Amity felt her heart leap into her throat when Luz said those words. All the joy she had felt up to that moment in seeing the puppet deal with her trauma vanished in favor of a tornado of rather conflicting emotions that was unleashed in her mind with such violence that it annihilated any thought she was having, with the result that she almost lost the ability to speak: "Um... well... yes... I think we should... talk about it..."

Luz in turn felt a little unsteady, and looking down she realized that her legs had started to shake again, but she was pretty sure it wasn't because her feet were immersed in the sea water. Even though she was the one who had suggested talking about 'that thing,' when she opened her mouth again her voice refused to come out, as if her vocal cords were paralyzed. In fact, she wasn't even sure what to say. Within just a few fractions of a second she found herself sweating so much that she wouldn't have been surprised if the sea level would start to rise.

In the end, after what seemed like an interminable time, Amity was the one who gathered courage and spoke up first: "Well... first of all... I'm sorry"

"Huh? No... no, you don't have to..." Luz tried to say.

But Amity ignored her. "Regardless of my intentions or feelings, I shouldn't have... kissed you... so suddenly and without asking your permission, so... I'm sorry. But...". She took a deep breath, then she dropped the bomb: "... but I have to confess that... I like you, Luz, and not just as a friend. I feel my heart beating wildly every time I'm close to you, or even just look at you, and I would really like to hold your hand in mine or placing my lips on... okay, I'll stop before I say something very embarrassing. The point is... I love you. But... but I understand that this is a... difficult and strange situation for you... so... if you just want to... forget about what happened..."

"NO!" Luz screamed making her jump. "I don't want to forget about it!"

Amity froze. "Uh... what?"

Luz bit her tongue, and she felt like her insides had turned inside out like socks. "I... I don't want to forget... because... because...". Her heart was about to leap out of her chest, but still she exclaimed: "...because I liked it!"

Amity took on the consistency more or less of a pillar of salt. "D-Did you like it?" she whispered when her brain was able to form a sentence again.

Luz nodded, and although the shaking in her legs had now spread to a good part of the rest of her body, she continued to say: "I... I loved that kiss... it was one of the most beautiful moments of my life ... and... and... and I would love to do it again!". Her voice was becoming so high-pitched that soon only bats would hear it, but she forced herself to add: "But... but I don't want to do it again... on my cheek!"

The color of Amity's face quickly changed from her normal paleness to fiery red. Her heartbeat was now so violent that even Luz could hear it. "You mean... you'd like me to kiss you... on the lips too?"

"AAAAAAAH! Why did I say something like that!? Stupid puppet, what was on your mind!? Why can't I make a normal speech!?" Luz screamed in her head in total embarrassment, and she felt the strong urge to answer 'no' to Amity's question, but she held back because that situation was already difficult enough and she didn't want to add her growing nose to the mountain of shame she was already facing. "Y-Yes... I would like you to kiss me... I mean, I would like us to kiss... even on the lips" she said with a trembling voice. The temperature of her face had now reached such levels that it was a miracle the wood she was made of hadn't already begun to char. "Amity… everything you said before… about you loving me and feeling your heart pound when you're next to me… I feel it too. I… I feel different when you are next to me. I feel safer, more courageous, stronger. I was able to put my feet in the water thanks to you, because you were close to me and... and you were hugging me... that... what I want to say is that... that you are not just a friend to me, and I feel... I feel something strong for you... that is... well..."

Luz was talking almost without breathing, so much so that her face was almost turning blue. "Come on, you stupid brain, works! I need your help! Let me say that damn sentence!" she screamed in her head, but despite this her lips moved more and more hardly; it felt like the muscles in her mouth were turning to concrete. "What I mean is... is that maybe the two of us... could... well... how to say... do... do you..."

"Do you want to go out with me!?" Amity suddenly shouted, stopping her mid-speech.

There was a moment of silence, in which none of the girls said a word; and then for some reason that neither of them could explain, their bodies totally relaxed and they both found themselves laughing loud. "Noooo, I was almost there! I almost said it myself!" Luz exclaimed, pretending to be sorry.

Amity giggled. "Well... do it now. Let's pretend nothing happened"

"Okay" Luz said, and then with much more confidence than before she asked: "Amity Blight, do you want to go out with me?"

"Yes, absolutely!" Amity replied, and a smile appeared on her face, so wide that Luz was dazzled for a moment. She almost thought that the lavander-haired girl's white teeth were a beautiful crescent moon.

The two girls looked into each other's eyes for a moment, then they both stretched out their hands towards each other, and shook them; as soon as their fingers met, they twisted forcefully around each other as if they were desperatly waiting for it from a while, all without the two girls having given them such a command. Both Amity and Luz felt all their touch receptors focus on that one spot and swallowed audibly. "Damn, Skara was right… it's still really scary" Luz murmured.

"Well... considering how it ended between Skara and Boscha... we can be optimistic" Amity said even though she too had beads of sweat on her forehead. But despite this, she couldn't remember ever being happier in her life.

Luz reflected for a moment in the gaze of her apparently new girlfriend, and she thought that those were the most beautiful eyes in the world. She tried desperately to say something, anything, but it was as if her mind had gone completely blank, and her every thought had been sucked into those magnificent golden eyes, leaving her head as empty as a balloon. "It's... It's really weird" she whispered. "Usually I always have something to say... but right now... I can't find the words"

"Well... then I'll talk" Amity replied; she took a deep breath and then she said: "Luz, I became the top of the class because for every question I had I forced myself to find an answer and I didn't give up until I had it, but... I don't think that even in a million years I will be able to understand how an arrogant, snooty, pompous girl with a lot of parents issues like me can be lucky enough to find a kind and cheerful puppet who distributes happiness with every smile like you, and that this puppet is even willing to love me"

"And I will never understand how a reckless, lazy, stubborn, incapable of thinking before speaking and with a great aptitude for getting into trouble puppet like me could deserve a beautiful cotton candy hair goddess who supports her and gives her courage in every situation like you" Luz replied back with a light laugh.

Amity's cheeks were on fire again. "C-Cotton candy… hair… goddess?" she whispered, and with each word her face turned a darker shade of red.

When she realized what she had actually said, Luz's eyes widened. "Um... sorry, I... I didn't mean..."

But she couldn't say anything else: Amity took her wooden face in her hands and brought it closer to hers. The two girls' eyes came within a few centimeters away and stared at each other for what seemed an interminable time; and then they both closed their eyelids. Neither of them ever knew who closed the distance between them: maybe it was Amity, maybe Luz, or maybe they both moved at the same time, but the fact is that their lips ended up being completely glued to each other. Both of their hearts seemed to explode, but neither of them paid attention and instead brought their bodies even closer to each other. Their tongues explored each other's mouths so thoroughly that they seemed to want to memorize every single micrometer, and then they wrapped around each other and began to continually rub each other like two snakes in the midst of mating season; with every single touch the two girls felt as if fireworks were exploding inside them, and their brains now seemed to have been totally cooked or even melted. Their tongues and lips seemed to have taken on a life of their own and didn't want to let go: Amity could taste the wood Luz was made of, which despite the hard material had a very good taste, similar to that of cedar or elm; and Luz could fully taste Amity, and thought that she looked like a combination of honey, sweets, cakes, cannoli and, of course, lots of cotton candy. Their insides were dancing and their legs seemed to have acquired wings and carried them up to the sky. Eventually the two girls began to feel the effects of the lack of oxygen as their lips were glued together so much that not even the smallest particle of air could pass through, but neither of them wanted to end that contact... but given who were about to suffocate, in the end they were forced to do so and separated with a deep breath. They looked at each other for a moment, and then Luz exclaimed: "Wow... crikey!"

Amity's eyes widened slightly. Luz only then realized what she had just said. "I can't believe I just said that" she whispered in total embarrassment, and she felt the strong urge to throw herself into the water and hide under it and never come out again, even at the risk of suffocating to death. "Where did that come from!?"

She was about to put her hands in her hair, but Amity stopped her and looked at her with a smile. "No, don't be ashamed of it. It was exactly like you... and I love it. I love everything about you"

Those words didn't make Luz's embarrassment go away, but they lessened it enough to make her smile again. "Did... Did you like it? I mean... was I good?" she asked a little hesitantly.

"You were perfect, Luz. No... you were you. That's the important thing" Amity replied. "And it was the best thing in my life precisely because it was you"

Luz's smile widened so much it almost touched her ears. "T-Thank you, Amity. And... you were great too, no... you were... well, you. And these words of yours too are also exactly like you. As I've said a thousand times already... you're an angel. And I just kissed an angel, I couldn't ask for anything better"

Amity's pupils momentarily seemed to become heart-shaped. "I don't know if I prefer you to call me angel or cotton candy hair goddess"

Luz brought her face closer to his again. "I think... from now on I'll just call you my awesome girlfriend" she told her; and before either of them could say even a syllable, their lips and tongues were once again united in a passionate kiss.
