She rose her eyes to the sky. The moonlight shined through the clouds, giving her enough clarity to denote the shadows moving down the streets. Of course, she didn't need to see to know what was ahead of her because she could hear the mute growling the beasts were making.

She gulped, resting her head in the wall, closing her eyes and wishing she wasn't there, all alone against death itself. She recalled a time when things were better, where she could count on her lovely family, on her dead friends…

She had to suddenly get out of her short lived trance as one of the beasts made its way up the street, slowly approaching her position. She frowned, tightening the grip on her flail. The memories of better times once again flooded her mind, making her grit her teeth. She remembered all the times she trained beyond exhaustion to be a perfect combatant, to be the perfect warrior and protector that her friends could rely on. She remembered all the good moments and memories that she shared with her friends and family.

-Groargh!

She didn't waste any more time, striking the beast's head with her flail, plunging her weapon deep into its skull. Blood splattered the alley and herself, while small shards of skin and flesh made a mess on her weapon. The beast's corpse dropped into the alley, and she quickly took its legs and dragged it all the way to her position. She could not let one of them notice that anomaly in the small town.

She glanced her weapon, all filthy and with cartilages hanging from it. A heaved sigh was her response, holding back herself from puking.

-Just my luck…

She peeked again the avenue to be sure that the beasts were away.

-If I´m fast enough, I could reach the other sidewalk- She frowned and prepared herself. A quick peep at the beasts and their far enough distance gave her the confidence to sprint across the street, covered by the moonlight. She smiled with relief, hiding behind a car. She pulled a map and a small piece of paper out of her backpack.

-Great, from the convenience store, I must now go to the right and then find the grey building- She raised an eyebrow, reading back and forth the instructions she had received. She took a quick glance to her surroundings, most buildings being grey- Awesome…

She exhaled and carried on her mission. First was a turn to the right. She noticed that the new street had significantly less beasts roaming around. Her eyes soon locked upon a building down the street. She moved quickly and with precision, trying her best to not startle the dormant beasts. Her guess was on point as soon as she saw the Overwatch logo on the entry of the building.

-These warehouses have been abandoned and forgotten for a while now- She walked to the back alley of the deposit, facing and forcing the door - With some luck, I'll find what I'm after-

-I have my eye on you…

She froze all her movements, petrified, creped out of how clear she heard that whisper. She listened closely, hearing murmurs on the other side of the room. She gulped, frowning; gathering the courage to face whatever was waiting for her on the other side of that door.

She forced her way inside the building, her brown eyes instantly engulfed and blinded by a dark void. The whispers ceased and a profound, almost haunting silence ruled the place. When she recovered her sight, the scarce moonlight that passed through the windows gave her enough visibility to barely guide herself through the warehouse, but the shadows enveloping her made her uncomfortable, tense. She breathed in deeply, remembering her mental training, exhaling heavily and hissing with her tongue.

-Lets wrap this up.

She used a flashlight and made her way through the deposit. She found a locked room which caught her attention.

-Found the door… Now, where's this panel?- At first glance, she didn't found any panel. She once again tried to forced the lock and enter the new area. However the door didn't give in. A little bit anxious, she looked for a way to sneak into the room, but that didn't seem viable.

She sighed.

-Well, I think-

She noticed a small panel on the side of the door, half blocked by a couple of cardboard boxes. She rolled her eyes, removing the objects. She was left somewhat surprised as the device was still operational.

-Identify yourself- A monotonous, robotic command. She gulped, closing her eyes.

-Agent Brigitte, Task Force Overwatch.

-Identity confirmed, welcome back, Brigitte.

Hearing those words made Brigitte almost shed a tear. The door opened, so she had to contain herself from crying and she had to do what had to be done. She made her way inside the room and glanced around the place before locking her brown eyes in a medium size cooler. She used her flail to get rid of the padlock, soon discovering the insides of the machine. Her eyes shined brightly, as a hopeful grin appeared on her lips.

-Yes!- She remembered where she was, calming herself down but maintaining that positive energy- Yes. We finally got it- She grabbed a small tube filled with something that she could otherwise not identify if it weren't for the fact that she had seen it many, many times before- After all this time- She grabbed the other three tubes in the cooler, storing all four in her bag- Now with Ana´s sleep dart, we may have an actual chance.

Her enthusiasm, however, died as fast as it manifested when she remembered what her next step was. She sighed.

-There's truly nothing good in this world- She took a short peep to the cooler's insides, frowning- But I will fix it, papa…

She reached for her bag, soon grabbing an echo-locator. She prayed a little, closing her eyes and hoping that the plan worked. She stared a few lethargic second to the device in her hands, knowing fully well what pressing the button would entail.

-For all of you, friends.

She pressed the button, immediately storing the device in her pack and started to run as fast as she could. She followed the route she had taken to get there, soon leaving the warehouse and stepping in the alleyway. The drooling beasts roaming the streets were nothing to be scared of anymore, because-

-Brigitte!

-No…

They were there. And they were far more dangerous. She quickly took cover in a brick wall, feeling her sharp breaths and her heart racing. She peeked the main street, soon confirming her worst fears.

Five of them, to be precise.

She slowly made her way through the dark, avoiding any trace of light to not be spotted. However, she soon realized her strategy wasn't going to work. She hid on another large warehouse, sighing with exasperation.

-Why did everything had to fall apart?- She peeped again, seeing the five figures down the street, outstanding and outshining all around them, just like back then- Why did you had to be infected?- Her eyes locked on the aforementioned individual, frowning as she saw the grotesque grin she had- You were one of the best persons I have ever met- Brigitte felt her stomach ache and her heart sink. A sudden wrath, anger, sadness took hold of her being- Damn you Talon, damn you Doomfist and, above else, damn you Moira- Memories of the uncountable battles that she fought together with Overwatch and the whole world flooded her mind. Everyone tried to fight back. Even Talon themselves joined the fight, but it was all in vain- How could we fight you, the fastest person in the world, when you didn´t care anymore?- She glanced at one of the other figures in place- All hope was lost when our angel was struck down and infected… Now we have these abominations roaming the world- She started to walk away, soon joggling and then running- But I will make this right. After 15 long years, I will finally make this right.

-There's no escape, Brigitte.

She frowned, knowing that they were now roaming close to her. She had already lost count of how many times she had heard the same phrase from them. She took a short glance to her objective, hissing before leaving it on the ground.

-Were you really a part of Overwatch while being this much of a coward, Brigitte?

She didn't let them get through her. She was already costumed to their mind games.

-This things keep trying to push me to the same abysm they reside- She huffed, rolling her eyes and preparing an echo locator that couldn't be traced by any other device other than humanity's last hope- It's tiresome…

-You have no one to rally behind, Brigitte.

She finished her objective. One part of her wanted to undo all of her recent work and take that dammed object and rush to her extraction point…

She smiled bitterly, knowing well that wasn't possible anymore.

-You're alive only because we wanted some entertainment, Brigitte.

-I agree. It has been really fun seeing Brigitte try desperately to save lives, just to fail miserably every single time.

That comment hurt her soul, remembering all the times where she failed. Every time she tried to help, she only doomed the people she tried to help.

-I know damn well you have kept me alive to amuse yourselves- She smiled bitterly- But now, you will regret that dearly.

-Thought I would consider hiding like a rat a not so worthy life, right?

She huffed.

-It's only because I can't kill you that you're still bringing misery to this planet- She whispered, sighing lethargically before taking a last glance at her mission- I hope this is worth it…

-I agree. Your father gave his life for you, Brigitte.

The aforementioned frowned.

-For what reason our dear Lindholm gave his life?

-Was his intention to save his daughter who then kept running and hiding like a rat, a mole?

She prepared her flail and checked her shield.

-At least your brothers and sister gave us a fight before, you know…

Brigitte turned her attention to the door she had used to enter.

-You have been living a life without honor all this time, Brigitte.

She started to walk to the door, before joggling and then running.

-Are you ready to have an inglorious death?

She bashed the door right open, noticing how one of them was already lurking in front of her. A bionic grenade immediately was thrown, but Brigitte was quicker and with her shield deflected the grenade. She then used her flail to make Ana back up.

-I can still reach you!- As soon as she had the path clear, she rushed to the main street, following by memory the route to the point of extraction.

-Brigitte!

She took a quick glance to the sky, noticing how Genji was dropping from one of the rooms. His face was unmasked and smile full of blood greeted her. She, however, returned the gesture with a bash from her shield and using her flail to launch him to the side.

-Thank god you are less skillful and much slower than the real you…

Her reasoning was cut short as she realized the big shield blocking her path. She frowned and felt uneasy, knowing fully well who was behind that shield.

-Come here, Brigitte.

She hissed with her tongue and made a quick turn to the other side.

-Heroes always die…

She heard in the most grotesque imitation she had ever heard. She was a couple of building away from her extraction point, but suddenly someone pushed her. She fell and felt her bones creak and her muscles numb. The roadway was cold, harsh on her skin. She smiled defeated, tasting the dust on her mouth.

-Damn you

When she turned her face around, she kneeled down and they both faced each other.

-Lena

-My dear Brigitte- Her skin was pale, almost purple, dry and rugged in some places. Her eyes had no spark on them, her generally voluptuous and messy hair was now stiff, dragged- You are getting slower my love- The aforementioned just frowned.

-I hoped the last time was our final encounter- The woman with the shield made herself more confortable- I guess I'm out of luck.

-You always fall for the same trick, darling. It's rather comical.

-...

-Truth is, this was long overdue. You're far to naive, darling.

Brigitte noticed how everyone else started to approach then. She shredded in fear, hopeless as she saw what were once Genji and Ana in the rooftop at her right side, Mercy on the left side of Tracer and, most hurting of them all, the face on an undead Reinhardt.

-We're waiting for you, Brigitte- The undead smiled disturbingly- Welcome back to the family.

-My family died long ago and was replaced by abominations.

-What do you even mean, Brigitte? They are more happy now than ever! Hannah, Lucio, Zarya, Cassidy, Mei. One by one, I opened their eyes and shared my wisdown. They now live happily with me!

-No one could ever live happy being your slave...

-But they are! Overwatch is now more than ever a happy family... Well, almost all of Overwatch- Tracer smiled sligthly- There's but one person still missing... I must say, it's rather dissapointing that you're what remains of the old Overwatch.

-Overwatch will never die- She looked at all of the empty husks manipulated by her- I'll avenge you all, believe me!- Brigitte turned her eyes back to Tracer- You were one of the best. You were one of our strongest- Lena just grinned with amusement, making Brigitte´s blood boil with rage- You were my friend!

-… I was… But now, thanks to Talon, my mind has been freed of those contradictory and unproductive thoughts. My mind hasn't been this clear since I first watched the flow of time. I just wanted to share this knowledge and vision with all of the world- Tracer closed the distance on Brigitte, who gritted her teeth with both anger and fear- No one came to save poor little Lena, so I saved everyone.

-… I know you are there, Lena.

-There's no one here but ourselves, Brigitte.

-Winston worked day and night to find you, Lena. He-

-Don't you dare mention that name- Brigitte, for the first time, could grin with arrogance.

-Wow, Did I press a sensible nerve?

-… He ran away like a coward back to the moon with what remained of humanity. We will eventually find a way to reach himNow, be a good girl and tell us where your cans of tins friends have been hiding. I have an appointment with Mr. Death himself.

-I will never say it.

-Well, we will just play with you until you come around.

-No… This time is different- Brigitte smiled with a combination of anxiety, happiness and sadness. Her eyes shed a tear- This time; we will do this my way- She took a button from her pocket- You said I was getting slower. Let me introduce you the reason why- Tracer tried to quickly disarm her, but her right arm didn´t move, surprising her-Hejdå världen!

A large explosion detonated from Brigitte´s backpack, making all of them either run away quickly or face tank it with Reinhardt's shield. The entire street was engulfed with a ravenous fire which consumed all the beasts in the area.

Tracer first observed her "injured" companions, with Mercy treating Genji and Ana checking on Reinhardt. She then turned her attention to the sky andjust observed the ashes falling from it. She hissed her tongue, annoyed.

-Farewell, Brigitte.

The streets were clear for both of them to cross. The aftermath of what it looked like a giant explosion was notorious in both the roadway and in the buildings. They located the epicenter of the explosion, spotting ashes.

-In the end, no one escapes death.

-Indeed, it's something every single living being must face.

-Hmm… What a shame.

They both continued their path, soon reaching the point of origin. He used his metallic arm to grab the package. When opened, he discovered a bottle with the substance they were looking for.

-You got it, monk?

-Yes.

-Report it back to the base and let's leave this place. Death is near.

He turned on a device in what his lap. A few seconds passed by.

-Hello.

-I greet you, brother.

-Brother- A short pause with some static- Are you well?

-I am, brother.

-And the other one?

-Watch your tongue, tin can.

-Pity… You found the objective, brother?

-Yes. Brigitte completed her objective flawlessly it seems.

-Such a shame that a kind human like her had to be the one to open the vault.

-Sometimes, options are made of sacrifices. She accepted her duty just like her father and friends would… and did.

-Any signs of her?- They both looked at each other for a second.

-No. I believe she decided to go with plan B.

-… Her sacrifice will make us stronger, brother. With that bottle, we can finally turn the tide.

-Don´t underestimate them.

-Hmp… Nevertheless, you should get back… The annoying individual still tries to interview me…

-On our way, brother.

Missed me? Silicio, back on track!
