Luffy hadn't told his brothers of his new job title, nor did they ask him. Sabo was off on some business trip until tomorrow and Ace had decidedly spent the night with his boyfriend. It let Luffy have the night to himself and a breath of fresh air away from his protective brothers. He loved them, but sometimes they could be a bit much. A night away from them had allowed him to spend some time with his friends, or rather it would have if it hadn't been a Monday night and everyone had already been busy.
Instead, Luffy sat at home alone, with his thoughts. Not that he had many he didn't immediately say, but now no one had been here to hear them. In his time at the company, he couldn't remember how many assistants the CEO had gone through. He had lost count at 7, although everyone he worked with did put in bets for how fast they'd leave. Most weren't longer than a month or two at most. Some were as short as a couple of days. What would his be?
The fighting spirit of proving his co-workers wrong had started to ignite a flame inside of him. He's been through hell and back, an annoying boss couldn't stop him. And who's to say he was truly awful? Maybe these people just never tried to get to know him. Bepo had warned him of the CEO's sick sense of humor before leaving for the day.
Luffy walks into the building in his normal attire and can't help but wonder if maybe he should have put something else on. Although, he didn't want this promotion in the first place, so it doesn't matter what he wore. Shrugging his shoulder as he walks into the elevator to the top floor, there's no need to dwell on useless thoughts. He'd either be gone quickly or be proving the bets wrong. It was rather tempting to cash in on his own undoing though.
As he walks up to the empty desk in front of giant wooden double doors with a nice metal plaque that reads "CEO – Trafalgar Law". He's heard the name before, although couldn't think of where. Despite working here, the name of the big boss was often omitted for the common worker so it hadn't been from the job itself. Even tabloids had theorized about the Owner of the toy factory but they all came up empty.
Luffy doesn't dwell too much on the unknown as he knocks on the door. With a 'come in' he snuck into the room. The office itself was quite neat and professional-looking. Not many decorations and no photos, save for some framed degrees on the wall. The walls were lined with bookshelves as he stepped further in he couldn't help but to think that this office didn't look like it belonged to a Toy Factory.
His eyes finally land on the man behind the desk, still staring at the paperwork in front of him. The slightly messy black hair covering pierced ears and a focused look on the man. "I'm Luffy, you're new assistant as of today," Luffy puts on a large smile while walking closer to the desk, trying to get a better look at his boss.
Law looks up from his work, glancing up and down at Luffy before smirking, "I see you didn't quit right away. The desk outside is yours, do everything I say and we'll get along just fine." With that Law waved his hand towards the door before turning his attention back to his work.
Luffy nods, not pushing the interaction further, closing the doors behind him. The man seemed a bit short, but not unkind. He sat at his new desk, rummaging through the drawers and the desktop as time wore on. There wasn't much for him to do, a couple of printed notes taped here and there to explain things but nothing to entertain him. Even the computer had been a dud for entertainment as the internet seemed to be locked and the only thing he could look at was Law's schedule.
After a couple of hours Luffy was absolutely restless, Law would leave for his meetings and come back without so much a word to him, and all the calls had been directed straight to Law's office. Luffy played with the phone cord, wondering if it was even connected, and there were already notepads full of random doodles. Plainly said, there truly was nothing for Luffy to do. He was so use to being hands-on with testing the toys that just sitting was making him go mad. Maybe everyone quit because there was nothing to do.
Luffy was pacing the room for the 50th time when the phone rings for the first time. "Hello? This is Luffy Speaking," His voice seeming a little too eager while he had practically lunged for the phone. As he sat back down, he realized he hadn't read the card that had been placed right above the phone reading 'Heart Pirate Toy Company, This is the CEO's assistant speaking, how may I help you?'' Luffy thought about reading it now but was interrupted by his boss's voice.
"Luffy-ya, get the reports from Division 2 and deliver them to me. Next time, answer the phone correctly." Law's voice was heavy and dripped with a warning tone that made Luffy shiver slightly. And just as quickly as he had answered the phone, Law had hung up leaving a dull ring of an empty line in his ear.
A little flustered he got up and started walking to where he use to work. That voice made his ears flush slightly but he wouldn't let that bother him. Finally, there was something to do and Luffy was more than happy to get out of there for a couple minutes. "Luffy? What are you doing back down here? Did you quit already? Did you get fire-" Bepo rattled on as Luffy walked through the door.
"The 'big scary boss' wants the reports Bepo. I'm telling you this job is soooo boring, this if the first thing I'm doing all day! And he only talked to me to send me down here! I'd rather be testing toys," Luffy pouts, waving his arms around the air before crossing them, walking to where the finished reports are. Bepo gives him some words of encouragement before bidding him goodbye.
Luffy knocks on the door before coming in, "Here's those reports you asked for boss." He walked to the corner of the desk, placing them down where he thought was appropriate.
"Mr. Trafalgar. You should address me as Mr. Trafalgar," The firm tone and a slight glare making Luffy straighten his back slightly as he tried to swallow the lump in his throat.
"Well, uh, I should really get goin then. You know where I'll be-" He quickly made his way to the door, trying to sneak away quickly before being caught up in the bad mood of his boss.
"Luffy-ya." His hand stopped just before it had reached the door handle and looked over his shoulder at his boss. "Lock the door and stand in front of me." Luffy isn't sure why, but he follows the demands without a second thought. Walking to the front of the desk, he could feel a small pit in his stomach starting to form. He subconsciously takes a single step back before stopping, Law standing up to tower over him, "What's wrong? You seem… Nervous."
Law let the corner of his lip upturn while staring down at the boy. Luffy's heart drops, the first good look he could get at his boss. The man standing tall, his dress shirt slightly un-buttoned and arms rolled up revealing peaks at tattoos on the skin. Luffy wets his dry lips before looking up, "I-uh, I just. Have to go do something real quick." Luffy turns, making quick steps to the door in an attempt to escape. Barely being able to un-lock the door as Law hand slams on the door. Luffy is eye level with the DEATH tattoo sprawled across his fingers and jumps a bit, bumping into his boss behind him.
Luffy feels a hot breathe on his ear before hearing his bosses deep voice, "That's strange… I don't recall having given anything for you to work on. Why not stay here for a while?" Law's hand trails down the door, re-locking it before stepping closer to Luffy. Trapping him against the door as he continues to trail his hand up the younger man's arm.
Luffy's breath hitches as his fingertips ghost up his arms, slightly tracing his neck before venturing down his chest. "W-hat are you doing?" Luffy struggles to try and get away from his boss, stretching his neck in an attempt to make eye contact with the older man.
Law chuckles a bit at the display before taking a step back, both hands in the air in surrender, "Just a joke. You can go home for the day if you'd like."
Luffy's face is flushed as he cautiously looks up at his boss being nodding, rushing out of the room before he can change his mind. He looks back into the room as he shuts the door, seeing a smirk splayed across Law's face. If this was his idea of a joke it's no wonder why his assistants don't last for long.
