The Chase
He hurried along the road, chasing after Argue-Man. Jammies Jake takes rocks to fire at the fiend, and Pajama Sam is careful to keep them on the streets.
Argue-Man cackled wildly and took out a ray gun. He fiddled with it for a moment before firing it. He zapped the ground in front of the two heroes, and a gaping hole opened, damaging the whole street that appeared before them. Pajama Sam stopped, and Argue-Man flew off from Jammie Jake's slingshot.
The two heroes looked at the hole.
Pajama Sam asked, "How will we approach a pit like this?"
Jammies Jake pulled out a little dictionary and answered, "Maybe my special vocabulary power can help us!"
Pajama Sam asked, "How exactly?"
Jammies Jake explained, "If I read a word out loud correctly, the object appears!"
Pajama Sam said, "Oh, let's try it!"
Jammies Jake flipped open to a specific page and slowly read aloud, "Br-i-dge."
Suddenly, a bridge appeared over the hole.
"Nice work," Pajama Sam said, "Jammies, Jake!"
The two continued down the street but didn't know where to go next with Argue-Man out of sight.
Jammies Jake asked, "What are we going to do now?"
Pajama Sam hopped off the Pajama Scooter and looked around; he spotted a shadowy corner that looked a bit darker than it should be.
"I'll ask my good friend Darkness if he saw anything," Pajama Sam said, "Come on, I'll introduce you!"
Jammies Jake was confused as he got off the bike, "Your friend Darkness?"
Pajama Sam picked up a quilt piece and quipped, "Found one!"
Pajama Sam spoke to the ink blackness, "Hey, Darkness, did you see a little man with a big mouth in a tuxedo go by?"
Jammies Jake was genuinely startled when Darkness replied, "I might have, but my memories are fuzzy. You'll have to play a game of Cheese and Crackers to get that information out of me."
Darkness then noticed Jammie's Jake and asked, "But who is this?"
Pajama Sam explained, "Darkness, Jammies, Jake. Jammies Jake, Darkness."
Jammies Jake gave a polite wave.
Darkness asked, "Have you ever played Cheese and Crackers before?"
Jammies Jake said, "Yes, I think so."
Darkness said, "Then we can just play."
He set up a three-by-three board and a cracker in the top left-most square. Pajama Sam put a piece of Cheese in the top middle. Darkness set a cracker in the middle-left square. Jammies Jake put a piece of Cheese in the bottom left square. Darkness put a cracker on the top right square. Pajama Sam put a piece of Cheese in the middle of the board square. Darkness set a cracker. Jake set a piece of Cheese in the bottom right square and Jammies in the middle bottom square.
"Guess you two won that round," Darkness said.
They picked up the pieces. Darkness then gave Sam a compass.
Darkness pointed to it and said, "I saw that weirdo head north-east; the red arrow will guide your way."
Jammies Jake picked up a quilt piece and quipped, "Found one!"
Pajama Sam said, "Thanks Darkness!"
Darkness said, "Anytime, Sam!"
The two heroes followed the arrow on the compass to a staircase.
"Hey," Pajama Sam Noted, "My friends Thunder and Lightning live up those stairs. We can visit them at the Worldwide Weather Factory and see if they can help!"
Jammies Jake asked, "How many friends have you made Pajama Sam?"
Pajama Sam momentarily answered, "I'm not entirely sure, to be honest with you."
Jammies Jake mumbled, "I wonder why you didn't try to befriend me."
They hopped off the scooter and upstairs to the Worldwide Weather Factory, where Thunder was already at the front gate.
Thunder said, "Well, hello, Sam, I see you've brought a friend."
The two of them quickly corrected, "We are not friends!"
Jammies Jake introduced himself, "Hi, I'm Jammies Jake!"
"Nice to meet you," Thunder said, "I'm sorry to say, Sam, but the Worldwide Weather Factory is under some remodeling. It's going to be just sunny for a few weeks."
Sam replied, "That's okay; you guys work hard to keep the weather right."
Jammies Jake muttered, "How would you know that?"
Sam asked, "But Where's Lighting?"
Thunder sighed, "Well, that Argue-Man character came whizzing by and zapped us with something he calls the Rival-Maker 5000. Lighting has been in a bad mood ever since."
Jammies Jake noted, "That must be what he'll use on our moms to break their friendship!"
Pajama Sam gasped, "Oh dear!"
Thunder asked, shocked, "That awful villain had kidnaped Your Mothers?"
Jammies Jake replied, "Yeah, we were hoping you saw what direction he went in."
Thunder replied, pointing at the compass, "Northeast, but it's hazardous for two little boys to go up against such a big bad."
Jammies Jake enthusiastically said, "Yeah, that's so fun about it."
Pajama Sam asked, "Is there any way we can cheer up Lightning?"
Thunder thought for a moment.
Jammies Jake asked, "Why are you helping these guys? Aren't we on a time crunch?"
Pajama Sam replied, "Pajama Sam always helps those in need. Besides, we need practice to help our moms remember that their friends!"
Thunder said, "Well, one thing Lighting likes is lilac. But since the plant growing machine is shut down for remodeling, you'll have to go into town to get some."
Pajama Sam asked, "Is there any way you can help us get there?"
Thunder answered, "Oh, for sure! Here, take this."
She pulled out a small cloud magnet and gave it to Pajama Sam.
Thunder explained, "With this, your scooter should be able to fly like a cloud!'
Pajama Sam thanked Thunder, and the two boys returned to the scooter.
Jammies Jake picked up a quilt piece and quipped, "Found one!"
The two boys hopped on the scooter, and Sam put the magnet on the handlebar pole. The scooter lifted off the ground, and the two boys whizzed to the nearest floral shop.
Jammies Jake noted, "Hey, I know this Place! My friend Grover works here!"
They landed and went inside to see an older adult behind the counter.
Jammies Jake said, "Hey, Grover!"
Grover answered, "Hello, Jake!"
Jammies Jake asked, "What are your pronouns today?"
Grover answered, "They/Them if you please!"
Pajama Sam asked, "So, sir or uh, ma'am."
Grover chuckled, "Call me Lieutenant!"
"Lieutenant Grover," Pajama Sam said with a salute.
Grover said, also with a salute, "At ease, soldier."
Pajama Sam put his hand down.
Grover asked, "What can I do for you boys?"
Jammies Jake said, "We need some lilacs."
Grover asked, "For what exactly?"
Pajama Sam answered, "My friends Thunder and Lightning aren't getting along. We're hoping that some Lilacs will help Lightning feel better so they can be friends again."
Grover raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why doesn't Thunder get the Lilac then if it's so important to Lighting?"
Pajama Sam answered, "She's very busy with the Worldwide Weather Factory. Especially now that it's getting a remodel."
Grover said, "Okay."
They gave Jammies Jake five lilacs. The two boys returned to the Worldwide Weather Factory. Lighting was waiting for them; she had tears in her eyes.
"These are for you," Jammies Jake said, handing Lighting the lilacs, "Courtesy of Thunder."
Lighting sniffled, drying her tears, and whimpered, "Thank you."
Then, the boys used their newfound flight abilities to fly after Argue-Man.
