"Giles." Xander said, as he looked down at Buffy's prone body. "Just a word of advice, like back when I advised you to wear a cup before going to see Mrs. S when she first found out about all this supernatural stuff. Run. Run now. Run fast. Don't even bother to clear out your condo. Just run and do it before Buffy wakes up. Because I'm pretty sure she's going to want to kill you. Slowly. Possibly over the course of months. She's also going to want to know about the condom. The one you either forgot or that broke. If you forgot then your life is definitely forfeit. She might eventually be able to forgive a broken condom. But not before she burns down the factory where they're made. So, best advice I can offer is to run."
"Would you run if it was Cordelia?"
"No, of course not. Terrifying as the idea of being a father is, I love Cordelia. So of course I wouldn't run."
"Even if her father threatens to shoot you?"
"Mr. Chase likes me. Mrs. Chase is the one who would threaten to shoot me. She'd even learn how to, just so she can. Doesn't mean I'd run away. My biggest fear is turning into my father. Cordelia wouldn't let me. She'd kick my butt if I ever acted like that ass. So, her mother threatening to shoot me, not so scary. Buffy is a whole different level of scary though, especially when she's pissed."
"I will not run for the same reason you wouldn't."
"Oh."
"You mean you and Joyce are in love?" Willow asked.
"Yes, we are." Joyce answered for Giles. "And Buffy will just have to learn to deal with that. Now, we need to figure out what this thing is that Dawn needs to be protected from. The sooner, the better."
"Unfortunately, we have nothing to go on." Giles told her. "Perhaps the spirit Xander channels is uncertain as to the source of the danger. All we can really do is maintain alertness until more information is available."
"And then we turn Buffy loose on it. Because I guarantee she's going need an outlet." Cordelia snarked.
"She just needs to get laid." Faith decided. "That'll take the edge off. She hasn't gotten any since that Parker dude blew her off last fall."
"You can all go. Rupert and I'll deal with Buffy." Joyce said and the rest of the Scoobies headed out, discussing various possible dangers that might be a threat to the baby.
It wouldn't be until near the end of October that the beginning of an answer came when another note appeared.
"Unknown when he arrives in town but a monk from the Order of Dagan will be in a warehouse at this address today. Joyce should get a CT scan, just in case."
"What's a CT scan?" Buffy asked. "And why might mom need it?" She was beginning to deal with the fact that her mother! had had sex and gotten pregnant. With Giles! Yeah, best not to think about any of that or it would drive her insane.
"A CT scan is a scan of the brain, Buffy." Willow told her. "It can detect problems like cancer or aneurysms and give the doctors a chance to catch a problem early and hopefully prevent problems."
"So the spirit thinks mom might possibly have something wrong with her brain?"
"It's possible. Does your insurance cover a scan, Joyce?" Willow asked.
"I'd have to check, but whether it does or not, this spirit has never been wrong, so I'll take its advice and check. What about this monk guy? Could he be connected to the possible danger the baby needs to be protected from?"
"That would be a good possibility." Giles agreed.
"Then we should search and stake out the warehouse in question." Xander decided. "And since the spirit wasn't sure exactly when this monk guy arrived in town, we should head over now."
The rest agreed and after dawning the vests and grabbing their weapons headed for the warehouse, where they did find a man in robes. Unfortunately, there was also a woman torturing him.
"We have to help him, even if we don't have any legal authority to arrest that woman." Xander said. "I'll distract her by pretending to be some kind of authority that can do something and Buffy, you get him out of here. The rest of you stay alert and we are allowed to defend ourselves, so if she charges or something, fire a warning shot."
"Alright, shouldn't be that big of a problem, right?" Buffy said "After all, she is human."
The rest agreed and Xander stepped on into the room. "Stop what you're doing, ma'am!" Xander yelled. The woman swung around to look at him. Taking the opportunity, Buffy quickly ran up behind the man and broke the ropes holding him to the chair the woman had him in.
"Who are you? What do you want?" The woman demanded to know.
"That's what I was wondering. Why are you torturing that man?"
"He knows where my key is and he won't tell me!"
"All this for a key?" Xander asked.
"My key! I want it and he won't tell me where it is!"
Behind them Buffy was escorting the monk to the stairs.
"Did you try asking politely? Or maybe he just misunderstood the question." Xander suggested. The woman looked confused.
"You think so? Hey, holy man, if I ask you politely will you tell me where my key is? Where'd my holy man go?"
"I don't know." Xander told her. "I can't see him."
"You let my holy man escape! I'm going to have to punish you." And that's when they realized she wasn't a woman at all. She blurred toward Xander, who began shooting at her. He realized very quickly that the bullets were just bouncing off of her. She reached him and jerked the gun out of his hands. Xander felt something tear and felt more pain then he'd ever felt in his life. The not a woman after all shoved him away from her and he flew back into the stairwell where the others were. Faith didn't hesitate, she pulled his unconscious body up and slung him over her shoulders and ran. The gang was right behind her. They could hear the strange person screaming and stomping her feet behind them. They barely managed to exit the warehouse before it collapsed behind them.
