"You know Edward, I agree with Jasper. It is my life. I should have been informed." I pushed at him and stood up to my feet. This time he allowed me to get up and backed up.

"I'm trying to watch out for you, protect you."

"Well, maybe I don't need protection right now as much as answers. Is my father in danger? Are my friends in danger?"

He shook his head. "No, the wolf mutts have been doing circuits of your father's place regularly. It makes the whole property stink. Vampires will not willingly go into that stench."

The anger within me boiled more. That meant another one of my 'friends' had known. Had knew and had not bothered to tell me. Jacob was going to get my wrath but later. Now I needed to deal with the issue of why the Cullen's just went along with his wishes and not told me my life was in danger again.

"Why didn't the others tell me?"

"I told them not to. It is for the best."

My mouth dropped open for a second and I shook my head. Closing my mouth, I took a deep breath before speaking again. "I am heading to Charlie's. I need to see him. Prove to myself that he is safe." I made my way downstairs, Edward following.

"You cannot leave, it is not safe. You cannot go there."

I whirled on him once at the bottom of the stairs, careful not to fall. "You cannot prevent me from seeing my own father. From going home to my own house and my own bedroom." I hissed this out between clenched teeth, and I didn't even try to watch my volume, knowing the full house of vampires could already hear our conversation. "I am heading home to see my dad. Don't you dare stop me."

With that, I turned back towards the door and kept walking.

"Wait, you do not understand my love. The wolves have taken his place and marked it as part of their territory. I cannot enter."

Without even looking back I shook my head and responded. "So, how does that impact me? If Charlie is safe, then I will be safe. Bye!"

I worked my way down the porch steps and towards my truck. Just as I shut the door and tried to turn the engine over, I felt a rush of wind. Sighing I tried the key again. The truck did not start. I tried and tried and tired. It just would not start. Turning to the vampire sitting next to me, I asked, "What did you do?"

"You cannot go. It is not safe. I cannot protect you there."

Angry I threw my keys at his head. Of course, he caught them with his vampire reflexes, but I still felt a little better with the small show of aggression. I got out, slammed the door and yelled. "JASPER!"

"What are you doing? He is dangerous and I will not let him hurt you again. Come back inside where it is safe."

I shook my head. "No, I will not go back inside until I see my father. You will not let me go by my truck, so I will find another way." Edward and I matched glares, my arms crossed, and his condescending face made me angrier.

At that moment, I saw blonde curls above a red shirt at the edge of the forest. I ensured I spoke loud enough, hoping he would understand me.

"Fine, you won't let me see my father – who is potentially at risk because of Victoria – then at least let me have alone time. That means you are not allowed in the room. I want to be by myself for a while. I do not even want to see you right now. Perhaps I will read."

He eyed me dubiously but eventually nodded. We walked back inside and up to his room. I stomped my feet louder than necessary, trying to work out some anger. I went over and picked up my worn copy of Wuthering Heights and sat on the bed. He went to join me when I raised my eyebrows at him. "I meant it. I want alone time. Get out!"

"Look Bella, you are being unreasonable. This is for your protection and safety. I cannot protect you at your dad's since the mutts have claimed it. I only ever want to protect you." I just kept my eyebrows raised at him until he finally sighed. "Fine, I will leave you alone. You are safe in here. I will just be downstairs at the piano if you need anything."

"I won't."

With that, I purposely ignored him and started reading my book. After a few minutes he sighed and left, closing the door behind him. Waiting until I could hear the piano, I carefully made my way to the window and opened it. Luckily, the hinges were well maintained, and it did not make noise. Or at least I did not think it did. The piano continued playing without a hitch in the tune on the other side of the house. I let out a silent sigh of relief.

A second later, Jasper was in the window. I almost yelped, but he held his finger to my lips, and I calmed. Where his finger touched me, chilled me deeply that I felt a burning sensation. He reached his arms out and then waited, staring me in the face, asking my permission. I nodded and entered his arms.
