May slid her books off of the table back into her bag, her eyes feeling heavy. Suddenly, her eyes widened when something slammed against her table. Alarmed, May looked up from her bag. 'Hi, June.' A familiar voice whispered. It was Drew, towering above the table, looking into his eyes in confusion.
'Hi?' May mumbled back in confusion, weirded out by his sudden entrance. 'Is hi all that you'll be saying to me?' Drew huffed back, his eyebrows furrowing in annoyance. 'No... actually! Now schools over, and we only have one week left to study for the project, how about we work on it today?' May suggested.
Drew had looked amused when she protested, however, when she got to the project part his eyelids sunk slightly. 'Not the project... I don't wanna...' He complained, his head hanging almost beneath his shoulders. 'Drew, don't worry. We don't have to study at your house. We'll do it at mine. Like I promised.'
Drew hesitated. 'Come on. It's only a few last bits that we have to write about, then we're all done,' May breathed, exhausted. Drew pouted to himself before nodding. 'Sigh... ah, okay. Fine.' He groaned, swinging his backpack over his shoulders while May stifled a laugh. 'We'll have it done in no time, Drew.'
With her backpack over her shoulder May had stepped into the train along with Drew beside her. 'So... how long is your train drive again?' Drew asked, peeking over her shoulder. 'Oh! Like half an hour... which, sounds long but isn't that much. At least, it doesn't seem as long as it does walking to your house.' May answered.
Drew sweatdropped. 'The walk back to my house isn't that long, you're over exaggerating.' He snickered, sitting down on one of the free seats. 'I'm not, the walk to your house is genuinely really long,' she pouted, furrowing her eyebrow at him accusingly. Drew just huffed in response.
'I'm home!' May yelled, opening the door with her key and stepping in. Drew calmly followed her in, making no noise. However, she got no response. 'Is no one home? Ah.. that can be possible. Maybe Max is at a friends house?' May whispered. 'Max?' Drew jumped in.
'Max is my little brother,' she answered, walking over to the table and setting her backpack down. 'Ah, right.. your little brother,' he sighed. 'You don't like kids, do you?' May retorted dryly, but Drew didn't respond. Instead he just shyly nodded.
'May, is that your boyfriend?'
Turning around in surprise, Max could be seen in the corner of the room, sitting on the couch, his arms crossed. 'A-Ah! My boyfriend? N-No way!' May squealed in embarrassment, her cheeks immediately flaring red. 'He's a friend from my class .. we're working on a project?' May sweat dropped.
Max cocked his eyebrow. 'Are you sure he's not your boyfriend?' He asked again, and May started stuttering again. 'No, he's not my boyfriend! He's a boy, he's a friend, but he's not my boyfriend! You hear me?!' She spluttered, angrily clenching her fists. Max flat out ignored her claim and turned towards Drew. 'Do you like my sister?' He questioned.
Drew gave him a disgusted look, however, his cheeks were slightly red. 'I don't like her,' he spat back, though his voice was shaking a tad bit. Max blinked before groaning to himself and falling back into the couch. 'Whatever. Go work on that fun project if what you were saying was so true.' he huffed.
May quickly nodded her head, grabbed Drew by his arm and tugged him along with her. Once they were upstairs, May sighed to herself. 'I'm sorry about my brother. He's usually annoying like that,' she announced. 'And he's only gotten more and more grumpy ever since we moved—' she breathed in exhaustion.
'So the moving part really had impact on both of you, huh? It'd make sense if you missed your old home.' Drew retorted, picking up the sad tone which was sticking out in Mays voice. 'It did..' May replied. 'We're getting used to it, but... it's still not easy.' She admitted.
Drew nodded. 'That makes sense, it takes time to adjust to new stuff. But, I will admit that your house looks really nice and organized even though you've moved in here just recently,' he admitted. 'where's your room? I take it we'll be studying there?' May shyly nodded, 'Yeah, uhm, it's right over here, come on,' May told him, opening door in front of them.
'Ah— it's all nice and cozy in here. Hard to believe you moved here so recently,' Drew breathed. May excitedly nodded her head as she smiled brightly at him. 'Yeah! I was actually allowed to design my room myself, and I took my chance. I think it looks nice!' She giggled, sitting down on her soft bed.
Drew glared around the room. 'So where do we study?' He asked, looking around for a decent spot. 'Uhm... we can just study at my desk,' she answered, pointing to her small, neat desk. Drew blinked twice, looking at the table before answering. 'But it's really small, are you sure that'll work out?'
May nodded, gritting her teeth into a grin. 'Of course! I'll grab another chair, I promise it'll work!' She chirped, running out the room to grab a different chair. Drew shrugged, placing his backpack down on her floor and grabbed some books. When done he sat down at the desk, he slid his books on the table and crossed his arms, waiting for May to be back.
After a minute struck by May awkwardly stomped into the room with a second chair, barely not able to hold the chair. Drew turned around to look at her and immediately broke out into snickering. 'Is it a little heavy, June?' He jested, accusingly pointing his finger at the chair. Blushing, May shook her head. 'No way!' She denied. And as if regained energy filled her body, she quickly shuffled over to Drew and proceeded to place the chair down.
Drew was still smirking at May, not saying a word. 'I... I just held the chair in the wrong way.' She stuttered in embarrassment, sitting down. Drew felt a warm feeling rush through his body when Mays arm brushed against his. With his cheeks stained red, he looked the other way. 'Right,' he muttered. 'So let's begin!'
After long hours of work the two had finally finished all of their assignments for the project, and they were now eating something at the table. 'I'm so glad we got the project finished!' May grimaced, stuffing food into her mouth. Drew gave her a nod in agreement. 'I'm relieved too. I didn't think we'd have it finished today honestly.'
May furrowed her eyebrows at him. 'You have absolutely no faith in me at all, do you?' she questioned, gritting her teeth. Drew laughed at her response. 'I did doubt you,' Drew snickered, eating one last crumb on his plate. 'Of course you did...' May sighed, looking down at her plate, deadpanning.
After a silence struck by, May spoke up again. 'So I take it you'll be heading home in a minute?' She asked. 'I won't assume you want to stay here at all,' she awkwardly chuckled, rubbing her neck. She was entirely sure Drew wasn't necessarily enjoying staying at her place so far. However, Drew did not respond. He just paused, with his fork in his hand.
As if she understood, her eyes slightly widened. 'You don't want to go home, do you?' She murmured. 'Are your parents still home?' Drew hesitated before nodding his head. 'Yeah. They're still home. And yesterday they were just pestering me the whole day, I got barely any rest,' he said.
May looked up at Drew with worry in her eyes. 'Hey, if you want you can stay here for the night... we have an extra mattress, if you'd like we can place it down in my bedroom and you can just sleep here for the night, without your parents ticking you off.' She suggested.
Drew nodded. 'That'd be nice, thanks. Tomorrow we've got a long day of school, I would appreciate some actual sleep.' He noted. 'Deal! We'll have you stay at my place tonight, then. I'm sure my parents would be okay with that, they're really kind.' She added, smiling. Drew had almost gotten lost in her eyes before he looked away. 'I hope.' He answered.
May was reading through a book, and Drew was on his phone. Suddenly the door opened and someone stepped in; it was mom and dad! Excited, May pulled herself up from the couch and greeted her parents. 'Hey Mom, hi dad!' she chirped, placing her book down on the table in front of her while her parents put down their bags.
'Hi, sweetie!' Caroline sang, but she looked a little surprised when she caught a glance of Drew. 'Ooh, who's this? A boy?' She giggled, her eyebrows furrowing accusingly. May, aware of where this was going, went slightly red in the cheeks. 'He's a friend! We had to work on a project together!' May excused herself.
Caroline grinned knowingly, not saying a word. Norman however was just inspecting Drew, his face exposing no emotion. 'He is pretty handsome,' Caroline defended, smiling brightly at the green haired student who had already looked up from his phone. 'Mom, don't say that!' May stuttered. 'Anyhow.. it's nice to meet you. Uhm.. what's your name?' Caroline asked.
Drew's eyes slightly widened. 'Oh, right. My name's Drew, pleasure to meet you.' Drew smiled, lifting himself up from the couch to give Caroline a hand. Caroline happily shook his hand, smiling brightly at the boy. 'I'm Caroline, May's mom.' she said. 'And this is my man, Norman.' She added, turning to her husband. 'Hello.' Norman greeted.
May could tell, Drew felt slightly uneasy under Normans gaze, and she could figure her father wasn't the biggest fan of Drew so far. But.. if anything, he wasn't so keen on May hanging out with any boys ever. May smiled awkwardly, and eventually spoke up to break the silence. 'Erm.. anyway, is it OK if Drew stays here for the night?' May questioned.
Caroline didn't even seem to hesitate before she answered. 'Of course he can stay here for the night, May! We'll just have to grab a mattress— he's okay with that, right?' Her mom chirped, looking back at Drew. 'He's good with that. And if he doesn't sleep comfortably
enough we can switch beds.' May offered.
'Sounds good. How about you two go hang out while we make dinner, hm?' Caroline whistled, with a hint of amusement in her voice. May, blushing again, nodded hastily. 'Y-Yes! Will do!' May panicked, grabbing Drew by the wrist and pulling him upstairs. Panting, the two were standing at the end of the staircase. 'Ah.. sorry about my parents..' May groaned.
Drew tilted his head. 'What about them? They were really kind.' He insisted, shaking his hands dismissively. May looked back at Drew, her eyes slightly widening with surprise. 'You think? I'm glad. I don't want them to think there's... y'know... uhm..' she stuttered, her cheeks fading an even darker red.
'Errr.. right, that,' he cut her off awkwardly, shuffling over to her room. 'I don't get the feeling your dad really likes me though.' He sighed. May looked at him, shaking her head. 'He's not a big fan of me bringing boys around. Protective father behavior,' She spat, deadpanning. Drew looked at her before chuckling. 'Right. Makes sense.'
'Okay, I think it's a good time for us to go to bed,' May yawned. 'Yeah, it's gotten pretty late.' Drew agreed, nodding his head. 'Here's the mattress,' May noted, shoving the mattress into the room before letting it fall on the floor. 'Thanks.' Drew thanked. 'No problem!' May excused. 'I'll go change,' May giggled, running out her room to head to the bathroom.
After a minute May stepped back into the room, wearing a cute nightgown that she was a big fan off. She happily twirled around in it before falling back into her bed. 'Aahh.. I'm so tired...' she sighed, turning around so she was planted face flat into her pillow.
'Argh, me too.' Drew groaned. May turned back around, just to see Drew pull up his shirt. 'W-What're you doing?' She blushed, barely able to keep her eyes off of his chest. 'What do you think? It's warm in here,' he huffed. 'Plus I'm not with annoying girls who will constantly swoon over me.' he commented, eventually letting himself fall back into the mattress.
May blinked twice, feeling her face heat up. 'Ah.. right. You've got a point there..' she said, her cheeks still red. She crawled under her blankets and buried her face into the pillow, hiding her red cheeks from Drew. yeah, she'd never swoon over him.
Drew slid under his covers and closed his eyes. 'Good night, May.' He whispered, hoping that May could still hear him. 'Good night, Drew. Sleep well. I've got an alarm set up, so you don't have to worry about waking up late.' May whispered back, uncomfortably shifting around. Drew smiled, aware she wasn't able to see him. 'Thanks.' He said as dryly as possible.
Drew just couldn't fall asleep. Maybe it was the fact that he was in some place he wasn't really familiar with at all, or... it would be because he was beside her. Drew had looked up at May multiple times. It was clear she had already fallen asleep, as she was snoring really quietly.
The moonlight that snuck into the room hit her face; and right there, during that moment, Drew felt his cheeks reddening. A warm feeling crept up in his stomach. What was this? Why was he feeling this? Irritated and confused, Drew turned back around on his side.
She was.. she.. he would never be able to admit it to anyone, it was even tough to admit it to himself, but May was cute. The way she's just sleeping so carelessly.. the innocence on her face whilst she's just asleep.. It made him deep weird, it made him feel confused.
Pulling himself up, he again looked back up at May. He turned around, and he was now hovering above Mays bed, looking at her. What was this feeling? Moving his head closer to hers, he looked at her. No, he wasn't going to kiss her! Embarrassed, Drew let himself fall back into the mattress. no. he'd never.
