AUTHOR'S NOTES: Well here it is! A new musical one shot inspired by my number one favourite musical Wicked. In this one, Dani is fourteen and her and Valerie are really good friends. Valerie was there when Dani got her powers in the lab accident and became a ghost hunter to try and help her friend with the ghost attacks. They discovered Vlad was also a halfa, but an evil one named Plasmius and now he is Mayor of Amity Park. With the help of Walker, they make the town believe that Dani is an evil ghost before she has the chance to prove herself to be a hero.

Now the two friends must choose what paths their lives will take.

DEFYING GRAVITY

Dani and Valerie flew to the attic of the Town Hall and locked the doors. This has been one bad day for Dani. She not only found out her best friend Valerie was the mysterious Red Huntress that has been helping her with some of her ghost hunts all this time, but now their mayor Vlad Masters is an evil halfa named Vlad Plasmius and he and Walker just staged a whole attack, making it look like she was the one behind it all.

Now her parents think she's evil, the whole town think she's evil and she doesn't know what to do.

"This is bad! Really, really bad!" Dani continued to panic as she paced back and forth in her ghost form.

Valerie removed her helmet and said holding her best friend's hand, "Dani! It's going to be okay. I'm sorry I didn't tell you I was the Red Huntress, but I promise we will work this out."

Dani held Valerie's hand tightly as she tried to figure out what to do. Valerie then suggested, "Dani, listen to me. Maybe you shouldn't continue to try and be a superhero or at least lay low for a while before it's too late. I can handle the ghost fights for now."

Dani thought about what Valerie said and then finally it clicked. She can't give up. Yes, the town may think she's evil now, but it doesn't she can't change their minds. No. She was going to continue to try and be the hero the town needed her to be.

She let go of Valerie's hand and said, "I know Val, but I can't do that. Yes, I know it's bad right now….but I won't give up when the people need me the most. I'm going to keep trying and I know someday, they'll see me for what I really am."

Dani walked over to the window and opened it up to reveal the full moon, shining over the town of Amity Park as people waited outside Town Hall listening to the mayor and keeping an eye out for Dani.

DANI

Something has changed within me

Something is not the same

I'm through with playing by the rules of someone else's game

Too late for second guessing

Too late to go back to sleep

Dani stood on a pile of boxes and smiled as she knew what she had to do. Take a chance and a leap of faith.

It's time to trust my instincts, close my eyes and leap

She flew around the room for a bit, smiling at her new revelation.

It's time to try defying gravity

I think I'll try defying gravity

And you can't pull me down

Valerie couldn't believe it! Dani was going to put herself in danger, just to prove to Amity Park that Vlad was wrong about her. As Dani landed back down on the floor, she tried once to convince her friend to follow her plan.

VALERIE

Can't I make you understand?

You're having delusions of grandeur!

Dani shook her head, for she was through with limits! She was going to do this her way for it was time for her to follow her heart no matter where it leads her.

DANI

I'm through accepting limits

Cause someone says they're so

Some things I cannot change, but till I try I'll never know

She thought about her parents, Jack and Maddie since they were ghost hunters. Even though she knew they loved her, because they didn't know her secret they'll hunt her down like any other ghost.

Too long I've been afraid of

Losing love I guess I've lost

But she also knew that facing her parents was part of the risk she was going to have to take on her new path to become a better and stronger hero and she was going to be ready for that, no matter what.

Well if that's love, it comes at much too high a cost

I'd sooner buy defying gravity

Kiss me goodbye, I'm defying gravity

And you can't pull me down!

Suddenly they heard banging on the door. Maddie then shouted, "Open up Phantom! We know you're in there and you can't hide from us!"

"You're not getting away with attacking our town ghost kid!" Jack then shouted.

She then turned to Valerie and then said, "Quickly Valerie come with me. We can do this together, as partners."

Valerie's eyes widened! Dani not only wanted her to come with her right now, but also to become her full partner.

"You're not mad at me for lying to you about being the Red Huntress?" Valerie asked, still in shock.

"Of course not! You're my best friend Val and just think of what we can do, together." Dani said smiling as she held out her hand to her best friend.

DANI

Unlimited

Together we're unlimited

Together we'll be the greatest team there's ever been

Valerie

Dreams the way we planned them

Valerie held both Dani's hands and smiled, as she really considered her offer of becoming her partner.

VALERIE

If we work in tandem

DANI AND VALERIE

There's no fight we cannot win

Just you and I defying gravity

With you and I defying gravity

They'll never bring us down

Jack and Maddie suddenly began to try and break down the door. Dani then asked, "Well….what do you think?"

Valerie suddenly looked down sadly as she let go of Dani's hands. Tears fell from her eyes as she knew her decision.

She looked back up at her friend and said, "I'm sorry Dani, but…..I want to be partners with you….but not now. I'll still help you as your ally the Red Huntress and your friend Valerie Grey, but for now it may not be a good idea to be partners until people realise the hero you are."

Dani nodded and said as she too looked down sadly, "I understand."

Valerie then pulled out something, "I have something for you."

She placed the material on the chest part of Dani's suit. Dani looked at it and saw it was a white symbol. It was D with a P in the middle of it. Valerie continued to smile sadly as she said, "Go and be the hero I know you are, Dani Phantom."

Dani smiled at her best friend, grateful to her that even though she won't be her partner yet, she'll still help her from time to time anyway.

VALERIE

I hope you're happy

Now that you're choosing this

DANI

You too

I hope it brings you bliss

VALERIE AND DANI

I really hope you get it and you don't live to regret it

I hope you're happy in the end

I hope you're happy my friend

They gave each other another hug and then Valerie placed on her mask just as Jack and Maddie were breaking through the doors.

"Go! Now!" Valerie told Dani.

Dani flew right out of the window out into the sky just as Jack and Maddie burst in with their guns blazing.

"Huntress! Where's that ghost kid?" Jack asked.

Maddie then saw Dani floating above the crowd outside and pointed to her, "Jack look!"

Dani floated above in the sky of the crowds and Vlad at the podium, taking them all by shock as she bravely floated there with her arms in the air.

DANI

So if you care to find me

Look to the Western sky

As someone told me lately;

Everyone deserves the chance to fly!

And if I'm flying solo, at least I'm flying free

To those who'd ground me,

Take a message back from me!

Dani dived down, making the crowd split as she fly right up to Vlad making him jump back in fright, showing him that she wasn't afraid of him. She flew back up to the sky and her form shone brightly in the moonlight.

Tell them how I am defying gravity

I'm flying high defying gravity!

And soon I'll match them in re-known

And nobody, in all of Amity

Dani took one last look at them and took off into the night sky, ready to follow her path and show them that she was a hero.

No mayor that there is or was

Is ever gonna bring me down!

Valerie smiled proudly at her best friend as she watched Dani take off into the distance of the night sky.

VALERIE

I hope you're happy!

JACK, MADDIE AND PEOPLE OF AMITY PARK

Look at her! She's wicked!

Get her!

DANI

Bring me down!

JACK, MADDIE AND PEOPLE OF AMITY PARK

No-one mourns the wicked!

So we've got to bring her…..

DANI

Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!
