May angrily growled into her pillow. She had messed up. She had messed up big time! The previous day she had accepted Drew's invite to prom in embarrassment, but only now she had realized how much trouble she had brought herself in.
She was a terrible friend, and May couldn't forgive herself for doing something so stupid. She was extremely aware that Brianna had a thing for Drew— and now she was rudely stabbing her into the back by going to prom with exactly him. Well, May hadn't exactly meant for things to go this way, but... they happened anyway.
Well.. she had to tell Brianna that she was going somehow, and she couldn't tell Drew last minute that she wouldn't be going with him. Especially since he had told her that he really wanted to experience prom for once, but never had the chance to since all the girls would swoon over him and leave no time to actually enjoy the event itself.
Yes, she would tell her at school. And if necessary, she'd tell her they were going just as friends. May deep inside new that Brianna was a very kind and forgiving girl, she could never hold a grudge over something like that .. could she?.. Lifting herself up from her bed, she went to get ready for the day of school.
Eventually the three had been sitting at the tables, chatting and eating their food. Suddenly, May broke the conversation. 'You guys— there's something I need to tell you.' May admitted, putting her bread down. Brianna and Dawn curiously looked back at her. 'Oh, what's up?' Brianna asked. 'Well... I'm going to the prom. With Drew.'
Dawn looked like almost she was going to choke on her drink, and Brianna looked really surprise as well. 'Huh? So you asked him?' Brianna blurted out in surprise. 'W-Whaat! No, I didn't ask him.. he asked me.. it was a surprise, really.' May admitted, anxiously looking back at her plate.
'Well.. I... I'm happy for you, May.' Brianna giggled, although she could pick up a sad tone in her voice. 'Yeah, me too.' Dawn agreed. May however looked up hastily. 'W-We're just going as friends though! At least... I think.' May continued, her voice slightly shaking.
'So you're a friend of his now, huh? That's something new.. I don't think Drew has much friends at all.' Brianna commented. 'Yeah.. but it does make sense, I've seen you guys hanging around school a lot lately.' Dawn agreed, taking another sip of her drink. May looked back up as a silence fell. 'Brianna.. I'm sorry.'
Brianna blinked. 'Huh? Sorry for what?' She smiled, tilting her head. 'For just.. accepting his invite like that. I knew you really liked him..' May apologized. Brianna dismissively shook her head as her eyes slightly widened. 'No May, don't be sorry for that! If anything.. I'm glad he's finally going to the prom for once. Even though, honestly, I would've rather had for him to go with me .. but I'm really happy for you, May, I mean it.'
May happily looked back at Brianna. 'Thank you Brianna.. thank you so much. I thought I had messed up big time by just accepting his invite to the prom,' She huffed, putting her bottle back into her bag. 'You haven't .. If Drew asked you, May, I'm happy he's found someone to be comfortable enough to go to prom with.'
May stood up and gave Brianna a big hug, as she just giggled, her sad twinkle in her eyes no longer present. 'But... talking about Drew, I haven't seen him all day,' Dawn interrupted. 'Not to mention his fangirls aren't anywhere to be seen with him, either.'
Brianna lifted her head. 'I heard Drew's absent today. Some girls said that he was sick,' Brianna retorted. 'But how would they know?' Dawn asked again, as May just silently listened in. 'Well, girls claimed that they constantly heard Drew heavily coughing and sneezing ever since the first break— so much that he went home sick later that day.' May blinked; after the first break? Wait..
'That's it!' May panicked, lifting herself from her seat and slamming her hands against the table. Brianna flinched, alarmed by her sudden outburst. 'What? What's 'it?'" Brianna asked. May went red in the face. 'Ah! N-No, it's nothing!' She said, sitting back down. 'Now I'm curious! Tell me!' Dawn protested.
'No, I just.. I just remembered something for a project,' May lied, not really interested on telling Brianna and Dawn about the very embarrassing moment that had occurred between May and Drew the previous day. 'Ahw man.. okay,' Dawn huffed.
May watched as she entered the neighborhood that she was familiar with by now. She had to pay Drew a visit. After all, she was the one that got her sick! Sure, she was still awfully embarrassed about the thing that happened earlier, so much that it would be extremely tough to face Drew again—
But she could at least head over to his place to apologize. Her cheeks reddened when she remembered how close he was to her. She was almost entirely sure that she had brought her cold over to him as well, since he apparently wasn't coughing and sneezing before the first break, which was the break when everything happened in the first place.
She took a deep breath, marched over to Drew's house and knocked on his door, truly hoping she didn't show up to his house for nothing. Then, suddenly, the door opened.
It was Drew, shirtless, and he looked very surprised upon seeing May. 'May? What're you doing here?' He asked. 'I... I'm sorry,' May apologized, bowing. 'Huh? What're—' he coughed, '—you sorry for?' May took a step closer and clasped her hands in a forgiving manner. 'I'm.. I'm probably the reason that you're sick!' 'What are you talking about?'
'I'll explain, just let me in— if we keep the door open the cold will get you even more sick.' May said, as she gave Drew a light push, stepped in and closed the door. 'So.. explain?' Drew huffed. It was very much clear that he was sick. his entirely body was pale, except his cheeks and the bridge of his nose were burning red.
'You know, when we ... uh.. ended up in the locker together?' May squeaked in embarrassment. Drew's cheeks got even more red. 'Don't remind me of that—' He commented. It was very much clear he was embarrassed, too. 'Well.. I had a cold,' May admitted. 'I might've.. passed my cold on to you on accident while we were in there.'
Drew blinked. 'Oh..' he said. 'Well,' he coughed again, 'I guess that makes sense.' He said, lifting his hand to run it through his green locks. 'Still.. I'm sorry. I felt like I had to visit you and see how you were doing..' she whispered, slightly lowering her head.
Drew crossed his arms. 'About that, how did you know I was sick?' Drew commented, as a grin spread on his face. 'H-Huh? Don't think anything weird! Brianna said she hadn't seen you around and that some girls said you went home sick yesterday.' May noted, pointing her finger at him. 'Well.. fair enough.'
Suddenly, Drew felt a hand pressed to his forehead, and he felt his heart thump in his chest. 'Geez, Drew, you're hot!' She blurted out. Recovering from the embarrassment, Drew smirked. 'So you finally admit that I'm hot stuff? No wonder, I don't have a shirt on now anyway.' He huffed proudly. May blushed. 'N-No, you idiot!' She protested angrily. 'I meant hot as in, your forehead is burning up.'
Drew grunted. 'If you think that's bad, you should've seen me yesterday.' He groaned. May puffed her cheeks and pushed Drew over the couches. 'Drew, you go and lay down. I'll get something for you.' May offered, running to the kitchen. 'May,' he coughed. 'No need to..'
'Nonsense, Drew. I'm helping you out.' May yelled back. Drew let himself fall into the couch as he let a small smile tug the corners of his lips. So May really does care.. he thought, turning his head to look into the kitchen. May was getting something ready, though he couldn't figure out what exactly.
As a few minutes struck by May stumbled into the living room, a glass clasped inbetween her hands. She proceeded to hand it over to Drew. Confused, he tilted his head. 'What's this?' Drew asked. 'It's a fruit smoothie. There's plenty of good vitamins in it, it'll do you some good! I always make these smoothies when Max is sick, too.' She exclaimed.
Drew looked into the glass. 'Ah.. thank you, May,' he muttered, as he slowly and carefully started to take sips. He was hesitant at first, but as the liquid ran through his mouth he could figure it didn't taste bad at all. 'How does it taste?' May asked curiously, towering above Drew. Drew nodded his head. 'It tastes nice.' Drew told her and set the glass down again.
'Ah, glad!' She chirped, also sitting down on the couch. 'I take it your parents aren't home?' May asked. 'Yeah. They left a week ago. Unexpectedly, like always. They didn't even bother to let me know, but they never really do.' May gave him a pat on his shoulder. 'I'm sorry, you don't deserve such treatment.'
Drew shook his head. 'Don't feel sorry. I've learnt to deal with it, it just irks me sometimes.' He admitted, lifting himself up. He suddenly felt like he felt a lot better. 'Still doesn't make it fair,' May protested, leaning against the edge of the couch. 'Right.' Drew stifled a half-hearted laugh.
'So...' May began. 'Is there anything else I can do for you?' May offered. 'To... maybe make you feel better?' She said, her eyelids slightly sinking. Drew opened his mouth to respond. 'I just.. it would be nice if you could stay here for a bit. I've been alone all day, maybe some company can lighten my mood.'
May nodded. 'Deal,' She said, 'I'll stay here for a bit. I just need to make sure to be home before dinner,' she chirped. 'Okay. Sounds good. Thank you.'
May slid her comfortable beanie on her head. 'Well, it's my time to go.' May said, turning around to face Drew again. 'Yeah.' Drew muttered back, his eyes glistening. 'How're you feeling now?' May inquired, grabbing the door handle. 'Much better. If I'm lucky I'll be able to come to school tomorrow.' He exclaimed.
May grinned widely. 'Glad!' She giggled. 'I'll see you tomorrow then? If not, I'll see you some other day. Take care and make sure to be careful, OK?' May said, opening the door and stepping out. 'I will.' Drew huffed back, a smile tugging the corners of his lips. May smiled at him before stepping in again and ruffling his hair playfully.
'Well, see you later, Drew!' She chirped happily, running off with her backpack over her shoulder. 'B-Bye!' Drew yelled back after a few seconds struck by and May had almost ran out the street. With his cheeks red, and heart beating into his throat Drew rose his hand up to his chest-
uh oh..
I think I'm sick again..
