A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL

"Sam, are you sure you wanna go and explore this cave?" Danny asked, not sure whether they should enter the old Amity Park Cave in the middle of the woods, just on the other side of Amity Park's park.

"Come on Danny! Where's your sense of adventure?" Sam encouraged. "I bet there's bound of cool stuff that nature has made in there."

Danny sighed and knew there was no talking Sam out of not going in the cave. With a slight nod he agreed and pulled out a torch from his back pack. The two then entered and began their exploration. As they continued to explore the cave, they found interesting rock formations, clear rock pools and waterfalls and even different sorts of crystals in one of the areas.

After a couple of hours, they decided to leave and head for home. However, they found they couldn't find their way back. They continued to try walking in different directions, but still couldn't find the way they had come through.

Danny then decided to try something different. Using his ice powers, he froze a rock and marked the spot they were currently at and said, "We'll now know whether or not we've already come this way."

With that in mind, the two tried again. Danny noticed that Sam was starting to get a little anxious and worried and tried his best to comfort and keep her calm. They continued to try and find their way out, but then found they were back at the exact same spot where Danny had frozen the rock from earlier.

"We're walking in circles." Sam said, shaking her head and sitting down on the ground.

"Sam….are you okay?" Danny asked in concern, taking a seat next to her.

"It's all my fault. I made us come in here." Sam said as she continued to look down. "Now we're lost and it looks like we'll never get out of here."

"Sam….it's not your fault. We're still together and that's all that matters." Danny said, giving her a small smile.

"I don't say this but….to be honest Danny, I'm really scared right now." Sam admitted.

Danny wrapped his arm around her. She leaned into his comforting embrace as he said, "There's nothing wrong with being afraid Sam. I've been and am still to this day scared as well. I get scared when I feel like I'm not doing enough as Danny Phantom, I get scared for all the innocent people that get caught in the ghost fights, I get scared of breaking my promise to never turn evil…..but what scares me the most is losing not just you and Tucker, but my family as well. My mum however always taught me that there comes a time where all we can rely on is faith."

He stood up and reached out his hand to her as he said, "Just grab my hand Sam and I promise, we'll find a way out of here."

Sam took his hand and allowed him to lead her once again on the path, that'll hopefully lead out of the cave. This time, taking a different direction, than the same one they had taken before.

They stopped for a moment and Danny pushed back a strand of her hair back and caressed her cheek gently. She smiled warmly at the gesture and the two continued walking down the path.

Waiting for you and me

After thirty minutes of walking, the two stopped to take a break. Sam decided then and there to tell Danny a secret she had been keeping from him ever since they started high school.

"Danny….I have something to tell you." Sam started, a little nervously.

"What is it Sam?" Danny asked curiously.

She took a deep breath and spoke, "I….I really, really like you Danny, ever since we started high school. Well….I actually kind of….fallen in love with you."

Danny eyes widened as he asked, "Really?"

"Yeah. I've just….I've just never got the chance to tell you and at first, it was just a crush but then I realised that I really do love you. I also never had the courage to tell you also. When I was dating Gregor and when he kissed me, a part of me began to realise that I couldn't picture myself with anyone else but you." Sam answered. She then added looking down, "But….I understand if you don't feel the same way about me and I really hope, that we can remain friends, because I don't want anything to ruin what we have."

She walked up to him closer and just kissed him on the cheek. Danny's eyes widened at that action but then, Sam felt him gently grabbing her chin and then suddenly, kissed her on the mouth. She returned the kiss and as they did, time seemed to stand still for both of them as all their feelings for each other went into that romantic moment.

They pulled apart and smiled warmly at each other. Danny then said, "Sam….I love you too. And I always will. I'm just sorry it took me so long to realise."

"Well….we didn't call you clueless for nothing." Sam joked, causing them both to laugh a little.

He then got an idea, he lit up his finger with his ecto energy and carved something on the wall of the cave. Sam smiled when she saw what he carved. It was a love heart and inside was written Danny Fenton loves Sam Manson.

"There. Someday, the world is gonna know that there was a Sam Manson and a Danny Fenton here and it'll remind us what we mean to each other." Danny said.

Sam and Danny then hugged each other. As Danny opened his eyes, they widened when he noticed something coming from around the corner, he gasped and they let go of each other.

"What is it?" Sam asked.

"I….I think I see light and I think I remember this way." Danny answered.

He walked up ahead and looked ahead to see light coming from what was the entrance of the cave. They had finally found their way back.

"Sam, there's light! I see light! It's the entrance! We're getting out of here!" Danny said with excitement and grabbed Sam's hand and led the way.

Sam saw the light and said with a smile, "It's such a beautiful light! You were right Danny!"

As the two headed towards the exit, they held each other's hands and looked romantically in each other's eyes.

The exited the cave and just embraced each other as the sun began to set in the distance of the park.

Once again, the two young teenagers kissed each other. After they pulled apart, Danny asked changing into his ghost form, "So, you want to go for a ride and see where the future takes us?"

"Absolutely." Sam said with a nod.

He picked her up bridal style and began flying off into the sunset, heading for Sam's home and they would never forget what happened in that cave.
