'How do I look?! Guys, how do I look?!' Dawn panicked, trying to brush her hair. May sighed before grabbing the brush out of her hands and proceeded to brush her hair. 'You look just amazing, Dawn! No need to be so nervous..' May grinned. 'Ahh.. but I am..'
As a minute passed May was done brushing Dawns hair. 'You look good, Dawn! You'll surely impress Kenny looking this great,' May exclaimed, playfully winking at her friend before her cheeks turned red. 'Don't say that!' She protested. 'I'm not so focused on looking good to impress him or something..' she murmured under her breath.
May snugly looked at her, the corner of her lip cracking into a grin. 'You are,' she jested, giving her a light pat on the shoulder. 'Now get up!' May said. Quickly, Dawn nodded her head and lifted herself up from her seat. 'So, are you ready too, Brianna?' May asked, turning around to look at Brianna who was adjusting the hem of her skirt. 'Yeah!' She giggled.
May took a deep breath before putting a rose in her hair to finish off her hairstyle. 'How does this look?' May asked, turning around once before her mirror. 'You look awesome, May!' Brianna answered, peeking over her shoulder as she looked into the mirror as well. 'That's a relief...' May grinned to herself.
'Girls!' Caroline's yell could be heard from downstairs as the three friends turned around to the door opening. 'The car is ready, come on! Let's get to the prom!'
May squealed in excitement. 'Coming, mom!' May yowled back. 'Come on, Brianna, Dawn!' Said May hurriedly before she ran off the stairs with her two friends following suit. 'Ah I can't wait! Especially for the food there,' May drawled, sitting down in the car. 'Of course you're just excited for the food.' Dawn commented whilst deadpanning.
'How about your date, May? It was Drew, right?' Dawn asked, looking out the window. 'Y-Yeah..' May answered, her cheeks reddening. Brianna however was quiet. 'Excited to see him?' Dawn suggested, cocking her eyebrow at her accusingly. 'H-Huh? No way! I mean...' She fumbled, her face only getting more red by each word she said.
Dawn laughed. 'Leave it. Your face tells everything I need to know..' She commented before looking back at Brianna. 'So, Brianna, have you got a date?' Dawn asked. Brianna looked back at her, sadness flashing through her eyes. 'No, but.. it's okay. I'll just.. I'll see.'
May looked into Brianna's eyes. Although she had warmly accepted the fact that May had somehow gotten for Drew to be her prom date, she had visibly become more and more upset. It broke Mays heart as she never meant to make her this upset. She wanted to make up for it, but.. she had no clue how.
'You can stick with me and Drew, Bri. I'm sure he'd understand.. he does think you're nice girl after all, right?' She murmured sweetly, giving her a pat on the shoulder. Brianna smiled back at her. 'Thank you, May.' Brianna giggled. 'I'd really appreciate if I would be able to hang out with you guys tonight.'
As soon the three girls had entered the large building the entire place was filled with students. The majority of them were dressed nice, music rang throughout the building and lights were flashing. There was, once again, your average prom night. Though most of the people seemed pretty relaxed, May felt nervous.
She hadn't ever been to prom before, let alone such a large event with almost all the students in her school. 'A-Ah..' May shuddered, letting her gaze explore the building and all the decorations and students who could be seen. 'Guys, Kenny is over there. I'm gonna go talk to him, okay?' Dawn said, turning towards the two girls. 'Sure! See you!' Brianna grinned.
As soon Dawn had run off to Kenny May was once again looking at the students. 'Brianna, are there always so many students attending Prom?' May asked, curiously turning towards her red haired friend. Brianna calmly nodded. 'Yeah, the prom is a really popular event, barely anyone misses out on it.'
'Hm.' May mumbled to herself. 'I-I think it's a bit too crowded in here..' May stuttered anxiously. 'May, you'll be fine.' Brianna giggled. 'You'll get used to it, believe me. I had the constant rush of anxiety in my stomach when I first went to prom.' Brianna told her.
'But after a minute or ten I couldn't be bothered anymore. Let's go live a little!' And with a pat on her shoulder Brianna had run to the tables with food. May swallowed nervously. 'A little nervous?'
May turned around to see her very prom partner. Drew, in a dark blue tuxedo. His hair was beautifully combed, and he looked.. well, handsome. His green eyes pierced right into hers as blush crept upon Mays cheeks. 'N-No way, I'm not nervous!' May retorted, placing her hands on her waist.
A silence fell. May had excepted some sort of salty, rude remark like always, however he said something she had never expected. 'You look beautiful, May.' He whispered. May went red in the face. 'T-Thank you?' May shyly murmured, shielding her mouth with her hands. 'You.. look nice too, I guess.' She huffed.
Once again a silence fell. Though the constant music and chattering were present, the moment itself was utterly embarrassing; so May spoke up. 'So uhm.. Drew, is there something I can ask you?' May asked, lifting her head back up to look him into his emerald green eyes again. 'Sure, what's up?'
'Is it all right if my friend, Brianna, sticks with us for tonight? She doesn't have a partner, and.. since, well, I'm your prom date I couldn't help but feel so bad because she really likes you..' May mumbled shyly, glaring down at her feet. Drew however still looked into her eyes. He hesitated before answering. 'That's fine with me.' He said calmly.
May furrowed her eyebrows. 'Are you sure? Before you said you'd rather not be followed around by fangirls and.. considering she's a fangirl, I don't want to ruin this night for you just because I did something stupid.' May huffed. Drew sweetly smiled at her. 'May, It's OK. Brianna is sweet.' He ensured her. May nodded. 'Brianna is right over there.. let's go?'
Drew nodded as the two walked over to Brianna. 'Brianna!' May yelled. Brianna hesitantly turned around, and her cheeks flashed red when seeing Drew. She had waved at them before the partners approached Brianna. 'Mr H-Hayden..' Brianna whispered. 'Y-You look nice!' She grinned childishly. 'Hi Brianna. Thank you.' Drew smiled back at her.
'Uhm.. ahaha, I'll go grab some food!' May panicked as she marched over to a table further away. She had to offer Brianna some alone time with Drew. After all she had stabbed her in the back without even realizing— she had to make up for it somehow. Putting some deserts on her plate, she glared back at her two friends.
They seemed to be casually chatting, and, unexpectedly, Drew didn't seem uncomfortable at all: unlike she thought he'd be. Smiling warmly, she turned back around and proceeded to eat her snacks. Brianna seemed so happy around Drew. Seeing her so happy made her feel good, but.. she couldn't help but feel as if dark grey clouds hung above her.
But she deserved to feel that way after doing such a stupid thing. Finishing her food, she once again glared back at the two students before running over to them. 'Hey you guys! I'm gonna get some fresh air outside.. if that's OK with you?' May grinned. It seemed as if Drew was about to speak, however, Brianna cut him off. 'S-Sure!' She giggled.
Drew clenched his jaw and lowered his head before answering. 'Yeah.. sure,' He retorted, digging his hands into the pockets of his neat jeans. May childishly grimaced at the two before running off to the outside area. Drew sounded upset. He sounded upset.. what in the name of god was she doing?
After balancing on her heel she let herself fall into the steel railing before her. She was feeling mixed feelings. She truly wanted to make Brianna happy, though she refused to let Drew down either. Both of them had been so nice to her.. she never meant to hurt any of them. She sighed deeply to herself.
about ten minutes had passed by, and May was still outside glaring up to the night sky. The sad feeling in her stomach had only worsened. 'I'm such a bad friend..' she groaned to herself.
'You're not.'
In a whip May turned around to glare at the person behind her. It was Drew, cross-armed, his eyes glistening. 'I am, Drew. I'm selfish..' She murmured. 'I accepted your invite to prom while Brianna really really liked you. I stabbed her in the back, and the worst is that I didn't even realize.' May sighed.
Drew gave her a friendly pat on her shoulder. 'You might've, May, but that doesn't make you a bad person.' Drew exclaimed, smiling warmly at the brunette who was sulking above the steel railing. 'You always put yourself before others.. and I've seen just that.' He whispered, letting go off of her shoulder. 'Are you sure, Drew..? I bet Brianna is mad at me..'
Drew took a deep breath. 'She's not mad, May. I promise.' Drew told her, smiling at her once more. 'Brianna is a sweet girl. She'll forgive you, May, she always will.' He assured her, his eyes shutting for a brief moment. May took another breath. 'You're right, she's.. she is really kind and forgiving.. I just can't help but feel bad.'
Drew nodded at her. 'And that's okay. You can't do anything to undo what happened. Now what's best to do is accept how this ended, May. She's not mad.. if anything, she seemed well, happy when she mentioned the two of us were partners.' He exclaimed softly. May sighed again. 'I hope the way she's acting is genuine..'
Drew got closer to May. 'I can tell you it is, May.' He smiled at her. The two leaned in, as May inspected his lips. They looked.. soft.. this urge, this feeling, it was undeniable. May could smell Drew's soft rose scent. They got closer, closer, closer, closer..
'No May, don't be sorry for that! If anything.. I'm glad he's finally going to the prom for once. Even though, honestly, I would've rather had for him to go with me .. but I'm really happy for you, May, I mean it.'
May realized what she was doing. In shock, she backed away as her voice cracked. 'I... I.. I'm sorry!' She squeaked.
'May.. it's okay..' Drew murmured, his cheeks red, and his green locks shielding his emerald green eyes, causing for his facial expression to be barely readable. In embarrassment May squeezed her skirt. 'I'm.. so selfish..' she whispered.
Drew brushed his hand against his lips. 'You're not, May.' he protested, though his voice also slightly shook. 'You've constantly been so generous. Not just to me, but to your friends, too.' He admitted, his eyelids sinking. 'It's okay to pick the feelings of your own over that of others.' he murmured. 'It's okay to do what you want, May.'
May squeezed her eyes shut before looking back up at him. 'I guess.. I guess you're right..' she murmured, hesitant. Drew stretched his hand toward May. 'Now.. let's get back in.. and.. would you, maybe, dance with me?' He asked, politely dipping his head.
As if her worries had disappeared, she looked at Drew's outstretched hand, a feeling of relief filling her stomach. 'B-But I can't dance!' She yowled, 'Of course you can't, June. That's what I'm here for.' He grinned, playfully winking at May. May bit her lip angrily. 'Geez, you're so mean! If you know how to dance so well, then why don't you show me, Mr. I'm so great?!'
Drew grinned back at her. 'Sure thing.' laughed, grabbing her hand and pulling her back inside on the dance floor.
The prom night had finished. Both May and Drew had a great time. At a certain moment Brianna, Dawn and Kenny had joined them, and they were cracking jokes for a nice 20 minutes before the group had gotten tired enough and decided to go home.
May had nicely offered Drew to walk him back to his house. Though Drew politely declined, hoping that she would just return home and get some rest, May refused to take no for an answer and, well, kept on pushing until he had agreed for her to come along.
Now the two were calmly padding back to Drew's house. The sky was dark and clear, as plenty of stars exposed themselves in the sky, somehow appearing to shine brighter than normal. May was casually chatting while Drew just listened, staring ahead of him. 'It was so hilarious! I wish you could have seen the look on Max' face!' She laughed.
Drew just snickered lightly. 'I wish I had, yeah.' He said, digging his hands into the pockets of his jeans. The two continued their stroll as May could notice the two were now approaching Drew's very own street. It was quiet, some streetlights illuminating the place. 'Well... it was nice of you to walk along.' Drew huffed. 'Though, sort of, I couldn't reject anyway..'
May proudly grinned at him. 'Sure thing!' She giggled, giving herself a soft hit in the chest. Drew and May walked over to his house, as Drew dug up his keys out of his pockets before opening the door. 'I'll see you next week?' Drew suggested, smiling warmly again. May nodded. 'Yep! Next week!' She giggled, distancing herself from the door. 'Goodnight, May,' he said, about to shut the door close.
'It's okay to pick the feelings of your own over that of others. It's okay to do what you want, May.'
May furrowed her eyebrows, as suddenly, she knew what to do. 'Wait, Drew!' she yelled out, as Drew fully opened the door again. 'Hm? What is it, June?' He asked, leaning against the door. May took a deep breath before rapidly marching over to him. She kissed him on the cheek and backed off. 'Thanks for tonight!' she yowled, her cheeks red, as she turned around and sped off, waving once.
Drew's face turned red as he lifted his hand up to the cheek where she had kissed him. Had she just.. kissed him? on the cheek? His heart heavily thumped in his chest as he felt dizzy. She kissed him... she kissed him.. on the cheek. He took a deep breath before yelling out again. 'Good night, May!' He yelled, watching as the brunette disappeared out of sight.
Drew swiftly closed the door as he fell back into it. Yes, this really was one of the best prom nights ever. With his heart still beating in his throat, and his cheeks still red, he sunk down to the floor. This was one of the best prom nights ever, and he would cherish it.
