Chapter 1

A/N: This takes place in an AU so some things won't totally line up with what happens in the books. Also this is a Dramoine fic with mentions of abuse and Ron bashing so read with caution if you don't like that. Enjoy :)

After the sorting ceremony, Hermione and Draco were pulled aside from the other students who returned for their final year at Hogwarts.

McGonagall began to speak, "I want to congratulate you both on becoming Head Boy and Head Girl. As such, you'll look over the prefects and will be in charge of assigning patrol duty. Now if you'll follow me, I'll show you two to your dormitory."

"Wait," Hermione said, "Dormitory? As in…we're in the same one?"

"Yes, of course. You're head boy and girl. You get your own bedrooms and you'll share a bathroom and a common room. Now come along."

Now it was Draco's turn to interject, "No one told us that. If I had known-"

"If you had known, you wouldn't have accepted your position as Head Boy Mr. Malfoy? Really, aren't you both too old for this rivalry?"

The two looked away from each other and the professor sighed. "Have it your way. Let's go."

They followed her to what was to be their new home for the year. Hermione was of course not thrilled about the arrangement. However, she knew Malfoy was even less so.

She settled into her new room and then waited for Malfoy in the common room. When he came out he looked at her confused, "What?"

"Patrol Malfoy. We haven't assigned the prefects to it yet so we have to do it." She reminded him.

He rolled his eyes, following her out, "Fine. Let's split up, we'll be done faster that way."

She turned on him in the corridor, "We're supposed to stick together Malfoy."

"I know you have a crush on me or something and want to be around me, but you could stop acting so desperate," Malfoy smirked.

Hermione's nostrils flared, "Why, you insufferable little…"

She was still huffing when they reached a fork in the corridor. Draco paused, "You go left, I'll go right. We'll meet back here in 30 minutes."

Hermione shook her head, realizing she wouldn't win this one. Fine. She'd split up. Just this once though. She began walking left down the corridor, listening to Draco's footsteps recede until she couldn't hear them anymore.

It was quite boring patrolling, as all she did was wander the halls on the lookout for students out of bed. She looked forward to passing off this duty to the prefects.

As she passed an empty classroom, she could've sworn she saw movement inside. Her heart started beating faster in her chest. The door creaks open and she knows she shouldn't do it, but she steps in to look quickly.

As soon as she enters, a hand wraps around her arm and she's shoved into the wall. Suddenly there are hands in her hair and lips are pressed against hers. She pushes back and the panic she had felt vanishes, "Oh my god, Ron? What the hell? You scared me."

"Sorry Mione. I just wanted to surprise you. I haven't gotten to spend time with you alone since we got back today." Ron explains, still leaning over her against the wall.

She smiles politely, "Okay. Well, don't do that again, please. I didn't like it. And I'm patrolling right now, but we can talk tomorrow okay?"

Ron's fist slams into the wall a few inches from her face. Hermione's eyes go wide and her heart jumps into her throat, pounding so fast she thinks her veins will explode.

Ron snarls, "Sorry I'm such an awful boyfriend Hermione. I'm really just the worst for wanting to see you, aren't I?"

Hermione takes a deep breath, "That's not what I said Ron. I'm working right now. We'll talk tomorrow when you've calmed down."

She looks away from him, leaving no room for further discussion. He scoffs and storms off. As soon as he leaves, Hermione slides down the wall until she hits the floor, breathing heavily.

She had never seen Ron angry like that. His fist was so close to her face. Stop that, she told herself, Ron would never hit you. He loves her, he does. He was just upset, having an off day. Besides he didn't even hit her, he only hit the wall. She was overreacting. She'd see him tomorrow and he'd apologize and everything would be fine.

She stared off into the dimly lit classroom, the only light from the full moon outside the windows. She couldn't seem to get herself off the floor.

She didn't know how many minutes passed before a deep voice brought her back to reality, "Lazing about, are you?"

Her head snapped to the doorway where a certain tall blonde stood against the frame. "You were supposed to meet me 20 minutes ago."

She stands up, wiping her shaky hands on her skirt, "Right sorry. Just sat down for a bit and lost track of time."

He rolled his eyes as they walked back to the dorm together quietly.
