May happily strolled through the streets, heading for the mall. May, Brianna and Dawn had promised to meet each other at the main opening of the indoor mall. With her handbag around her shoulder she felt herself fastening her pace, excited to do some shopping!
When she could only see the main entrance, she could already she the blurry figures of Dawn and Brianna in the distance, who seemed to be looking around for, assuming, her. 'Brianna, Dawn, hey!' May yelled, running towards the two as they turned around to look at her 'May! Hi!' Brianna waved.
As May had approached the two Dawn had swung her bag over her shoulder. 'Hi May! Ready for some shopping?' She chirped, as May immediately lifted her head and smiled. 'Absolutely! I'm not just ready, I am born ready!' May huffed proudly, lifting her head.
'Let's get shopping then!' May giggled, grabbing Brianna and Dawn by the arms and pulling them along. Brianna had squeaked when she had grabbed her by the arm, however, Dawn was completely unfazed and just accepted being pulled along.
'Sooo,' Dawn began, placing her hands on her waist. 'Where're we gonna begin searching for some nice dresses, hm?' she asked. Brianna looked at the shops before answering. 'Tough decision, all the shops look pretty cool...' Brianna groaned, checking the mannequins before the glass in each shop.
May pressed her finger against her chin. 'How about we check out gardedresses first?' May suggested, peeking over at the large, cutely decorated shop that was located just in front of them. 'all right!' Brianna squealed, 'deal!' she quickly grabbed May by the wrist and pulled her along. 'Wait! Wait for me!' Dawn panicked,
following the two friends run off.
As soon as they had entered the store dresses could be seen everywhere. Long dresses, shorter dresses, skirts, miniskirts, laid-back skirts, anything. The girls looked around in awe- that moment it was very clear they'd have a tough time picking the perfect dress to buy.
After checking out a bunch of stores, the girls just weren't able to decide. 'They're all adorable!' Brianna groaned. 'What do we do? We've went from store to store, yet found nothing that we really want to wear!' Dawn continued. May sighed. 'Let's check out one last store,' May suggested. Brianna and Dawn nodded. 'Yeah! No more wasting time!' Brianna yowled, storming into the larger store in front of them.
'Ooh! This one is cute,' Dawn giggled, running to the closest rack as she began to observe a dark blue gown. May peeked over her shoulder, taking a look at the dress as well. 'Oooh! That one is really pretty,' May chirped. 'I'll try this one on!' Dawn replied happily as May went down on her own to search for some dresses herself.
After a minute or two had struck by all three had managed to find some dresses they wanted to try on. They headed over to the fitting room to check out how it looked on them.
Dawn calmly marched out of the room, the dark blue gown perfectly fitting her. 'Ahw, Dawn, you look so cute!' Brianna murmured in awe. 'The blue really fits your hair!' She giggled. 'And it's relatively cheap, too! Are you planning on getting that one?' Brianna asked.
Dawn nodded. 'You know.. yeah, I might just go with this one! Out of all the dresses we've checked this one is definitely my favorite.' She retorted, happily spinning around once in her light, airy dress. 'Awesome!' May giggled. 'You go on, then, Brianna! Let's see what you got,' May suggested, as Dawn murmured a 'mhm!'
After a minute Brianna stepped out with a light pink, short dress. 'Ahw!' May beamed, 'So cute! It looks so good on you, Bri!' she chirped excitedly, glaring over at Dawn to see what she thought. 'May is right!' Dawn chimed in after receiving a look from May. 'It looks good on you! You need to buy it!' Dawn cheered.
Brianna's cheeks painted a soft red as she shyly nodded. 'O-Okay, thank you!' She giggled, stepping back into the fitting room to get her outfit changed. Dawn then turned over to May. 'So what did you find?' Dawn mumbled curiously, peeking over the folded dress she had in her arms. May playfully winked at her, 'Well, soon you'll see!' she said.
As soon as Brianna had come out, done with changing, May had stormed into the fitting room to change. And surprisingly fast May walked out again, a clean, black dress perfectly fitting on her figure. 'So pretty!' Brianna yowled. 'May, you look amazing!' Dawn nodded in agreement. 'Eh, I don't know..' May murmured. 'What? You don't like it?'
'I do, but.. it's just a little tight.' May answered. 'I want a bit of a... wider one, something more loose, more airy.' She noted, pulling the hem of her skirt awkwardly. 'Oh! That's fine, you can go search for something else, then! We've got plenty of time left to search!' Dawn brightly smiled at May as May nodded. 'You're right!'
DREW HAYDEN'S POV
Drew calmly stepped into the clothing store. Yes, he was heading to get a nice suit for prom. Honestly, he could barely believe that he was going at all. This was one of the first times he was attending such a big event, and, honestly, he wanted to make this time the best one.
Now, the only thing that he had left to do was search for a nice suit. Which, wasn't necessarily hard because all the suits that could be seen on the racks were very much nice. Digging his hands into the pockets of his jeans, he began looking around. What exactly was he looking for? Perhaps a white tuxedo... or a black one? He wanted something.. well, simple.
He stopped when he saw a dark gray tuxedo hanging on the rack. It was simple, nice and neat, not to mention it wasn't exactly too pricey either. But he didn't have to worry, his parents left him enough money— which was probably the only generous thing they ever did. Sighing, he grabbed the hanger and marched over to the male fitting rooms.
He was making his way, until a certain group caught his eye. He looked over, just to see a familiar brunette in the distance, wearing a black dress that perfectly fit her slim figure. Was that.. May? Curious, he glared over at the three. Yes, it was Brianna, May and Dawn. Were they perhaps searching for a fit for the prom, too?
His cheeks flashed red as he looked at May. She looked.. so... so... He clasped his hand over his mouth in embarrassment. Darn! He didn't like to admit it, but, wow, she looked beautiful. He hadn't ever seen her in such a tight dress before. He felt his heartbeat fasten. He had to take his suit and get out of there, and quick.
'May! We're waiting for you, just come out! Dawn hissed, crossing her arm in annoyance. 'You've been in there for what it feels like an hour!' Brianna said, agreeing with what dawn said. 'But I don't know about this one!' Loud complaining could be heard from the fitting room.
'Let us see it then, May! Come out!' Dawn noted. A groan rung through the room before the curtain was pushed to the side. It was May, with a white dress with roses on it. 'O-M-G! May, you look beautiful!' Brianna gasped, placing her hands on her mouth. 'You do!' Dawn agreed in awe. 'You think? It's not.. too much?' May murmured shyly.
'No way!' Dawn protested. 'It looks amazing on you, May! Don't be so insecure!' Dawn said, marching over to May and gently placing her hands on her shoulders in a comforting manner. 'I-It does? Ahw, thank you!' May giggled. 'I really do like this one.. I was just afraid it.. was too much, you know. A-Anyhow, I'll take it!' 'Awesome!'
With her bag over her shoulder, she sped her way back to the train station. She had parted with Brianna and Dawn back in the mall when they mentioned they were gonna look for some other cool stuff to buy. May had to get home on time with the train, and she definitely didn't want to miss it.
Hastily, she ran through the cold weather, often receiving a glare from people nearby, probably confused by why she was in such a hurry. They did take a lot of time searching for dresses... if she were to miss the train it'd be a disaster; she'd have to wait even longer.
She came to a stop as soon as she had arrived at the train station. How late even was it? She turned back around to look at the train schedules, only for her heart to drop.
She missed the train.
Groaning, she dug her nails into her hair. 'Nooo! You can't be kidding me, I missed the train!' She complained, angry that she forgot to head back earlier instead of staying at the mall to chat. She shivered as cold wind blew by her skin. The next train that would have her town as a destination would only arrive in 30 minutes.
'Raaagh!' May groaned. 'But I don't want to wait here thirty minutes..' she mumbled, looking behind her. Due to the rotation of seasons, the sky had gotten darker. Not to mention that massive clouds hung in the sky, threatening to, soon, let rain fall. She shivered again. 'What do I do now..' she whispered.
'May?' A familiar voice broke her out of her thoughts as she immediately turned around. She was met with Drew before her. 'D-Drew?' May whispered in surprise. 'Hey! You're all better!' May chirped happily. 'Sure am.' Drew answered, smiling. However, his smile then cracked into a grin. 'I could see you sulking over here. Missed the train?' He jested playfully.
May frowned as she quietly nodded. 'I did.' She sighed, the playful tone in his voice only worsening her mood — which did not go unnoticed. 'Ah, I'm sorry.' Drew mumbled. 'Uh.. when does the next train that heads to your place come?' Drew asked. May looked up at him. 'It'll only come in thirty minutes. And..' she muttered, shivering. 'It's so cold outside now..' she whispered. Suddenly May felt soft fabric wrap around her arms.
'Wear my jacket.' Drew said bluntly, putting it on for her. May felt her cheeks reddening. 'A-Ah, thanks..' May mumbled shyly, looking down at her feet in embarrassment. 'I wouldn't want you freezing here in the cold.' Drew whispered after a moment of silence struck by. 'There's a cafe nearby. How about we head to the cafe for a bit until your train arrives?'
With hope May looked up at Drew. 'That'd be awesome.' She whispered back, comforted by the soft fabric that hung over her shirt. When she inhaled sharply she could smell a soft rose scent, which only comforted her more. She shyly followed Drew. 'So..' May murmured.
'What're you here for?' She asked, glaring over at him. Drew's cheeks turned red before he answered. 'Ah.. I was here at the mall to buy.. stuff.' He answered dryly, not wanting to come off creepy — after all, it was really coincidental that Drew and May happened to be shopping for prom at exact the same time.
'Oh, that's cool!' May giggled. 'What.. what were you here for? This place is a while away from your place, isn't it?' Drew asked. May nodded. 'I was here to shop for prom with Brianna and Dawn. This is the most nearby mall, so..' May chuckled, looking down at her skirt. 'Oh?' He murmured.
'Did you get a nice dress?' He asked, his cheeks red. May looked up at him hastily before nodding. 'Ah, I did! We all did. It did take a while to find the one we liked best, though.' She chirped. Drew laughed. 'That's not necessarily weird. There's a bunch of shops. And, after all, who wouldn't like to impress their date?'
May went red in the face. 'H-Heh, no way! I don't want to impress anyone except for myself.' She huffed proudly, placing her hands on her waist, trying to appear as confident and sure as possible. Drew cocked an eyebrow at her while grinning. 'Sure.' He snickered. Mays cheeks were still red as she stormed into the distance, heading for the cafe. 'Wait up!' Drew laughed.
Once Drew had run up to May he caught her by the hand and pulled her back, making him fall on his chest. 'Got you,' He snickered, though his cheeks were red. 'H-Hey!' May yelled angrily. 'Let me go you meanie!' She hissed, trying to escape from his grasp. 'Hm.. let me think..'
Suddenly, he felt a raindrop shatter on his head. 'Uh oh,' Drew groaned. 'It's gonna rain. Better head inside.' Drew noted, letting May go, as he then grabbed her by the hand and pulled her along to the cafe. 'Stop dragging me around!' May screeched angrily, 'I can walk myself you big jerk!' She yowled.
As soon as the two had stepped into the cafe, panting, the rain hit down the cold stone even harder. 'Who knew it'd rain so hard,' Drew huffed, running his hand through his semi-wet locks. 'Tell me about it,' May joined in, surprised by how sudden the rainstorm had broken out. The two scared off into the distance before May realized she was still holding Drew's hand.
Embarrassed, she let go and looked back at her feet. Drew also awkwardly looked to the left when he realized. 'Ehm.. let's grab a table?' May said hastily, marching over to a cutely decorated table. Drew hesitated before nodding and following her. 'This table looks nice!' May giggled, sitting down. 'you're right.' Drew agreed, grabbing the chair and settling down.
May grabbed for the paper menu that was stuck between a holder. 'Let's see..' May mumbled to herself. Right that moment Drew couldn't help but realize this oddly seemed like a date. He felt his heart beat in his throat as he thought of the possibility. Nah, this wasn't a date. Just a very casual friend outing.
'I think I'll just take some coffee.' She murmured. Drew looked at her. 'You like coffee?' He said in surprise, cocking her eyes. 'I do...' May muttered. 'What, is there something wrong with liking coffee?' She asked, deadpanning at him. Drew dismissively shook his head. 'No, that's not it. Just didn't expect for someone like you to like coffee.'
May sighed. 'I have no idea if I should take that as a compliment or an insult.' She groaned, not getting a reply. Quickly enough a waiter showed up at the table the two were sitting at. 'Good afternoon, sir, miss, what would I be able to get for you?' The waiter asked calmly, as Drew looked at May. 'I'll just take a coffee!' May answered.
'And for you, sir?' The waiter continued. Drew quickly looked into Mays eyes before looking back up. 'I'd like a coffee, too.' He answered, smiling softly at the waitress. 'Got it. Anything else I need to write down?' She offered, looking down at the two. 'Ah.. I'll take some cookies?' May replied after taking one last look at the menu.
'Okay! I'll be back with your order in a bit.' The waitress happily exclaimed after noting the order down and walking off. 'So, you like cookies and sweets n such?' Drew randomly commented, as May looked back at him. 'Sure do!' She answered in excitement. 'And you?'
'Eh.. I'm not all about sweets, but I can like a cookie in a while,' Drew answered, grinning proudly. 'Couldn't relate to the sweets part.' May deadpanned, crossing her arms. 'Sure you can't, sweet tooth.' He jested. 'Don't call me that!' May hissed, narrowing her eyes.
As the two passed about some insults and playful comments, the waitress eventually had stepped by the two with their order. 'Hello, sir, miss. I've got your orders! Since today it is our 10th anniversary of this cafe existing, everyone will get free fortune cookies as a gift!' She noted, placing down the small plates with food on them. 'Ooh, fortune cookies? What're those?' May murmured.
'A fortune cookie is a cookie with a small paper in it, with a message on it. Which is mostly a prediction or advice.' Drew answered. 'Ooh!' May chirped, 'That sounds cool!' She giggled. 'It is indeed!' The waitress agreed. 'Make sure to share the fortune cookies with your boyfriend here,' the waitress giggled.
'M-My boyfriend?!' May panicked, her cheeks red. 'He's.. not my boyfriend...' she murmured in embarrassment. 'Oh, I am so sorry! You guys seemed really close to me. Excuse me.' The waitress sweatdropped in awkwardness. 'Uhm.. enjoy your meal! Sorry again!' She apologized, as she eventually had walked off.
'Well.. that was interesting..' Drew chuckled awkwardly, his cheeks red. 'Right.. anyway, uhm.. how do we get the paper out of the cookie?' May asked, looking down at the cookies. 'Crack it open in the middle, duh.' He groaned, pointing his finger to the middle. 'Ah! Right!' She giggled. 'Let's see what's inside after we finish our coffee and.. well, normal
cookies.'
The two had finished their coffee. 'What're we waiting for!' May giggled, 'Let's break the fortune cookies open!' May chirped, grabbing one of the cookies and gently bending it through the middle in it. She slightly gaped as she pulled out the small note.
'In the garden of life, love is the most beautiful flower.' May whispered. 'Aww, that's so true!' May whistled happily, looking down at the note. 'Don't you agree, Drew?' May giggled. 'Yeah.' Drew answered softly, looking at the fortune cookie in front of him. He carefully cracked it open. 'Your romantic journey is about to blossom like a rose.'
'Drew, what'd you get?' May asked, causing for Drew to go red in the face. 'Ah. oh, uh,' He said, recovering quickly as he smirked. 'Not gonna tell you.' He answered quickly, his smile cracking into a grin. 'I told you so you have to tell me!' May hissed angrily. 'Forget it, june,' He grinned, sliding the note into his pocket. 'Come on! Drew, tell me!
The rain had stopped, and the train had arrived at the station. May looked back at Drew right before the train. 'I had fun chatting with you in the cafe.' May admitted. 'I did, too.' Drew agreed, smiling sweetly at her. 'I'll, y'know, see you on monday?' May suggested, smiling back at him. 'See you on monday, June.' He exclaimed. 'See you!' May waved before stepping into the train.
'Bye, May!' Drew waved her goodbye as the doors of the train slid closed and as soon as he knew it May had disappeared out of sight. 'So my romantic journey is gonna blossom like a rose, huh?' He muttered to himself, his cheeks a little pink. He couldn't help but think of May. Smiling, he dug his hand into his pocket and took the note out to look at it under the streetlight.
It would.
