I can say yes to anything you ask me."

Jamie smirked at Eddie.

"Nice how you turned the tables on me babe."

Jamie took a seat next to Eddie and looked at his phone one more time. He continued his conversation.

"Ok, that's better. Patrick's heart rate is back down in the 160's again. Now, do you want something to eat? Or do you want to take a nap?"

Eddie cocked her head sideways and thought on it a moment. Jamie could see the tell-tale sparkle in her eyes.

"Could you get us some spicy Thai?"

Jamie gave Eddie a leery look.

"Are you sure you want Thai? What about the heartburn?"

Eddie waved her hand at Jamie.

"The heartburn has been negligible. I think he's going to take after me, he's going to love food."

Jamie gave a slight laugh and pulled her in for a kiss. Pulling a way, he gave her a smile.

"I'll put an order in and then I'm going to check on Cora."

Eddie nodded and smiled. Stretching and yawning, she watched as Jamie helped her get settled on the couch.

"Ok, are you comfortable? Keep that pillow between your knees. Have a nap until the food comes. I love you."

Eddie smiled and her eyes began to droop. Sleep soon enveloped her. Even in her sleep she could hear Jamie speaking to Cora upstairs in the nursery and playing with her. Soon, her entire body relaxed and sleep completely took over. Before long, she felt Jamie shaking her shoulder.

"Ed, honey, time to eat."

Cracking her eyes open, she gave a tired smile and sat up with Jamie's help.

"Good, because we're starving. Ooh. Did you get me some extra hot sauce?"

Jamie made the time out sign.

"You don't need extra hot sauce. There is plenty on your food."

Eddie frowned and pouted. But relented and took her fork to her plate and dug in. Closing her eyes and then opening them, giving a satisfied sigh.

"This tastes so good! You made my day bub! Thanks!"

Jamie smiled and kissed her forehead.

"I'd do anything to keep and make you happy babe. Can you hand me my food? I've gotta feed the little princess her dinner too."

Eddie's face lit up.

"I knew I loved you with kids. You're such a natural. Even before we had kids or even got together you have always been good with them. You're a great with them. That's why I love you."

Jamie raised his eyebrows at Eddie and took his food towards the kitchen.

"That's not the other reason you love me babe…"

Eddie gave him a mischievous smile.

"Not only that bub. I fell in love with you for many other reasons too."

Eddie leaned up against the back of couch as she finished off the last of her dinner.

"Ah. You know all the right ways to make me feel good Jamie Reagan. That's what I love about you."

Everything seemed to be falling back into place again. At least for the moment.
