Chapter 6: Mission For Two part 1
A few days after the dungeon break incident.
Romeo is sitting in the new/old guild hall which is in the process of rebuilding. He's currently testing with his new weapon(which he said he loot from a monster's corpse) and practicing his new fire skill(which he said he just knows how to do after the fight). He looks trouble. "If a B-rank boss was that powerful, I can't imagine how an A-rank, S-rank, or even beyond that is going to be like. This is not counting the higher beings, who easily eclipsed these bosses." Romeo thought. He has been bothered by this after the incident. He needs to grow stronger, but there's only so much daily training can get him. He needs to clear dungeons, especially Gate dungeon if he wants to make a significant change. The problem is that to enter Gate dungeon you need to have a party, which he doesn't have. He could form a party with fellow guild members, but he knows that they'll try to keep him away from the dungeon he needs. Significant growth or not, he's still a kid to everyone, and he appreciates that everyone is looking for him, but it also hindered his ability to help them, which is already hindered by a certain someone not wanting him to share secrets. Romeo thought for a bit before noticing Wendy approaching him and put his blade away in the sword belt he bought in one of Magnolia's stores. He has the item box sure, but he also thought the belt looks cool.
Wendy is by herself, nervous. She doesn't know why, but after the dungeon incident, she can't stop thinking about Romeo. She remembers his fights, how he moves, and the fact he got back from attacks that seriously injured Natsu. But what sticks to her the most was his reaction throughout the whole thing. He's scared and distraught like her, but he also maintains his calmness. Even though he's probably been in as much fight as she does(which wasn't much), maybe even less, he'd shown the skills and mentality of an experienced warrior. She was fascinated by this and wants to know more about Romeo. That and he's kinda cute she won't lie.
"Hi." Romeo smile, then look around, noticed someone missing.
"Where's Carla?" He ask.
"Oh. She, Happy, and Pantherlily all went to visit the Exceed's village." Wendy answers. After the Gates started to appear, many of the Exceed gained healing power alongside a small number of human and has offered their services in exchange for protection.
"So how are you doing?" Wendy ask.
"I'm ok. Better than a few days ago that's for sure." Romeo answered. "How about you?"
"I'm fine. Thanks for asking."
The two stay silent for a minute.
"So what are your plans for today." Wendy asks.
"Nothing really." Romeo answered. "I'm hoping to be able to clear a dungeon but that's not happening soon."
"Are you sure you want to do something like that after the other day?" Wendy ask, concerns. "It's fine to sit back and take a break after what happened you know?"
"I have to." Romeo sigh. "The monsters only grow stronger by the day and I can't if I just sit idly by. My win the other day was literally thanks to luck, and I can't rely on that. I have to grow stronger so that I can protect this world. But thanks for looking out for me."
Romeo was right. So far, it's luck that he got as far as he is. It's by luck that he met Bladewolfe and got this power and by luck that he beat Jades. So far, he's only killed low level mobs and a weak dungeon's boss. He can't keep relying on it.
Wendy is in awe. So far, this boy in front of her right now has shown that he has more power and skills than not just her, but most of the guild yet he still tries to grow stronger so he can protect others.
"And here I am still sitting around despite being so useless." Wendy looks down, berating herself.
Romeo is stunned.
"What are you talking about?" Romeo asks, looking at her with a shocked expression. "You're like, one of the strongest mage in the guild."
"That's nice of you Romeo." Wendy thanked. "But I'm not. Compare to how amazing everyone else is, I'm just a child struggling to walk."
"No you're not." Romeo argues. "You're a dragon slayer, you have incredible talent, and your healing magic is incredibly useful."
"A dragon slayer that barely knows how to fight, a talent that's easily eclipsed by others like you, and a healing magic that's nothing compared to the mages we have today." Wendy screams angrily. "Unlike you, I'm not lucky enough to be blessed with power and incredible growth."
Once Wendy finished, she froze. Why did she get mad at Romeo for? He was just being nice to her. What would he think of her now?
Romeo is silent, realization hits him. He never expected Wendy to feel this way, but he should have. Wendy has always been around powerful people, of course she would've felt a certain feeling of inferiority, of uselessness. Looking at her now, he sees the image of a younger him, back when he first learned of his ineptitude for magic. He feels guilty, perhaps Wendy should've been the one to have this power.
What's done is done. Move on.
A message suddenly appears.
Wendy was about to run off then
"I understand how you feel." Romeo suddenly spoke up. "I've been feeling the same way for years. To be so weak, so helpless, that all you can do is sit by and watch while others you love struggle."
He smiles, looking at Wendy with sympathetic eyes.
"Perhaps it wasn't fair for me to suddenly gained all this power. Perhaps it should've been you."
"That's not what I've meant." Wendy argues. "I wasn't trying to-."
"It's fine. I know that you didn't mean it that way." Romeo smiles. "But that doesn't change the fact that this is how things are. I want to keep this power, I won't deny that. But I also want to use it to help others in ways I couldn't before. Starting with helping you grow stronger."
That message was right. What happened, happened, there's no changing that. Well, Bladewolfe can be he's not doing jack. Romeo could only focus on the future and he this is how he'll do it.
Wendy is loss for words. Her heart is beating fast and she's feeling all kind of emotion right now.
"How will you do that?" Wendy managed to get out.
"A C Gate has appears in Hargeon. I repeat, a C Gate has appeared in Hargeon." An alarm going on outside.
"How about a dungeon adventure?" Romeo smiles.
Romeo and Wendy are on a train towards Hargeon. Most mages were busy right now so the dungeon hasn't been cleared or claimed yet and it took a lot of convincing, but Romeo managed to get both he and Wendy to go on this quest on account of the dungeon's low rank.
The two of them sits in awkward silence, not sure of what to say.
Break the awkward silence already, this is unbearable to watch.
A message pops up.
Romeo's eyes widened. Did Bladewolfe just directly contact him?
"What are you doing?" Romeo thought. "I thought you said you wouldn't interact with me again. The last message was because I broke the burden, right? Also did you sent that message earlier?"
Wow. We haven't talked to each other for a while and this is the first thing you say? You're cold, man.
Romeo could swear he heard Bladewolfe laughing.
The reason I'm contacting now is because I can't handle awkward silence. I hate when they do that on drama shows and I want you to change that. And yes, the message earlier was me. I'm not a fan of emo kids so stop thinking that way. Now hurry up and break this silence. This is torturous.
"You think I don't feel that? What should I even say?"
Anything. Just break the silence, hell I'll do you a favor if you do it. Within reason of course.
Romeo sigh, rubbing his forehead.
"Are you ok?" Wendy noticed.
"I'm fine, just dealing with a minor headache. It should be gone soon." Romeo answered.
"Ok then." Wendy nods.
"So what do you know about Gate dungeon?" Romeo asks.
"Well I know that they take you to some alternate world of some kind and you have to kill the boss to close the dungeon." Wendy explained. "Usually you send people in to clear everything but the boss, then have a separate group come in to gather materials, then have the first team come in and finish the boss."
"You're correct." Romeo complement. "But after what happened the other day the city don't want any material and just want the Gate gone so we'll get in, clear the place, and get out."
"Oh, simple enough." Wendy smile.
...
Come on keep the ball rolling.
"I'm trying!"
"So how do you think you got your powers." Wendy ask.
...Shit
"Uh, Bladewolfe."
You're on your own there.
It was quiet for a minute until Romeo speak up.
"I was at an empty field when a natural dungeon manifest. I wasn't in my best mental state, having been ridiculed by Twilight Ogre. I decided to enter it without telling everyone and barely managed to run out. I think my power started to manifest after that."
"Maybe you had an awakening there." Wendy guess.
"Maybe."
"Do you think I'll be that lucky?"
"I'm not sure. But even if you aren't, I know you have what it takes to grow strong without awakening."
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely."
Wendy smiles. The two reaches their destination. As they were getting off.
"Bladewolfe, you there?" Romeo ask mentally.
Yes.
"After this is done do you think you can-"
Imma stop you right there. If you're gonna ask me to give Wendy something like your power, you're going past the "reason" range of the favor. Before you start to cry though, I could give her something else, not as good as your power of course, but it will suffice. Hell I'll give to all Fairy Tails members. I'll increase their growth rate and potential so that they could match your growth. Just finished this dungeon and I'll get to it.
"Really? Thank you so much."
You're welcome. Now hurry up with your date. I enjoy a good young romance story.
Bladewolfe went offline.
Romeo stagger for a bit, flustered, then sigh, rubbing his forehead and smile. Bladewolfe could be really annoying at times but he has helped Romeo out so much he can't even begin to thank him.
The pairs make their way to the city halls
Author's note(Haven't done one of these in a while)
Bladewolfe is a troll. Anyway take a while guess where Black Flash came from(should've asked this on the chapter it debuted but oh well.)
Anyway I realized just how little actions are in this story so far(which should be why most people start reading this story given the premise) so from the next chapter onwards I will try and rectify that.
