Chapter 4

May tells Ash about their monent in Lake Valor

"All it takes time and little bit of a push after all. But hopefully, he doesn't stay oblivious to her feelings for him forever and lose his nerve. Knowing Paul he'll probably make a mistake and miscalculate certain things. I know where he's at, I've been there for a long time after all. Took the better part of a year to notice the little hints you were throwing my way, and another year and half to figure out my own feelings!" Ash sighed once again messing his hair.

May kissed his cheek, "Now, now. The important thing is that you noticed and eventually did something about it. Those sweet moments in Sinnoh were some of the greatest times of my life, it made me sad to say goodbye again."

Sinnoh Region

Valor Lakefront

Day faded into night as the Semi Final of the Wallace Cup reached it's end. The late afternoon rays touched the balcony of the room shared by the three Coordinators. May Maple stood watching the rays of the setting sun shine upon the lake, smiling wistfully as her thoughts ran in her mind. Seeing Ash again was the highlight of her stay in Sinnoh, traveling with Harley and Solidad was fun and all but she missed the moments she could have with her old traveling company. Harley and Solidad were really supportive and caring rivals/friends, while Drew... well, there weren't really any kind words to be said about the green haired Coordinator. The guy could easily be May's biggest enemy!

She was shocked out of her reverie when she saw Ash flying through the skies on Charizard, she grinned nostalgically as she fondly remembered doing the same thing with him back in Hoenn after the Lilycove Contest. He must've seen her because he landed on the ledge of the balcony and hopped off of the Orange fire dragon. He smiled as he looked into her eyes, those shining Sapphires that looked more enchanting then the evening sky.

"Good Evening May. What are you doing out here?" Greets Ash as he stood beside her.

May shook her head smiling, "Good evening. Nothing much just thinking about things really. How about you? Why are you still up?"

"I was trying to sleep actually but I couldn't stop thinking about my last battle with Paul. He really handed it to me, it made me question the way I train my Pokemon." Ash says his head down.

May couldn't stop the shock that went through her, his new rival must really be a tough one. Brock and Dawn had told her about a purple haired boy who mistreated his Pokemon, trained them into oblivion. She knew about Chimchar of course and she felt incredibly angered at how cold hearted the young man was! And now here was Ash questioning his training methods. She couldn't let this stand and from the looks of it neither was Charizard. The flying fire lizard might have given his trainer a hard time when he evolved from a Charmeleon into his current form but he knew that Ash was the most compassionate and hard working trainer out there, and he could not allow his trainer and friend to beat himself like this. He had met Chimchar earlier and sympathized with the chimp, knowing what it was like to be abused by shit trainers, also sharing his past with Ash to Ash's new team. He thought that Donphan would have loved to meet Gible as well.

"Char. Char. Charizard!" The lizard spoke trying to get Ash out of his funk.

May smiled petting the Mon, "He is right you know. Paul is a jerk and after what he did to Chimchar he should eat his words. Maybe you can sick Charizard on him when you battle each other again."

Ash had looked up when Charizard spoke, then once again gazed into May's eyes. He smiled at how she could turn his mood around, none of his other friends could affect him the way she can. Her aura was one of compassion and encouragement, it was bright and warm. She knew him better then anyone, even Brock didn't know as much about him as she did. There was never a dull moment with her around.

"Thanks for that you two. And thank you for the sound advice May, maybe I will mix up my teams throughout my journey here. My new Pokemon could learn some things from my old ones, they could learn some new things themselves." Ash says patting the Mon's snout and giving May a bright smile.

May smiled gently, "No problem Ash. Besides I know you can beat Paul, even before you face each other in the league. You'll figure something out eventually! You always do."

"Mm. Mind taking a ride around Lake Valor with me?" He says look into her eyes again a soft smile upon his face.

She felt her heart skip a beat at his gaze. His countenance seemed to change in her eyes, her thoughts going back to the times he gave her the same look. She had never seen him give anyone else that look but her. She knew then that he returned her feelings, of course she had known this since their adventures to the Sea Temple.

She took the he offered and said, "I'd love to."

Off they flew into the skies above the sparkling lake waters. The moon being their spotlight, she had not known of his plans by the lakeside. He wanted to surprise her with a picnic he had prepared for them, lit by a bonfire to keep warm from the cool night air that would be surrounding the area within moments of their arrival. May for her part, felt a pleasant warmth in her stomach at the scene laying before her. She never thought Ash was the romanic type of guy, but here they were in the most romantic scene she'd ever lied eyes on.

"Oh Ash!" She whispered to him in joyous surprise.

He landed Charizard nearby and helped May down, he gave her one of his lopsided grins. She internally swooned looking into his bright brown eyes, that smile made her knees weak. She'd always had this feeling that Ash returned her feelings, she'd had this suspicion since that time at the Sea Temple when he almost lost his life saving her, Pikachu, and Manaphy.

Ash softly said, "I was thinking we could have a picnic together. Remember when we started our trek to Pedalburg?"

"Yes, of course it was after you saved me from the wild Poochyena and their mother. Before Brock joined us." May tells as he walked them to the table.

Ash smiled feeling slightly nostalgic, "We had to camp out a bit before we reached Pedalburg. In the Woods, we barely had any food left. Then you found a bush of Berries, a few sticks and made these..."

Ash waved his hand a plate filled with berry Kebabs! May gasped not believing that he had remembered the food that she had made during their trek to Pedalburg. She felt elated by this, the was one of the fondest memories she had.

"You remembered?" She asked in surprise her voice soft.

He smiled gently taking her hand in his, "Of course. Those were the fondest memories I've had in my journey at the time. And they still are. My time in Hoenn was my favorite, because I got to meet you."

"Oh Ash." She swooned placing her arms around his neck bringing him into a hug.

He reciprocates the gesture placing his head on top of hers, "I'm glad you like it."

"I love this Ash! This is the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me." She tells him giving a him a quick peck on the cheek.

They settled down beside each other, he offered her one of the Berry Kebabs before getting one for himself. They roasted it lightly in the bonfire and slowly ate their sticks. The pair conversed and laughed as they ate, sharing their journeys so far. Then the subject of a certain green haired Coordinator came up.

Ash looked at her, "So... what's Drew been up to?"

"Oh..." She responds feeling slightly unnerved by the question but also felt warm at his concern.

He took her hand in his squeezing it reassuringly, "You don't have to tell me if you aren't ready May."

"I want to tell you. I've been wanting to tell you since I left Jonto. I just didn't want to do it over the video phone." She explained softly.

He pulled her closer rubbing her shoulder, "It's alright take your time. We've got all night to talk after all, don't rush into it."

"Thank you Ash." She whispers kissing his cheek.

He smiled kissing the top of her head, "No problem."

She began recounting her moments with Drew, how the man would complement her looks one moment only to degrade her prowess as a Coordinator later on. She told him about how the other boy almost got to her again, luckily her Glaceon froze the ass with a well placed Ice Beam. Ash almost exploded hearing yet another assault on her, only to be calmed down by the fact that her Pokemon had protected her. She then told him about how the green haired Coordinator had been forcing her to go on a date with him, again Ash's temper spiked at this hearing how the other boy had basically dragged her to a secluded corner and manhandled her into a date with him. He reminded himself to thank Solidad and Harley for watching over her during these trying times. By the time May finished she had crawled into his lap seeking further comfort.

He tightens his hold on her, "Don't worry about that May, he won't be after you again. And if he does come after you again please don't hesitate to call me alright. I'm always here to listen and talk. If I ever see him again I'll bash his face ."

"Mm, though I'd find you beating him satisfying I also don't like you to get in trouble for it." She says feeling his aura flare out in his anger and willingness to protect her.

He chuckled at this, "I guess you are right. But Officer Jenny would believe us over Drew any day. I've seen him on the news a couple of times, he's been caught assaulting other women as well. I don't understand how other girls would be fooled into his whims."

"Some are shallow enough to fall for his charms and looks I guess. I was like that for awhile back when we first met him. He gave me roses left and right, I found it sweet at first but then I realized that was his ploy from the beginning thanks to Brock and Solidad. Harley found out what his plan was and told me about it when I saw him again in Kanto." She explains scowling at how naive she was back in her early days.

He rubbed her back hearing her sigh into his shoulder, "Now I know you can handle yourself, I don't think I would've left you to travel on your own otherwise. You're a smart girl, not to mention breathtakingly beautiful. I just don't like the idea of you getting hurt."

She smiled into his shirt and thought, "This is why I fell for him in the first place. Oh, Ash. You're my Guardian, and the love of my life. I've now realized that you return my feelings."

Suddenly he pulled away from their embrace, causing her to open her eyes. His warm brown eyes met her wondering Sapphires ones. And something clicked between them, as if the stars had finally alined in the universe. He brought his hand to her cheek brushing the soft skin with his fingers tenderly, their foreheads came together never breaking the other's gaze.

He spoke his voice barely above a whisper, "May..."

"Ash..." She responds in a similar tone.

Suddenly a gush of warm wind went through the area causing the pair looked up to a big bird with rainbow colored wings and tail feathers pass above them, gracing the two with it's mystical beauty. Ash smiled fondly, seeing the surprise in May's eyes, this was probably the first time she saw Ho-Ho.

"Was that..." Her voice trailed off in wonder at the sight of the magnetic legendary bird from Jonto.

Ash nods his head, "That was Ho-Ho. Mm, I never thought I'd see him here in Sinnoh though."

"I recall you mentioning that you saw him when you started your journey in Kanto." She says looking into his eyes.

He grins remembering the first time he lied eyes on the legendary, "Yeah. At the time no one had ever seen him, he hardly appears to anybody. It always made me wonder why he appeared during my first Journey. But it is said that he grants good fortune to those who have seen him."

"You don't think..." She trails off not warning to appear too hopeful.

He smiled bringing their foreheads together once more, "I think there is hope for us. And one day we're going to look back at this moment and thank Ho-Ho for appearing here to bless our growing bond."

"I-I like the sound of that." She says smiling.

Silence reigned between the once more, the calmness of the passing hour lulling them both to slumber. Ash being sensible enough at the moment rose, pulling her along with him. She leaned into his shoulder, feeling drowsy.

He smiled slowly walking to Charizard who gave his trainer a thumbs up, "Come on. Let's head back, it's getting late we don't want you waking late tomorrow, do we?"

"I wouldn't want to miss my battle with Dawn. You've taught her well, you know." She tells him with a smile.

He chuckles feeling her squeese his torso, "I guess I have a talent for mentoring new trainers. I never thought I'd be mentor for someone else, not after the many pitfalls I had when I started out. But I guess experience really did make me grow up before I went to Hoenn."

"I would have been a complete mess without you those first few days we spent in the Woods. You really did help out so much back then, the way you would train with me for my contest even if it ate into your time training for gym battles. Even Brock said he was surprised by how you were willing to curb your time for me." She tells him.

He was thankful that she couldn't see his flushed face, "Well, I enjoyed helping you train for your contests. And I learned a lot from training with you, it also helped grow as trainer. Some of the techniques I use now are ones from I honed from my time training with you May."

"That's really sweet of you." She says smiling to herself.

They landed on the balcony, he helped her down before dismounting again. She took him in her arms holding onto him tightly, smiling into his shoulder.

"Thank you so much for tonight Ash! You don't know how much that meant so much to me." She tells him.

He smiled to himself, "Oh, I think I have an idea. Reliving that moment reminded me so much of our time together in Hoenn, the moments that counted the most."

She pulled away slightly so that she could look into his eyes, hers shining in the light of the moon. She reached up to kiss his cheek, and he kissed her nose in return.

"Until the time is right." He whispers with that lopsided smile.

She giggles nodding, "Until the time is right."

"G'night princess." He says lifting her hand and pressing a farewell kiss upon it

She blushes slightly at the action, "Good night My Guardian."

He grins mounting his Charizard as she goes inside the room, he gives one last wave before he flies off and she closes the door both feeling happy and full of love for the other.

"One day..." Was their last thought before a deep sleep took them into the the land of dreams.

What did you all think? Too sappy? Haha, I was feeling extra fluffy today. I was drinking some hot chocolate when I wrote this so all the sweetness might have poured into this chapter a little too much. Ash showing his sweet side to May, being less dense about her feelings towards him. The end was intentional, as it had a deeper meaning as to why they aren't together yet.

Warning! The next chapter will feature sexual harassment, I apologize in advance if there are some triggering scenes for some readers. You are free to skip the parts that might disturb you in any way.

The little tidbit about them eat berry kebabs while camping out in Pedalburg Woods was inspired from a fic titled "Friends to Lovers" by HeroxParnerfan96 chack this out if you haven't read it yet everyone. It's a great Advanced shipping fic.

Once again, any suggestions for the future chapter of any of the Poke Fics I am working on are welcome! Don't be afraid to drop them in comments or DM them to me. Thank you for your support everyone!
