One night at the Castle Town, the Festival of the Sun was being held with fireworks fired up towards the night sky. A large boat came in with Princess Elise on board, waving to the cheering crowds. Once the boat docks at a large platform overlooked by a large cauldron, she stepped off, walking towards a statue. One of the hooded figures then brought in a torch and bestowed it to Elise while she looked at it. After a few seconds of staring at the flame, she visualized a large blast of fire engulfing Soleanna and her floating into the air as she noticed Iblis in the distance emerging from a large crater as it gave a ferocious roar before being snapped back to reality.
"Miss Elise." Elise's lady-in-waiting said.
"It... It's alright. We give thanks for the blessed flames. May we always continue to have peace. Sun of Soleanna, guide and watch over us with your eternal light..." Elise said and lit a flame with the torch that ignited a frame surrounding a pedestal and finally the large cauldron itself.
Everyone applauded while more fireworks were launched into the sky. No one noticed several missiles streaking out of the sky among the fireworks until it was too late. The missiles landed and impact several buildings around Castle Town, causing everyone to instantly go from celebrating to panicking as they realized Soleanna was under attack. Elise yelped in shock upon witnessing the carnage to her kingdom. The Egg Carrier then flies over the cauldron and drops off Egg Gunners around her and the other figures with her. As they were about to attack, Eggman appeared in his Egg Mobile. The Egg Gunners to the sides glance over as he prepared to confront the Soleanna sovereign.
"A pleasure to meet you at last, Princess of Soleanna. I am Dr. Eggman. I've come here to obtain the secret of the Flames of Disaster from you." Eggman said then pointed to the blue Chaos Emerald that Elise clutched in her hand and pressed tightly against her chest in terrified fear. "And to take the miracle gems that are the keys to its secret... The Chaos Emerald! Now Princess, this way please." he said and pointed towards his direction and Elise began stepping back in fear.
Within a few seconds, blue hurls began appearing circling around in the air, blowing up the robes of the bishop and robed figures with Elise. Elise looked around puzzled before her attention was drawn to a protruding piece of debris as Sonic came to a stop on it.
"My... That's a pretty snazzy performance there." Sonic said.
"You..." Elise said and saw Silver the Hedgehog in Sonic's place. "It can't be?"
Sonic smiled and attacked the Egg Gunners, dispatching them all. The last one she stunned with the energy from her earlier attack as it dispeled over it before she simply nudged it to tip over and off its perch. Then she ran back over next to Elise.
"I'm Sonic. Sonic The Hedgehog!" she said and scooped up Elise in her arms and ran off.
"Not that irritating hedgehog again! Attack!" Eggman said and the Egg Gunners began firing missiles at Sonic as she ran away.
Elise cried out in fright when some impact dangerously close to Sonic as they caused further damage to Castle Town. However, Sonic was able to make it to the rooftops and escape. Silver stood over a roof looking towards Sonic.
"I finally found her... the Iblis Trigger!" he said and clenched his hand into a fist knowing what his objective was now.
Later Sonic was running through the town with Elise in her arms.
"Umm... Why are you helping me?" Elise asked.
"No special reason." Sonic said and jumped over a canal.
"Sonic!"
More of Eggman's Egg Gunners blocked Sonic's path so Sonic put Elise down and destroyed them. However, she barely had a chance to catch her breath before she heard Elise scream and saw Eggman grabbing her with his Egg Mobile while her back was turned.
"I'm afraid our little game ends now." Eggman said.
Elise wriggled an arm free.
"Sonic, take this!" she said and threw the blue Chaos Emerald to Sonic and she caught it.
"I've got it! And don't worry, I'll rescue you!" Sonic said.
"I know."
Eggman scoffed.
"It's only a matter of time before it's mine. Until then, you can hold onto it for me!" he said and fled with Elise into the Egg Carrier and left Soleanna while Sonic watched it depart.
Later Sonic was running through Castle Town during the day when she heard Tails calling her name and stopped.
"Sonic!" Tails said.
"Tails! Long time no see!" Sonic said.
"I'm glad that you're here. I heard that you tried to save the Princess from Dr. Eggman. You're going to rescue her, aren't you? Let me help. I may not know what Eggman's up to, but it can't be a good thing!"
"OK! With your help, this should be a piece of cake." she said and ran off.
"Heh heh. I'll do my best!" he said and followed her.
Later at Wave Ocean the Egg Carrier flew away as Sonic and Tails watched it. Then a feather fell down from the sky and Sonic picked it up.
"It looks like the Princess was moved to another location." Tails said and walked around Sonic, while Sonic looked at a feather. "Let's head back to the city!" he said and left.
Sonic clutched the feather and followed.
At Dusty Desert Elise was sitting in a chamber of ancient ruins. Then she got a thought that she remembered from the past.
"You're a good girl, Elise. Remember, be brave. Don't cry no matter what happens." Duke said.
Then Sonic and Tails broke into the room and Sonic came in and Tails waved his hand.
"Mr. Sonic!" Elise said.
"Just call me Sonic." Sonic said and Elise hugged her. "Now then, are you OK?"
"I-I'm so glad that you came..."
"I always keep my word."
"Sonic!" Tails said.
Then they turned their attention to the Egg Cerberus sealed in a caged and it started opening its mouth as Eggman appeared.
"It looks like a pesky rat has stuck its nose where it doesn't belong. Well, a hedgehog to be more precise... The Princess is mine until I unlock the secret of the Flames of Disaster." he said.
"Tails!" Sonic said.
"Got it! Let's go!" Tails said. In the sunset of Dusty Desert, a large hoard of Egg Gunner robots, led by a trio of Egg Stingers were flying towards somewhere, possibly towards Sonic, Tails, and Elise.
"How long is this going to go on?" Sonic asked.
"Let's split up. I'll get their attention, and you take the Princess." Tails said and she nodded and turned her head towards him.
"OK. You be careful, Tails." she said.
"Leave it to me!" he said then flew off and Sonic held Elise.
"Hold on tight!"
"Ok!" Elise said and Sonic ran off with her.
Later Sonic ran as she held Elise through some plains and ran up a hill. As she reached towards a peak, she then stopped and placed Elise down. Once she stood up on her own, she bowed to Sonic in gratitude.
"I have no words to express how grateful I am for your help..." She said and noticed Sonic having a cut in his arm. "You're hurt!"
"It's nothing." Sonic said and checked her arm for any injury.
"Don't say that." Elise said then used some fabrics as a bandage to cover the injury. "I'm sorry. It's all my fault..."
"Smile." Sonic said then waved her finger and a butterfly flew towards her nose and Elise smiled then lightly flicked the butterfly and it flew away. "Your smile... That's all I need."
Then Sonic walked along the hill and Elise followed her.
"Eggman mentioned the Flames of Disaster. Is that why he's after you?" Sonic said.
"Yes. The name of the sun god our country honors is Solaris…" Elise said and saw a flashback of the festival. "It is told that Solaris's rage would destroy the world." she said and then saw Iblis from before. "His wrath comes in the form of the Flames of Disaster." she said "10 years ago, we almost faced the full force of his fury... I was a child then, so I don't remember it very well. I lost my father then..." she said and say Eggman looking over his shoulder and appeared. "And now that man is trying to cause the same disaster again..." she said and was back with the sky and ground around them. "What can I do?" she asked then Sonic grabbed her hand and ran together. "Sonic? Sonic! Sonic, wait! I can't run that fast!"
"Don't worry. Just raise your head and run!" Sonic said and they kept running and were somewhere else. "Feels great, doesn't it?"
"Yes. I-I've never run so fast before..."
"Nothing starts until you take action. If you have time to worry, then run!" Sonic said and grabbed Elise's hand.
Soon they were walking in Soleanna and they suddenly stopped. Sonic noticed an attack coming towards them and, grabbing Elise, jumped to avoid it. Elise cried out as the attack exploded harmlessly where they were. The source of the attack soon descended to confront them.
"I've been looking for you. You're the Iblis Trigger. Your actions will condemn us all." Silver said.
"Who are you?" Sonic asked.
"My name is Silver. For the future of the world, I will destroy you!"
'Oh for God's sake!' she thought and got ready.
After the fight Silver was weak and Elise was looking at him.
"Hey." Sonic said.
Then Silver psycho-kinetically attacked her, knocking her towards a building where and slammed hard against the stone and fell down to the ground on her knees after hitting it. Elise looked on with worry as Sonic tried to catch her breath as Silver approached, her.
He dropped down to the ground and looked at them, then pointed a finger at her.
"Hmph! Is this a joke? How could someone like you cause the destruction of our world?" he asked.
Elise looked as giant mechanical hands approached from behind her to grab her.
"What do you...mean?" Sonic asked.
Silver got up.
"It doesn't matter. For the sake of the future, the Iblis Trigger must be destroyed!" he said.
He was about to destroy her when Elise's scream was heard, and both looked at her being grabbed by Eggman's Egg Mobile as it flew off.
"Elise!? Wait!" Sonic said and tried going after her but Silver hit her with a psychokinetic blast again in the back, knocking her down.
"Don't you dare turn your back on me! It's time I finally put an end to this!" he said about to finish her off when Amy arrived.
"Stop!" she said then appeared and guarded Sonic out of harm's way.
"Amy?" Sonic said.
"Get out of my way, Amy! This is my mission!" Silver said furiously.
Amy shook her head.
"Absolutely not!" she said.
Silver's patience was starting to run thin as Sonic got up.
Silver grunted in frustration and Sonic stood up.
"Thanks Amy. I appreciate it." she said and ran off to chase Elise.
"Leave it to me." Amy said still in Silver's way in Soleanna as Sonic kept running to catch up to Eggman and Elise.
Later Sonic and Tails arrived at a seaport in New City and encountered Knuckles who was holding a card.
"Knuckles." Sonic said.
"I saw Eggman on the outskirts of the city." Knuckles said and threw the card to her. "He wanted to give this to you." he said and she looked at the card and a holographic message from Eggman showed up.
"Sonic the Hedgehog. If you want me to return the Princess, you must give me your Chaos Emerald. Meet me at my base in White Acropolis." Eggman said and the recording ended and Sonic handed the card back to Knuckles, who fumbled it before dropping it and stomping on it with his shoe.
"Huh. He's pretty cocky." Knuckles said and crushed the card. "Maybe even more than the begging." he said and they snickered.
"It's most definitely a trap. I don't think Eggman will honor his agreement." Tails said.
Then Sonic looked at her Chaos Emerald.
"I'm going." she said.
"Sonic?"
"Since Eggman went to the trouble of telling me where Elise is. I think I should thank him personally."
Sure enough Team Sonicarrived at Eggman's base in White Acropolis.
"You're late." Eggman said looking down at them from an upper viewing area.
"Well, we had to deal with your little pets." Knuckles said.
"Where's Elise?" Sonic asked.
"My, aren't we impatient..." Eggman said then grabbed Elise and was holding her by his side.
"Sonic!" Elise said and Team Sonic got ready to fight.
"Ah ah. You better not move. Now, the Chaos Emerald..." Eggman said and Sonic took it out. "Place it there." he said and pointed to a capsule that rose from the ground while Elise shook her head and Sonic placed the Emerald in the capsule and it receded back into the ground. Eggman smiled wickedly then pressed a button on a control panel next to him. "Hmph!"
Then a pink force field generated from the ceiling, surrounding Team Sonic.
"Huh!? Wha-!?" Tails said.
"Wha!?" Knuckles said then tried punching the field but got knocked back.
"It's no use. It's too powerful for you to overcome. Now allow me to introduce you to my latest creation. This is the Solaris prototype." Eggman said and Elise gasped while he laughed and pulled a handle on a nearby control podium. "With this machine, I'll be able to control the flow of time itself!" he said and they were sucked upwards by the machine.
"Whooah!" Sonic said.
"Ahhhhh!" Tails said.
"Arrrrrhhhh!" Knuckles said and the force field disappeared along with them.
Elise leaned against the window in despair at what she just witnessed.
"Rest assured... They're not dead... yet. They've just been teleported by my glorious invention to another time. Who knows where they'll end up? It could be the distant past or far future. But my machine still requires some fine-tuning. In fact, what my machine needs in order to be complete, is your power." Eggman said.
"My power?" Elise said.
"Yes, I can finally complete my plans... Now that I have the Chaos Emeralds, and you... The Princess of Soleanna. That's all I need to revive the Flames of Disaster. And with its power, I will be able to control everything and rule the world. So, you would be wise to remain on my "good" side." he said then walked off to her.
She put her hands together to pray as she looked skyward.
At a ruined future of the same location, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles fell down from the machine in the top of the room. Sonic landed on her feet, Tails landed on his rump, and Knuckles landed on his head.
"Boy, do I feel dizzy..." Tails said and looked around. "Where are we?"
Then someone approached them from a higher ledge.
"Oh, look who's here! I didn't expect to see you guys." someone said and they looked up and saw Shadow and Rouge.
"Rouge! Shadow!" Tails said.
"Hi. Long time no see!" Rouge said.
Later at Crisis City they looked over the destroyed city.
"This is the distant future, far removed from our own timeline." Shadow said.
"The future? Then that means Eggman's machine can control time!" Tails said.
"Eggman's got some nerve dropping us here." Sonic said then Knuckles kicked a rock.
"Now. How can we get back to our own time?" Knuckles said.
"You need a space-time rift, but this requires a lot of energy." Shadow said.
"I see. You mean using your Chaos Control will..." Sonic said.
"Yes, but that alone is insufficient."
"Okay Shadow. It looks like we need to work together."
Shadow nodded and Rouge did as well in agreement that, for the time being, Team Sonic and Team Dark would have to work together to return to the present.
Soon Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles were wondering about in a corridor of a ruined building.
"No matter where we go, all we see are ruins. How can this be our future?" Knuckles said and they turned to look at their surroundings.
"How could it come to this?" Tails asked.
Then Sonic noticed gas flowing from a room slightly opened with various noticed and warnings on the door. Then they turned to have a peak inside to discover what's happening within.
"Could it be true?" Silver asked Mephiles and they saw Silver, and Blaze standing in front of a large database computer. "If I eliminate that guy, will our world be saved?"
Mephiles nodded.
"The Day of Disaster... Here are my records of this event. This was when Iblis was freed and his flames were released into the world." he said then pressed a key and the screen displayed screenshots from the present timeline. "And you have this person to blame."
Then he held his purple Chaos Emerald out. Silver took a hold of it and stared at it. Then a stream of fire surrounding Sonic as she turned with a stern look on her face.
"I see it! So, That blue hedgehog's the Iblis Trigger?" Silver said.
"Blue hedgehog..." Blaze said.
"I'll send us back in time to the point when the Iblis Trigger was alive." Mephiles said and formed a purple orb in his hands that expanded, covering them along with him and then disappeared out of sight.
Then Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles approached towards the computer.
"What the... Who was that guy? He looked just like Shadow..." Knuckles said.
"Th-This is terrible!" Tails said and typed on the keys. "According to the data, the Princess died when she was kidnapped by Eggman! Apparently Eggman's battleship exploded!" he said and types on the keys. "The date of this incident was... two days after the Festival of the Sun!"
"If we don't return in time, Elise will die onboard Eggman's battleship. That means..." Sonic started.
"Yeah... I think so." he said and she punched her hands together in frustration while he typed on the keys.
Later that night Shadow and Rouge met with Sonic, Tails and Knuckles at Flame Core.
"You guys are so slow. Look." Rouge said and showed the green Chaos Emerald.
"A Chaos Emerald! You've already found one!" Tails said.
"Well now... I may not look It, but I'm a real treasure hunter. Unlike a certain echidna I know."
Knuckles got up in Rouge's face.
"What?" he said then scoffed and walked away
"Have you guys discovered anything?" Shadow asked.
"Um, yeah." Tails said. "I received a signal indicating there's a Chaos Emerald here, but..." he said and pointed into the distance.
"You mean we've got to go through there?" Rouge asked.
Knuckles got up in Rouge's face again.
"If you don't like it, you can stay here." he said.
"You've got to be kidding!" she said and he walked away.
Sonic pointed at Shadow.
"Don't be late." she said.
"Same to you." Shadow said and walked away.
Then they ran away.
At a volcanic pool, Rouge flew away from Sonic, Shadow, Tails and Knuckles up to the cyan Chaos Emerald floating in the air.
Iblis now at phase 2 sprung out of the lava. Rouge flew back to the group, Shadow rushing in front of them. Iblis looked down at them as lava and flames continued splashing around him.
"What? What's this?" Rouge asked.
Iblis swung at the group, hissing and snarling viciously.
After defeating Iblis, Sonic and Shadow faced each other with Knuckles, Tails and Rouge behind them. Then Sonic and Shadow nodded at each other, pulled out the Emeralds, nodded at each other and crossed them.
"Chaos Control!" they said and the Emeralds began flashing rapidly and emit a white swirling light into the air that transforms into a blue swirling portal suspended in mid-air.
Sonic proceeded towards the portal while Tails and Knuckles followed. Rouge flew into the air and turned to Shadow then flew to the portal while Shadow turned around, sensing something giving him pause to return to the present with Rouge.
Meanwhile Soon came out through it before disappearing.
"Oww..." Tails said.
"Looks like we make it back in one piece." Knuckles said.
"Where did Shadow and Rouge go? Did they appear someplace else?"
"Those two can take care of themselves." Sonic said and saw a newspaper lying on the ground and proceeded reading it while Tails and Knuckles moved towards he to read it as well.
Later Sonic had just rescued Elise from the exploding Radical Train and ran from the railroad tracks with her.
"I knew it. I knew you'd return! You had to!" Elise said.
All of a sudden a psychokinetic blast attacked them and Sonic jumped backward. Then she sets her down again and they saw Silver in front of them again.
"...You again." Sonic said.
"This time there will be no more interruptions!" Silver said and pointed at her. "The Iblis Trigger... must die!"
"Sonic..." Elise said.
Silver used a psychokinetic blast knocking Sonic onto the floor. Then he trapped her with Psychoshock, draining her energy, and Elise kept trying to hold back tears.
"So how was your little walk, Princess?" Eggman asked and the Egg Mobile appeared and grabbed her with its two hands before flying away.
Elise cried out in fear as she's grabbed.
"Elise!" Sonic said.
Silver used another Psychoshock to stun her and gave a "hmph".
"It's time to end this!" he said.
He was about to finish her off when Shadow dropped down in front of him in the nick of time.
"Who?" Silver said surprised and they looked at each other. "Mephiles! Why are you getting in my way?"
Shadow got up.
"I'm Shadow. Shadow the Hedgehog." he said.
Both look at each other in confusion, and Shadow looked at the recovering Sonic, who gave a nod and thumb up to him for saving her life. Then she got up and ran off to find Elise and Eggman while Shadow delt with Silver, and both prepare to fight.
The Egg Mobile flew overhead above some plains and Elise was standing on the edge.
"Now stop it. You have no where to go." Eggman said.
"I would rather die than be your prisoner again!" Elise said.
"Hmph! So, what are you going to do, Princess? Do you plan to jump?"
Below on the ground, Sonic was running towards the Egg Mobile.
"Farewell." Else said then leaned back and fell off the Egg Mobile, leaving Eggman stunned.
"Huh?" he said.
Then Sonic caught Elise in her arms, arriving just in time to catch her before she hit the ground.
"Sonic!" Elise said.
Eggman growled.
"You won't get away that easily!" he said.
At the Forest, Sonic walked while holding Elise's hand. Elise stopped to catch her breath.
"That was a gutsy move back there!" Sonic said.
"Well, I was desperate... and um... I just had to get away. I owe you a lot, Sonic..." Elise said.
"Uh..." Sonic said then turned to see a large hoard of Egg Gunners flying towards her direction. "I'll head into the jungle!"
"OK!"
Then Sonic carried Elise in her arms and took off.
Soon they were deep within the Forest, Sonic, with Elise in her arms, ran through the lush jungle.
"It looks like we've lost them." Elise said.
"I'll settle things here. Elise, you should go back to the castle." Sonic said.
"OK..." Elise said and Sonic made a turn to the right. "Sonic?" she said and they stopped by a lake surrounded by green grass and numerous trees. "It's so beautiful! I've never seen so many flowers before! Sonic, have you visited many wonderful places before?"
"Yeah."
"Once you defeat Eggman... you'll leave, won't you?" Elise said and Sonic nodded. "Though I've been frightened many times, I've also enjoyed this adventure. It allowed me to be something other than a Princess. I was able to be myself... a girl."
"It sounds like being a Princess isn't that easy."
"It isn't sometimes, but I love this country. Everyone in the castle, the children, all my citizens really... The same love my late father and mother had..."
The Duke of Soleanna was sitting on a chair gently stroking a younger Elise's forehead.
"Don't cry, Elise. Become a strong queen who doesn't cry no matter what happens." he said and the flashback endded.
"And so, I do my best to protect my country. I understand everything my parents said to me now. Sonic, if you leave here to go on another adventure... Remember this place."
"Definitely." Sonic said and Elise suddenly strayed away for a few minutes. "Elise?"
"I'm fine... Sorry."
'I mustn't cry... I can't...' she thought and quickly hugged Sonic before seeming she was about to cry.
"Elise... smile."
At Soleanna, a Soleanna Royal Guard was conversing with two citizens. A shadow of the Egg Carrier was seen and the three turned to look at the Egg Carrier flying above the city. Citizens began to panic as Eggman made his announcement.
"Princess Elise, ruler of Soleanna... By refusing to negotiate with me, you have forced me to take drastic actions." he said and Amy was in the crowd witnessing the Egg Carrier before turning to run away. "Meet me at the specified point alone 4 o'clock today. Failure to do so on time, will result in my leveling of this city so that nothing but ashes remain!"
Elise stood outside on the balcony of her castle as she listened to this.
"Miss Elise...!" Elise's lady-in waiting 1 said.
"I cannot allow harm to come to my people." Elise said.
As the Egg Carrier flew closer in the background, Elise turned to leave but stopped.
"Miss Elise...!" Elise's lady-in waiting 2 said.
"It is my duty as Princess of Soleanna to go... There is no other choice." she said and kept walking, heading to rendezvous and surrender to Eggman for the sake of her people.
Eggman trapped Elise inside the Egg Carrier and she was sitting on a chair.
"You've wasted so much of my time. If you had cooperated with me earlier, I wouldn't have to do this." Eggman said.
"What are you trying to do, Dr. Eggman? Why do you wish to revive the Flames of Disaster?" Elise asked.
"Did your parents ever disclose to you anything about Solaris? Solaris's secrets are in his eternal flames. His power... can change time, and even manipulate the fabric of time itself. I wish to obtain this power and dominate everything in this world. From the past all the way to the future!"
"You wish... to rule over... Time?"
"Yes. Truly. And the secret... It remains dormant in you, Princess." Eggman said then proceeded to his ship's interface and began inputting commands. "The Princess of Soleanna and the seven Chaos Emeralds... Once I have everything, the fate of the world will change. And one of the beautiful gems is just ahead."
"Chaos Emerald located." Egg Carrier mother computer said.
"Finally... Now, let's go collect that Chaos Emerald."
Meanwhile Sonic ran through the Tropical Jungle when Eggman's mechs arrived to attack her. She slid and saw them, prepared to fight them, and one of them raised a gun to her when all the robots were grabbed by a Psychoshock, and Silver dropped down and used blasts from both hands to knock them all out, causing them to explode on the ground. He then turned to Sonic.
"You look like you're in a hurry." he said.
Sonic crossed her arms.
"...So what's going on?" she asked.
He paused.
"Circumstances have changed." he said and turned to her again. "I need to rescue the Princess."
She nodded in approval, then gave a thumb up and ran off, and Silver followed.
Inside the Egg Carrier, an alarm was going off and Eggman was frantically typing on the keys at his interface while Elise watched.
"Huh? The engines are malfunctioning." Eggman said and Elise stood up. "What's this? Stop all engines now!" he said but got no response and pounded on his interface in frustration and horror. "...Why is this happening? No! We're about to crash!"
A section of the Egg Carrier from outside burst into flames, emitting smoke. Later, the Egg Carrier was seen from Kingdom Valley losing altitude and then exploded into an orange tint behind a mountain as it disappears from view. Sonic arrived at the moment it happened with Silver and Blaze right behind her.
"Elise!" Sonic said in shock then dropped to the ground in despair and slammed her fist in anger and grief.
Silver and Blaze were in mourning for Elise. But then Silver looked up and realized something, then looked at Sonic.
"Wait, there's still a way to change this." he said and Blaze looked at him, and Sonic was recovering from grief and loss and looked at him. "If we return to an earlier point in time, we'll be able to save her."
Sonic recovered and took a look at the hillside where the Egg Carrier crashed, then got up.
"I understand." she said.
Silver held out the white Chaos Emerald, and Sonic held out the turquoise one. Then she walked up to him while Blaze watched. Both of them nodded at each other and held the emeralds aloft.
"Chaos Control!" they said and the light emerged from the emeralds and split up, opening a space-time rift.
They looked at the portal, and Sonic quickly ran and tossed the turquoise emerald to him.
"Silver!" Sonic said and Silver caught the emerald with his left hand. "I can handle this myself. Besides, you've got somewhere to go," she said. "right?"
"You..." Silver said amazed.
"I'll make sure to change Elise's fate." she said then raised a fist and looked at him before continuing. "And that in turn should change your future, too."
Silver, with a Chaos Emerald in each hand, nodded in agreement as Blaze put her hands on her hips in wonder.
Sonic gave a thumb up.
"Thank you, Silver!" she said.
"Yeah... Just save her." Silver said so she nodded and jumped into the rift.
Silver and Blaze turned and nodded at each other, then jumped into the portal one by one.
Meanwhile a blue swirling portal appeared at Soleanna New City and Sonic came out of it then heard a bell ringing and looked at a clock tower, reading noon. She quickly regrouped with Tails and Knuckles and headed for the Egg Carrier's hangar in Aquatic Base.
"Thrust increasing. Engine output at maximum. Course plotted." Egg Carrier mother computer said and the Egg Carrier started preparing to depart from Aquatic Base. "Gate open. Lifting off."
Red machines holding the Egg Carrier in place detached and receded into the walls. The Egg Carrier proceeded taking off. Just then, Sonic ran along a catwalk above the Egg Carrier and jumped onto the craft, landing just on its metal tail before it could accelerate too much and she missed her chance to board and save Elise and Eggman. The Egg Carrier zoomed off towards its inevitable demise.
Inside the Egg Carrier, events play out like before as an alarm was going off while Eggman was frantically typing at the Egg Carrier's interface, trying to save his doomed ship.
"...Why is this happening? Noooooo!" Eggman said.
"Playtime's over." Sonic said and appeared and Elise ran to her side.
Eggman slowly turned around in half-astonishment, half-fury at seeing Sonic somehow got on the Egg Carrier to save the princess from the ship's inevitable destruction.
"Sonic!" Elise said.
"This ship is about to crash. Too bad, Eggman." Sonic said.
Eggman threw a tantrum and growled in frustration, stomping his foot at the end of it.
"I'm not finished yet!" he said.
Sonic threw her arms out and stood in front of Elise, refusing to let Eggman get near her again and risk her being killed in the Egg Carrier's inevitable crash.
Sure enough Sonic was carrying Elise in her arms as she ran to escape from the ship as alarms continued blaring to order all hands to abandon the doomed vessel. Outside, the front section of the Egg Carrier exploded into flames and broke off.
"Sonic!" Elise said and pointed to burning debris soaring through the air as the Egg Carrier continued falling apart.
"Aren't you worried?" Sonic asked.
"If you have time to worry, then run," right?"
The front section of the Egg Carrier exploded in a huge fireball before it even hit the ocean surface below, sending smaller fragments shooting off in all directions like missiles. Sonic took a running start, leapt off, and jumped from one piece of debris of the Egg Carrier to another. She landed on the wing to jump to a cliff and attempted jumping high into the air, only for them to start falling when gravity took over before reaching the top of the cliff. A large piece of debris of the Egg Carrier's engine collided into the cliff face below and its explosion launched Sonic and Elise up to solid ground as they rolled along the ground before coming to a rest after several tumbles. Sonic recovered with a groan before checking Elise, who rolled over onto her back. Elise lied on the ground while Sonic walked over to her and lend her hand for her to get up. Then they began laughing.
"Nice smile!" Sonic said and Elise turned to look over at the horizon.
Later Mephiles was in a forest and grabbed the purple Chaos Emerald floating in front of him as the background turns black. Then he slowly looked away.
Meanwhile Sonic and Elise were walking through the Forest when they were blinded by the light from the purple Chaos Emerald. Mephiles appeared behind them and impaled Sonic in the back with an energy beam. Elise screamed. Mephiles withdrawer his energy beam and Sonic fell to the ground, dead.
"Sonic! Sonic!" Elise said and shook her while Mephiles laughed with maniacal and sinister delight. "Sonic?" she said and rolled her over.
Then Elise was a seven-year-old holding the blue Chaos Emerald.
"Yes, Elise... Don't cry, no matter what happens." Duke said.
"Oh... no." Elise said and she was back to normal time. "Nooooooooo!" she said and cried and Iblis burst out from her.
"Finally, the seal is broken! At long last, I'll be able to join with you! Iblis! Now, Chaos Emerald! It's time for the final curtain call!" Mephiles said and laughed.
Then he levitated the purple Chaos Emerald into the air.
At Dusty Desert Shadow, Rouge and Omega were finished fighting the Mephiles clones. Shadow was putting back his limiters and about to get the yellow and green Chaos Emerald on the ground when they suddenly emitted a powerful white light, blinding them all.
Later Mephiles was flying the air with the seven Chaos Emeralds supplying him with power. Iblis' flames enveloped him and they remerged, re-creating Solaris. In Castle Town, Tails, Knuckles and Amy were walking through the populated streets when suddenly the white light from Solaris envelops Soleanna and the surrounding areas.
Solaris shined a bright light in the black void and Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Silver, Shadow, Rouge, Omega and Eggman found themselves on a floating fragment of Soleanna.
"What is this?" Tails said.
"Where are we? What's going on?" Amy said.
"Is this because of that light?" Knuckles said.
"The Chaos Emerald has disappeared..." Silver said.
"Silver?" Amy said.
"What are doing here? This is all so confusing..."
"It's all because of Solaris." Rouge said.
"It seems we were all caught by the spatial distortion. Iblis' seal has been broken. Due to Mephiles manipulation." Eggman said.
Then they saw Elise cradling Sonic nearby.
"Sonic?" Amy said.
"No... You don't think..." Tails said.
"Sonic!" Knuckles said.
Amy collapsed and began crying while everyone else was emotionally struck by Sonic's death.
"Mephiles played us all for fools! His plan all along was to cause the Princess to be consumed with despair that she'd cry." Eggman said.
"So that's why he wanted me to kill Sonic before..." Silver said.
Shadow turned away while closing his eyes and crossing his arms.
Meanwhile, Solaris began giving off strange, loud sounds.
"Solaris!" Silver said.
"This creature will consume all existing timelines. And time itself will collapse and disappear into nothingness." Eggman said.
"The instability of time caused this time-space rift." Shadow said.
"It won't remain for much longer."
"We've no time to waste. We've got to defeat it now!" Knuckles said.
"No, it is a transcendent life form that exists in the past, present and future. Defeating it here, now, would do nothing."
"No, I won't give up. There has to be a way. If you say it exists in the past, present and future, I'll destroy them all at once!" Silver said.
"Certainly, it might have been possible, if she was still alive." Shadow said.
"Sonic! Sonic!" Amy said.
While Amy cried and everyone else mourned, a blue wind blew by which Elise felt.
"Sonic..." she said.
"What's the matter?" Silver said.
"I feel... Sonic's presence in the wind. I don't think she's dead yet! I'm sure of it. It's not too late!"
Shadow was shocked but could tell something was different about her.
"Of course! Let's call him back with power of the Chaos Emeralds! Focus your thoughts on using its power to perform this miracle..." he said. "You can do it, Princess!" he said and walked over to her.
"I can?"
"You were the vessel that was used to seal Iblis. You should be able to use the gems' power to rescue Sonic's soul!"
"I'll...Do it!" she said and nodded.
"Solaris flung the Chaos Emeralds to the distant corners of this distorted world." Eggman said and adjusted his glasses into a radar.
"To collect them all in time, we'll have to split up!" Tails said.
"I'll go, too! Because it's for Sonic! So Elise... Watch over her!" Amy said.
Then Shadow, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Silver, Rouge and Omega left in separate directions, leaving Elise with Sonic.
When they found them all they went back to Elise and Sonic lied lifelessly in the center with the seven Chaos Emeralds surrounding her. Shadow, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Silver, Rouge, Omega and Eggman stood on the sidelines while Elise prayed to the Chaos Emeralds.
"Oh Chaos Emeralds, gems of miracles. Please heed my call." she said. "I wish to save this world. I wish to cleanse my father's sin. And, I wish to talk to Sonic... once again!" she said and the Chaos Emeralds started glowing brighter. "You have given me so many things. Now it is my time to return the favor. I care not what happens to me. But please heed my voice. Sonic, come back! To me... To us!" she said and the Chaos Emeralds and still lifeless Sonic started levitating into the air.
Then she kissed her and a bright light whited out the screen. When the light died down, Sonic stood before everyone, revived as Super Sonic. Elise fell into Sonic's arms from exhaustion.
"Thank you, Elise." Super Sonic said.
Everyone was happy at her return. After getting Elise back up, past Super Sonic turned to Shadow and Silver and transformed them into Super Shadow and Super Silver. The trio of super transformed then flew up to combat Solaris.
"We got this guys, we're some of the strongest people here. It's four against one." future Super Sonic said.
They nodded and started.
Super Shadow, Super Silver and Super Sonic tried to go through it.
Finally they were done.
Then Solaris' light orb was giving off bursts of light and everyone was celebrating their victory. As a bright light enveloped everything, a white flame formed in a black void.
Sonic and Elise were floating in a black void.
"Did you destroy it?" Elise asked and a white light appeared.
"...No. That is the true Solaris." past Super Sonic said and they moved into the light.
Then there was a flashback where a young Elise and the Duke of Soleanna watched Solaris' original form, a small white flame, in its casing.
"Look, Elise. This is Solaris, the flame of hope." the duke said.
"It's so beautiful..." Elise said.
"When the flame has grown large enough, our world will change. Solaris will allow us to control time and move through history. People will be able to rectify past mistakes and avoid bitter fate."
"Will we be able to see momma?"
"Yes, Elise. We'll both be able to see your mother once again." the duke said and they left Solaris.
Then it came back to the present where the present Elise and Sonic were approaching Solaris' casing.
"This is where everything began. Who knew such a tiny flame could bring such devastation?" Elise said and took out Solaris and its candleholder. "If we put out this flame, Solaris will never exist, And then we'll never have to worry about the Flames of Disaster, right? But our encounter... You and I will never meet. It will never have happened. I... To tell the truth, I don't care what happens to the world!" she said and cried.
"Elise. Just smile." Sonic said.
Elise smiled and Sonic assured all will be fine. Elise softly blew out Solaris.
Later in the Castle Town the Festival of the Sun was unfolding and Elise was in her boat waving to the audience. As Sonic came running, she noticed Elise and ran by so fast that she created a wind making Elise lose one of the feathers in her hair. Elise stood in awe after feeling the wind.
"Miss Elise?" Lady-in-waiting said.
"It felt like... like someone was calling me." Elise said.
"I'm sure. It's just the wind."
"Of course. But it felt so familiar somehow..." Elise said and continued the festival while Sonic watched from a rooftop.
As Elise's feather flew into the sky, Sonic watched it while smiling fondly.
