'Again…' Satsuki Uchiha wasn't interested in anyone. She had long raven black hair with spikes in a high ponytail; two bangs framed her face, and black eyes. She wore a blue high-collared shirt with the Uchiha clan symbol on the back, white shorts, and blue sandals. She looked to her right side, where a young boy with spiky blond hair, blue eyes, and six whiskers walked up the stairs toward the last row. He wore orange pants, blue sandals, and a white shirt with a red spiral on the back.
This boy was Naruto Uzumaki, the dead last of the class. Everyone knew of his pranks, but something had changed the previous month. She told herself that she couldn't deny the change even when she had no interest in the dead last… at least. She didn't want to accept that something was picking up her interest.
A boy from the class wanted to punch Naruto because he ignored him, but Naruto sidestepped the boy and walked away from him as if nothing had happened. In the past month, he hadn't tried to pull one prank on Sensei Iruka or anyone else in the class.
Satsuki looked over her shoulder and saw him sitting alone in the last row, pulling a scroll from his backpack. This started a month ago. He would always come to class, never skipping any lesson. That wasn't normal for the dead last, and he would go through the different scrolls he brought with him to the academy.
He would sit there without making any noise and work through the scroll he had packed out of his backpack. Satsuki looked towards the front again as Sensei Iruka was coming in.
"Good morning, class." Iruka went through the names on the list and noticed that everyone was there. He looked toward the back and saw it again. He still couldn't believe that Naruto Uzumaki was silent in the back row. The boy would have usually tried to prank him or comment on something. No matter what it was, the boy always tried to be the center of attention, but for the past month, it was completely different.
He paid attention during class, even in history class. Well… he missed class for an entire week before that moment, and no one knew what was wrong with Naruto until he appeared again with his new attitude.
Not that he cared in the long run. Naruto had the beast that killed his parents inside of him; he simply couldn't ignore that fact. He didn't look at Naruto with hate, but he also didn't look at Naruto with gentle eyes. It was a neutral thing he did, like with all other students. He would still teach this class for a few years since all students were about 8-9 years old.
Naruto was eight years old. He wrote something down on a different scroll and looked at the other scroll. His eyes darted over the information on it. He was focused on the problematic topic of sealing jutsu. After he discovered that the name Uzumaki was actually from a big clan like the Uchiha clan, he sneaked into the library at night when it was closed and read through many history books about the Uzumaki clan.
Everything he heard about in his weird dream one month ago was true. He dreamed of an old man with long gray hair and a beard talking to another old man about the connection between the Senju Clan and the Uzumaki Clan. The older man also spoke about the things that made the Uzumaki Clan so famous and why they were feared by many in the past.
The Uzumaki Clan was formerly prominent in Uzushiogakure. Its members were renowned for having bright red hair, powerful life forces, chakra, and prowess in sealing jutsu.
Uzumaki members naturally possessed powerful life forces. As such, they had very long lifespans and likewise aged slower; Mito Uzumaki was born before the founding of Konoha yet lived well into the reign of the Third Hokage while still retaining complete coloring in her hair. This also enabled them to survive and endure much more severe injuries while recovering from injuries and exhaustion with much greater efficiency in short periods. These traits were strong enough to survive the removal of tailed beasts, although they were still left severely weakened afterward.
Naruto couldn't believe his eyes when he discovered everything because of a weird dream about a conversation between two older men. He didn't go to school for a week to sort out his thoughts.
He discovered he was from a famous clan, typically meaning he would be treated well and not like garbage. He wasn't beaten by any means, but everyone ignored him and looked at him with those hateful eyes. No matter what he did, he always got scolded for doing nothing.
He asked the third Hokage why everyone hated and ignored him. The third Hokage never answered. It didn't matter what Naruto asked the third Hokage; he never responded to his questions. Who were his parents? Did they love him? Were they still alive? Why didn't the third Hokage tell him about the Uzumaki Clan?
When Naruto was alone in his apartment for a week, all those questions ran through his head. He discovered the name Kushina Uzumaki, and with that, at least one question was answered for himself. He knew that the wife of the first Hokage was named Mito Uzumaki before she married the first Hokage and thus became Mito Senju.
Since Mito Uzumaki died before he was born, he searched for another name that would fit his birth date. He only found the name by accident, but he got the name Kushina Uzumaki. She was beside Mito Uzumaki, the only other Uzumaki who lived in Konoha after Uzushiogakure was killed.
It was clear to him that Kushina Uzumaki was his mother. After he searched deeper, he could get a photo from her when she was still in the academy when she was around Naruto's age. Naruto directly thought that his mother was very beautiful. This photo he had from his mother was the most precious item he possessed. He would never give it away, no matter what. It was the only thing he had from his family. He still didn't know who his father was since there was not much information about Kushina Uzumaki besides that she came to Konoha shortly before Uzushiogakure was destroyed and became a Shinobi from Konoha.
The reason why everyone hated him was still unknown. The reason why his parents were dead was unknown. After eight long years of uncertainty, he could only answer one of his questions.
However, pride swelled inside him after he learned about his mother and that he was from a famous clan. He never knew why he lived at all. Why did he live if everyone wanted him to die so badly? He heard the adults' whispers when they thought he didn't listen to them. They all wanted his death or his banishment.
He would make his clan proud and master the complex and rare art of sealing jutsu. He would become a master of it like many others in his clan. He only wondered why he had blond hair when all other Uzumaki clan members had red hair like his mother. He wished he had red hair like his mother, but that couldn't be changed.
He always played pranks because he didn't know what to do. He stopped crying long ago because it didn't help him in the slightest. Now that he had a goal in mind, he wouldn't prank anyone anymore since he didn't care about all of that. He didn't care what the villagers thought about him. He only thought about his goal.
What if the villagers hated him? He hated them, too, with all his being. They made his life a living hell to this point. Never let him play with other children, ignoring him, never helping him, kicking him out of stores, scolding him, and other things. Even when they never beat or punched him, the psychological strain Naruto had to go through was enough for a little child to think his life was hell.
Naruto would never forgive the villagers for all of that. He would forge his way through hard work and a will never to give up. He may not have been a genius like Satsuki Uchiha, but he was a hardworking individual who never gave up.
Well… when it came to sealing jutsu, he began to think he was, at least in that regard, some genius or had some talent. He instantly understood the complex theory behind seals and could understand why this art was so rare. For starters, children were more interested in flashy things like Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, or even Kenjutsu, but not something boring like sealing jutsu, where someone draws a pattern on paper with ink and brush.
Training calligraphy was too dull for children. Why would they train how to draw a perfect line with a brush when they could train how to punch someone in the face or exhale massive fireballs from their mouths?
Nonetheless, Konoha was his home even when he hated the villagers. He was born in this village and would train hard to become a strong shinobi. He would protect the town because his mother also lived here.
He had two precious people, even when just those two gave Naruto a sense of a family. He would protect Konoha to protect these two people. But he had to become stronger to protect the village, which meant long training days. He was just beginning his journey since he had just now taken the academy seriously. He fell behind and was the dead last for a reason. His theory was shit; his taijutsu was shit; his chakra control was shit; his shurikenjutsu was shit, and everything else, also. He would work hard to learn everything.
With Iruka as his Sensei, he at least had the chance to learn like every other student in the class since Iruka was the only one who taught him like every other student. The teacher before Iruka tried to manipulate Naruto. Naruto had luck in that regard, and the teacher was switched. He would take every lesson Iruka taught them seriously. He was also the only teacher who didn't look at him with these eyes. That was another reason why he was glad that Iruka was his teacher. At least in the academy, he didn't have to see those eyes from the adults. He had to deal with annoying classmates who tried to pick a fight with him.
Naruto looked toward the front since Iruka began his history lesson. Naruto stopped his sealing jutsu studies to pay attention to what Iruka said. It may be boring, but Naruto promised himself that he would learn everything he could. He wouldn't slack off and would train, study, and learn like a maniac.
'Like I thought, this is pretty hard for me since I am from the Uzumaki clan and have way more chakra than other children my age.' Naruto was training in one of the first exercises they learned in the academy to train the control over chakra. The academy was over an hour ago, and after he brought his backpack home with all his materials and ate something, he went out to a little forest not far away from his apartment complex to train in the leaf-sticking exercise.
A few classmates, like Sakura Haruno, have already mastered this exercise. From what Naruto understood, she had to have excellent chakra control. The less chakra someone had, the better their control, and the more chakra someone had, the worse their chakra control. Since Naruto had a large amount of chakra, his control was shit. There was no other word to it, and he had to place a shit ton of work into training his control over his chakra. Otherwise, he would waste too much chakra in the future when they were about to learn the first Jutsus. It was also important to get a better chakra control in order to mold his chakra better. Without the ability to mold his chakra properly, he would fail to use Ninjutsu in the future. So, he knew he had to begin early to better his chakra control as much as possible.
He closed his eyes and tried again to get a leaf from a tree to stick to his body just with chakra. He was in a lotus position, and while he tried and concentrated, something was pulling his consciousness to another place. Naruto felt that something was weird. He didn't feel the sun anymore; the leaf he just tried to stick on his body with his chakra wasn't there anymore, and the ground beneath him wasn't the forest ground. He immediately felt the hard ground beneath his body and opened his eyes.
…
"Huh?" He was in some sewers. The wall, the ground, and the ceiling were all made of steel or metal. Naruto stood up and realized that there was water on the ground. The entire floor was flooded, and even when the water didn't reach his feet, it was still weird that such a place existed. The next question was how he ended up here and where the fuck he was. He was in the sewers of Konoha already, but those looked completely different than the sewers he was in right now.
Naruto looked and walked around the corridor he was in right now. A few pipes came out of the walls and ran along the ceiling before they vanished into the ceiling. Some were larger, while others were smaller. It was really weird. There were many smaller corridors beside the "main" corridor Naruto was in right now, as he would put it, since the corridor he was in was larger than the smaller ones.
Naruto saw the end of the main corridor in the distance. It looked like the main corridor would end in some huge hall. When he came out of the main corridor, he entered a huge hall with pipes running along the ceiling and walls. He had wide eyes when he saw two giant cell doors. Two giant metal doors, like from a cell, were at the end of the huge hall.
He walked towards the "cell" and didn't see anything behind it. The cell was empty, but what caught his attention was the piece of paper on the lock of the giant cell door. It had the Kanji for Seal on it. He narrowed his eyes when he saw that. This wasn't normal, and when he felt something around his feet, he looked down. His eyes widened when he saw how blue chakra traveled along the ground in the water. He knew this chakra very well since it was his own. He could feel it very clearly now. He sensed his chakra all around him.
'Where the fuck am I?' He looked at the water on the ground and afterward at the cell door where the seal was placed. He remembered something about a person called Jinchūriki in a book he read about the Uzumaki clan.
Since Uzumaki clan members had such a strong life force and chakra, they were the perfect Jinchūriki, even when Naruto didn't know what that meant. Those Jinchūriki could enter their mind to talk with the beast that was inside of them. He didn't know what kind of beast the book meant since it was never really mentioned, but he got a certain feeling and didn't like it.
Was Naruto one of those Jinchūriki, and was he inside his mind? But wouldn't that mean that some beast had to be inside his mind? Was the cell for that purpose in his mind with the seal on the lock? Shouldn't a beast be inside that cell when Naruto would really be a Jinchūriki?
He didn't know, but he would find out when he got out of there. He closed his eyes and tried to escape the sewers. Naruto's body vanished from the sewers, and when he opened his eyes again, he was in the forest again.
He looked down and raised his hand from his leg. He looked at his open palm and thought about what had just happened. 'Was that just a dream? No, that can't be.' He shook his head and took the leaf that fell from his body while he was in his mind. He continued training since he had a few hours left today to train his chakra control and taijutsu.
After Naruto asked Iruka for another scroll about the basic academy taijutsu style since he lost his old one somewhere, Iruka gave him another one with some scolding to be more careful. It wasn't that kind of scolding he received from the villagers.
It was that scolding a student got from a teacher when he did something wrong or failed in some regard. It was a normal reaction from Iruka since it was his job to educate the children in his class, and without punishment in the form of a little scolding for something like that, the students would never learn from their mistakes.
Naruto's day had always been the same since he began to take everything seriously a month after his discovery. He would go to the academy to study everything he learned there, including sealing jutsu. After the academy, he would use the rest of the day to train his chakra control and taijutsu in the forest near his apartment complex.
After 3 hours of chakra control training, he stood up and stretched. He only made minor progress and would still need a few weeks before he mastered the leaf-sticking exercise. But because of his never-ending work ethic, he would master it sooner or later.
Naruto started by going down on the ground and doing push-ups. Since he always had high stamina and high-speed regeneration, he was sure to improve his physical abilities quickly. Besides his goal of becoming a master in sealing jutsu, he also wanted to become the best student, at least on the male side of his class. On the girl side, it would always be Satsuki Uchiha. He was sure of it, but becoming the number one boy in the class was a goal he could accomplish.
With that thought, he began the intense workout routine he had established over the last weeks. He only trained with his own body, not with extra weight like some shinobi liked to do. Besides the fact that he was still an 8-year-old boy and it would hinder his growth when he used weights, he wanted to train with his own body and nothing else regarding physical exercise.
After finishing his strength training, he would begin his taijutsu training at a rock he found in the forest. The basic academy style had this name for a reason. This taijutsu style taught the student every basic, like how to throw a perfect punch, block, kick, and position your feet in some situations and other essential things. But having this basic knowledge was a must for every shinobi. When a shinobi didn't even know how to throw a punch correctly, much power would be lost since it mattered how to execute the punch.
Naruto wanted to master the basics as much as possible. The basics weren't basics for a reason. Someone who mastered the basics could defeat someone who learned some advanced techniques when he couldn't use these advanced techniques properly in a fight.
The academy had just ended the following day, and Naruto didn't know if he had made a mistake by asking Iruka about the thing about Jinchūriki. After every student left the class, Naruto asked his Sensei about his experience from yesterday. Since Iruka always helped him and never looked at him with those hateful eyes, he decided to trust Iruka somehow, and he told him what he knew about the topic and if it was all true.
Iruka looked pretty shocked. Like he already knew that fact, and it wasn't planned for Naruto to discover that information. He narrowed his eyes when Iruka took a deep breath before he said, "Let's go to the Hokage. I am not allowed to explain this to you."
It wasn't long before Naruto stood in the third Hokage's office with Iruka at his side. Iruka explained everything to the third Hokage and left afterward because the Hokage told him to.
Usually, Hiruzen Sarutobi would be sad that Naruto discovered already that he was a Jinchūriki and that he had to explain to him what happened 8 years ago on that fateful night. He would have to lie even more to Naruto since he couldn't tell Naruto who his parents were just yet. He wasn't sure if Naruto would tell everybody that he was the son of Minato Namikaze, the fourth Hokage.
But hearing Naruto say there was no "beast" inside the cell he found inside his mind was pretty troubling. It would have been normal if Naruto told Iruka that he discovered that the Nine-Tails was sealed inside his mind, but inside the seal was nothing when it was true what Naruto said.
"Naruto, are you sure there was nothing inside of the cell you found?" Hiruzen's voice was as serious as it could get. This could mean many things, and nothing good for the village. Had Minato failed to seal the Nine-Tails inside of Naruto, or had the Nine-Tails somehow escaped his prison? He didn't know and had to call his student back to Konoha.
Naruto remained silent and said nothing. He clenched his fist when Hiruzen looked so serious at him. "Are you serious?" Naruto couldn't contain his anger right now. The third Hokage never answered Naruto's questions about the ones he wanted to know, but now he had to respond immediately. What a freaking joke.
"You look at me like I have discovered something I shouldn't have. Has this something to do with one of my questions you never answered? You always said, "I will explain everything when you are older." Has this something to do with one of those questions?" He was beyond pissed right now, and he wasn't hiding it.
Hiruzen was a bit taken aback by Naruto's outburst. He saw how angry Naruto was right now. The betrayal in his eyes, the anger, the sadness… just everything was like a massive slap in the face of the wise old man. Not that he would say that about himself. He never thought that he was wise. If he had been wise, he could have stopped Orochimaru from leaving the village or Minato and his wife from dying at the hands of the Nine-Tails.
He closed his eyes and nodded. "Yes." He opened his eyes and saw that Naruto's body relaxed a bit. It seemed like Naruto could tell that Hiruzen was honest with him right now. "I will tell you now what it means to be a Jinchūriki and what that has to do with one of your questions I always avoided until today."
Naruto sat on a chair in front of the desk before listening to Hiruzen's explanation. "To begin everything, I must tell you something about Tailed Beasts." Hiruzen took his pipe into his mouth and puffed on it before blowing the smoke into his office.
"Tailed beasts are massive constructs of chakra. There are nine of them, and every single one can destroy entire cities or mountains with just one attack. They are beings completely out of chakra and can't be killed. They are spread across entire elemental nations. One of those Tailed Beasts lived in the fire country."
"The Nine-Tails was the Tailed Beast that lived near Konoha."
Naruto's eyes went wide when he understood what a tailed beast was. The Nine-Tails attacked Konoha 8 years ago and was defeated by the fourth Hokage. The fourth Hokage was a legend and one of the greatest heroes the village ever had.
"Have you understood everything so far?" After Naruto nodded, Hiruzen continued after he puffed his pipe once. "When the Nine-Tails attacked the village, many Shinobi and citizens lost their lives. The village would have been eradicated if it weren't for the fourth Hokage."
'A Tailed Beast is really that strong?' Even though he knew it was most likely true, Naruto couldn't quite believe that. The fourth Hokage was said to be the strongest Hokage in history. His speed and knowledge of Sealing Jutsu were unmatched. Even when Naruto didn't believe the latter part of the rumors since he knew the Uzumaki clan was better than the fourth Hokage, he was sure of it.
But still, could a Tailed Beast really destroy an entire ninja village like Konoha when a single Shinobi could defeat him? He wasn't sure about that one.
"You remember how I explained to you that a Tailed Beast is a huge mass of chakra, right?"
"Yes." Naruto calmed down while Hiruzen explained everything. Everything so far had been logical, and he believed Hiruzen was honest with him right now. His rage wasn't completely gone but didn't cloud Naruto's mind.
"Something like that can't be killed." Naruto's eyes widened when he heard the words from Hiruzen's mouth. "The fourth didn't kill the Nine-Tails how it was told everyone." Hiruzen sighed before he said the following words. "He had to seal the Nine-Tails into a newborn baby; otherwise, he couldn't stop the Nine-Tails from destroying the entire village. This was the only possibility."
"Wait, wait, wait, wait! Does that mean a Jinchūriki is?"
"Yes. A Jinchūriki is a human with a Tailed Beast sealed inside of his body."
"And I was the newborn baby, right?"
"Yes. You were the chosen baby where the fourth Hokage sealed the Nine-Tailes inside."
Naruto couldn't believe it. The monster who attacked the village eight years ago and killed many people in the village got sealed inside of him. He knew now why everyone hated him, ignored him, kicked him out of the stores, etc. Everyone thought he was the Nine-Tails since the beast was sealed inside him.
Hiruzen remained silent and observed Naruto. Naruto looked at the ground, completely shocked about what he had just heard. He gave Naruto the time he needed to work through all this information. Hiruzen already discovered Naruto's change in the last month. Something changed inside of Naruto Uzumaki that no one could explain.
He became calmer and more reversed. He didn't prank someone or try to be the center of attention, among all the other things that changed inside Naruto.
After 5 minutes, Naruto raised his head and looked at Hiruzen. "Why didn't you tell me this earlier? I always wanted to know why everyone hated me! I just wanted the truth, but you never told me anything! Was it that bad to tell me the truth?" He had tears in his eyes while he looked at the third Hokage.
Hiruzen felt like an invisible spear pierced his heart when he saw the tears in Naruto's eyes. "I can endure any truth! I endured all this hate from the villagers because they thought I was the Nine-Tails! If I had known, I could have handled it better! I wouldn't have felt like my entire existence was completely meaningless!" Naruto almost screamed from frustration at the old man.
Naruto's eyes were closed while he let go of his pent-up emotions. He couldn't take it anymore. He had to say those things right now, and Hiruzen let him do it without interfering. "I wanted to die so many times but never gave up because I thought there had to be something!"
Naruto took a deep breath and opened his eyes. He wiped away the tears in his eyes and looked at Hiruzen. "There really wasn't anything behind the seal, I discovered inside my mind. The Nine-Tails isn't inside of my body anymore."
Hiruzen expected many things but not that answer. "You told me the truth and explained why everyone hates me." Naruto looked Hiruzen straight in the eyes and said, "This was the answer you wanted to know. I don't know why or how, but the Nine-Tails isn't inside of me anymore. There was really nothing in the cell where the Nine-Tails should be. Not even a single trace of his existence remained."
"I am sorry, Naruto. I couldn't protect you like I wished I could. I never wanted it to come this far, but it happened. I didn't tell you to this point because I thought it would be for the best. You are only eight years old, and I hoped you would have a normal childhood even when the chances weren't high." Hiruzen sighed and closed his eyes.
"I appreciate your honesty, but this doesn't change the fact that my entire life was hell, lord third. I can't trust you anymore like I used to. You were like a grandfather to me, but that changed after thousands of times of becoming no answer to my questions." Naruto wanted to trust Hiruzen because he had helped him in many ways. Hiruzen showed him a shop where he didn't get kicked out, and through that, he could go grocery shopping with normal prices and not overcharged prices like in all the other shops where he went before. But he couldn't trust him anymore after everything he had discovered and heard from him.
If he had known everything earlier, he could have reacted differently. Naruto stood up and said, "Thank you for your time, lord third. I need to go train." Hiruzen said nothing while Naruto left his office. He sighed and leaned back, massaging his temples.
He was too old for this job. Why couldn't he have died eight years ago? Naruto would have never been an orphan, and he would have had a normal childhood. He would even be famous in the village because he would be known as the son of the fourth Hokage.
Nonetheless, Hiruzen had to do something. So, he became serious again and said, "Weasel."
An Anbu with a weasel mask and long black hair appeared before the desk. "Yes, lord Hokage?"
Hiruzen knew that the Anbu probably had other thoughts, but he was sure this could help her come up with other thoughts. The situation with the Uchiha clan got more extreme daily, and Hiruzen was still trying to find a solution. The Anbu in front of him was directly between the two fronts. She was the agent of the village inside of the clan. This was Izumi Uchiha, a genius only once in a generation.
"Follow Naruto Uzumaki and make sure nothing happens to him. You know what to do." Izumi had heard everything from the conversation between Hiruzen and Naruto. It wasn't like Hiruzen didn't put a silence seal around the office, and Izumi spied on them. Hiruzen didn't give Izumi the command to vanish on purpose since he had a guess and reacted accordingly.
"As you wish, lord Hokage." Izumi Uchiha, Satsuki Uchiha's older sister, vanished in a puff of smoke and followed Naruto Uzumaki.
Hiruzen stood up and looked up towards the stone face of Minato Namikaze. 'I'm sorry, Minato. I failed you more than once, and I can't fix my mistakes from the past. But I will protect your son, no matter what.'
He took a scroll and began writing a message for one of his students. It was time for one of the legendary Sanin to return to the village. Only his former student could look into the problem with Naruto. Why weren't the Nine-Tails inside Naruto, and why could he escape or disappear from the seal?
