May happily marched through the halls with her backpack on her back. Like any other day it was a busy school day. The entire school was filled with students, unlike a day ago when there were activities. She wondered if that was the reason she hadn't seen Dawn. 'May!'
May whipped around at the familiar voice. A happy bluenette by the entrance of the school was happily waving at her. It was Dawn! With her frown cracking into a large smile, she headed over to her friend. 'Dawn, hi!' She greeted her enthusiastically. 'I didn't see you yesterday.. did you go on a trip?'
Dawn gave a quick nod. 'Yeah! Our mentor took us to some museum where we had to learn about history. I thought it'd be boring but it turned out a lot of stuff there was interactive and fun!' Dawn chirped happily, tossing her bag over her shoulder that was previously standing before her shoes.
'...Oh! You won't believe it!' May perked up as soon as a thought entered her mind. 'Huh?' Dawn frowned curiously, furrowing her eyebrow. 'You know Brendan? Turns out he recently joined this school! You don't know how surprised I was when I bumped into him...' May giggled, repositioning her backpack.
'For real? Brendan? You mean that old childhood friend of yours?' Dawn murmured in surprise. '...Didn't you have a crush on him, too?' she said in a hushed tone, accusingly narrowing her eyes at her as her smile grew into a grin. 'Huh? That used to be in the past..' May gasped as she grinned halfheartedly.
Dawn nodded. 'Ah, right!' Dawn uttered, her eyelids dropping before her eyes. 'Because you're into Drew now, right?' She joked, giving her a playful shove in the shoulder. 'W-Whaaat? Drew? No way!' May denied, shutting her eyes close. 'I don't like him. he's a jerk!'
Dawn dryly sweatdropped at her, not exactly trusting what was coming out of her mouth. 'Sureeee...' she pouted, looking into her eyes looking for any sort of spark of dishonest. 'Don't look at me like that!' May blushed, hiding her mouth with her hands. 'I.. don't like him.. I think..' she whispered. 'Fine, if you say so.' Dawn replied, not having heard her last two words.
'Oh! I forgot to ask you, are you ready for the tests next week?' Dawn inquired curiously. 'Sure am! Last weekend I've been studying from dawn to dusk, you don't want to know.' She said with a playful wink. 'I don't think I want to know, yeah. I might spend some extra time studying. Have been busy.'
May grinned. 'You're always busy. Anyway, I should probably get going. Class should be starting soon,' May smiled widely, as Dawn looked a little panicked. 'Oh, right! I need to be on the highest level of the building, so I probably should hurry up!' she croaked nervously, making a sprint to the staircase. 'See you, May!' And with a wave she had run off.
May gave her an enthusiastic wave, trying to be seen before she had turned her back to run up the staircase. She was rooted to the spot for a second before she realized it would be a good idea she'd make her way to her class, too.
With her backpack over her shoulder she absentmindedly walked over to the staircase, tiredly making her way up. Though she hadn't gone this school for that long she had gotten used to where her classrooms were, which made it less difficult to make her way through the building.
Absentmindedly glaring at her feet as she marched through the halls, she was caught off guard when she bumped into something. Immediately greatly embarrassed she scrambled backward and clumsily falling down before looking up to the person she had bumped into. She thought she'd see some random student, but to her surprise she saw too emerald eyes gazing into hers.
'You need to watch your step more often, May,' The familiar student in front of her teased. May rubber her head with a groan leaving her mouth. 'Argh... I should, huh..' she admitted, trying to scramble back up until she noticed Drew had outstretched his hand toward her. May blinked before shyly accepting his hand.
'Heh.. thanks..' she muttered once she was back on her feet. Only gazing into Drew's eyes made her remember the few times she and Drew had kissed. Realizing she had been staring, she shyly made a few steps backwards. 'So... you ready for class?' she mustered, desperately trying to change the subject.
Drew nodded, the previous grin still on his face. 'Of course I am, why wouldn't I be?' He commented sassily, picking up on her masking her embarrassment in a desperate attempt. '...Just.. just curious.' May grimaced awkwardly, the blush on her face hard not to notice. '...Well, are you?' Drew then asked.
May felt Drew pore over her as he looked awfully smug like always. 'I am! Why wouldn't I be!' She bawled, a little caught off guard by the question. 'Because you just tripped and I'm curious wether you're okay or not.' He excused, though the smirk present on his face gave away that wasn't exactly his intent.
May brushed some dust off of her skirt before looking back up at him accusingly. 'Well, thank you, I'm just fine!' She commented bitterly, crossing her arms before making a sassy turn and running into the classroom. Drew grinned. 'Wait there, princess! Don't run, or you'll trip again!' He yelled out to her, receiving a loud groan back.
May was recklessly sketching around in her notebook, full on ignoring all the students around her were rambling on about. She couldn't help but think of Drew every so often— neither could she forget about their multiple embarrassing situations.
The mere memory of the way he grins so often made her put her pressure on the pen a little harder. She perked up when the class went silent and she heard the teacher speak up. 'Silent, all of you,' the teacher confided. 'We need to discuss what you guys need to now for the upcoming exams next week.' He concluded before pointing at the whiteboard again.
'Pythagorean theorem. We've discussed this over the past few months and finally you'll be getting the test of it,' he announced as May deadpanned and carelessly continued on sketching. She'd taught this Drew the other day without having to have a single peek in her math book. But Drew on the other hand..
Looking over at Drew, she could notice he looked a little tense. May knew it was one of the very few subjects that he was struggling with.. in any case she'd love to help him out considering the pythagorean theorem was one of the subjects she had no trouble with at all.
Yes, she'd ask him after class if she could help him. After all, as much as she didn't like to admit it she'd grown a lot of appreciation for him, especially after he had worked so hard back when she had to tutor him for a project.
'All right then!' The teacher broke off her train of thoughts. 'That should be the end off class! Make sure to carefully reread and practice everything you've worked on the past few months!' The teacher concluded as all the students immediately grabbed their bags and stormed out of the classroom.
She reflexively looked over at Drew, who had calmly placed his backpack around his shoulder. She watched him pass by her table, and, seeing by the way Drew was looking ahead of him he felt worried, she could easily tell.
She lifted herself up from her seat before following Drew out of the classroom. 'Drew?' May mustered, but loud enough for the green haired student to hear her. Drew turned around in surprise. 'Huh? May? What's up?' He asked, furrowing his eyebrow. May looked into his eyes. 'We've got the pythagorean theorem test next week..' she noted.
Drew nodded. 'I know.' He retorted quietly. 'Are you ready for the test?' May inquired softly and sweetly, hoping not to irritate him. 'Yeah, I hope I am. I guess I just need to do some extra studying later.' He added, coolly placing his hand on his waist. May gave him an approving nod. 'Sounds good. Drew, if you ever need any help just let me know, okay?'
Drew's frown shifted into a smile as his lips curved upward and his eyes lit up. 'Thanks, May. I think I'll be fine though. But if I need any help I'll let you know.' He murmured shyly, a little bit of red tinting his cheeks. 'Please do!' May assured him, pumping her fists. 'And I know you can do it, Drew! I believe in you!'
Drew's eyes widened slightly, his cheeks only reddening. '...Thanks. I'll try my best.' He breathed, before turning around. 'See you around.' He managed to muster. Though he looked calm and collected on the outside, he was rather happy on the inside. Sometimes he had no clue how to thank her for being there for him.
'Bye, Drew! See you during next class!' She waved him bye, a smile present on her lips. May hoped Drew knew that she appreciated him being around, and she also hoped he knew she'd be there for him.
Drew felt uplifted, as if all his worry had been drained out of him. Perhaps it was May cheering him on that made him feel this way.
Just only remembering how widely she smiled as she assured him it'd be alright made his heart flutter. She was too much of a nice girl, much nicer than any other girl he'd known over the past drew years. Sure, Solidad was also somewhat kind, but he didn't get to talk to her all that much. Probably because she lived so far away..
Drew sighed in relief to himself. He hadn't realized how special May had become to him — at first it started as somewhat of a rough rivalry, the constant bickering.. but now they were getting to really know each other. He had noticed that deep inside she was such a kind and klutzy girl.
He'd have to ace this test. But was that for himself or for May's approval and her reaction if he were to do well on the test at all? He of course had to do it for himself, too, but.. he felt like May being proud of him would feel much more rewarding than just some decent grades so he could pass.
Drew instinctively reached for the rose charm that had been sewed on his jacket. He remembered how May had giving it back to him after he had lost it. She had sworn she wouldn't stand with him playing around with her friend, Brianna. He was a little surprised by her protectiveness at first.
A small smile spread across his face again as he was determined to work hard on studying for his test. 'I'll have to study in the library after school today,' Drew mustered to himself before reaching his hand up to scratch his neck.
May continued her march through the halls, ready to head downstairs to get some lunch in the cafeteria. She was in a hurry in the morning, so she didn't get to eat anything. However, she was stopped when she heard her name being called. 'Hey, May!'
May paused before making a turn around, eventually met with a panting Brandon in front of her. 'Oh! Brandon, hi!' May greeted her friend happily, intently looking at him catching his breath back. 'Hey! I've got a question..' He panted, dropping his backpack next to his feet.
May nodded. 'What's up?' She inquired, playfully making a bow to look at him. 'Are you perhaps free today to help me study for math? Since I've joined in the middle of the school year I didn't get any help on the math... and I've got a test soon.. I have asked Brianna if she'd help me, but she's cheerleading after school and wasn't available..' He grinned shyly. May's mouth shifted into an 'O' shape.
'Sure! No problem, Math is no problem for me!' She said proudly, giving herself a soft pat on the chest. Brandon laughed. 'Don't get too cocky. I just remembered you always had good grades for math, that's why I wanted to ask you.' He grinned, placing his hand down on his beanie.
May smiled. 'When're you free to study? I don't have any plans for the rest of the week, so you just suggest a time and I'm sure I'll make it!' She said enthusiastically, along with a happy wink. 'Have you got time after school?' Brendan suggested. 'Sure! You wanna study in the library?' May beamed.
Brendan have a quick nod in acknowledgement. 'Sure, that'll work! I gotta go now though, I promised Brianna I'd hang out with her...' he grinned, pulling his heavy backpack back on his chest. 'Ooh! Okay, have fun! I'm glad you and Brianna are getting along! At first she was real shy, you don't want to know.' She giggled.
Brendan let out a soft chuckle. If he wasn't mistaken his cheeks were a little red. 'I mean, she is really kind,' he answered shyly. 'Anyway, got to go. Can't let her hanging in there.' He concluded with a sheepish grin. 'Gotchu! You go hurry up, I'll go search for my friend so we can eat lunch. I'm starving.'
Brendan let out an enthusiastic laugh. 'All right! See you after school, May!' Brendan waved her off before walking down the stairs. 'Bye!' May yelled, ready to head down for some good lunch in the cafeteria as well.
With her backpack on her shoulder she marched over to the library. Finally the rough school day had come to an end — and she was totally ready to give Brandon some tutoring!
'Hey, Brendan!' She greeted her friend who perked up on hearing his voice. He turned his head to look at the excited brunette. 'What's up!' Brendan excitedly waved back at her and waited until she had made her way to her table. 'Ready to get to studying?' May chirped happily.
Brendan nodded. 'Yeah! I've got my books with me, would you look. This is what I've got to study.' He pointed at his book, showing the pythagorean theorem. May's eyes widened before she let out a chuckle. 'Ooh, the pythagorean theorem! Explaining that will be no trouble,' she boasted, sitting down beside him. 'Again, don't get too cocky, Maple.' He snickered lightly.
'All right!' May sweatdropped, realizing she had gotten a little too much on her high horse. 'Okay. So this is how it's going to work...'
After explaining Brendan seemed to get a hang of it. They were now making some exercises that Brendan had in his book, and May was helping him making it through them.
'So that means...' he mustered, continuing scribbling down his calculations. 'Yeah! You're getting it!' May smiled widely, giving Brendan a playful nudge in the shoulder with her elbow.
Drew lazily marched into the library. He had planned to study some more for his upcoming math test he was unadmittedly pretty nervous about. He wanted to show May he was able to get good grades.
Drew lift his head back up to look around the library, but was surprised when a familiar brunette was sitting a few tables in front of him. At the other side of the table was a brown haired guy with a white beanie. And it was obvious they were chatting.
Were they friends? He hadn't ever seen the guy before. He felt a feeling of jealousy seep into his stomach. He felt a little irritated, but why? Is it because he was talking with May? What were they even talking about?
Slyly he made his way closer to the tables May and the boy were sitting at. With furrowed eyebrows he proceeded to eavesdrop what they were talking about.
'You genuinely think I'm getting the hang of it?'
'Yes, absolutely! For starting just now you're doing great!'
'Ah, thanks! Do you think I'll manage to get a decent enough grade for the test if I study a little more? My parents are going to kill me if I don't... heh..'
'That you'll manage? Of course you will! Give it your best and you'll ace it, I know it! And, hehe, even if you don't, you still tried your very best and that's what important!'
'You're right.. thanks, May. Yes, I'll do my best! Your explanations have already helped out a ton!'
'Heh! Glad I'm able to help, Brendan. I'm here to help anytime, so if you ever need some good tips 'n tricks you can let me know!'
'Thanks, May!'
She was talking to him so sweetly. Was this how she acted towards every guy? Was this some sort of special treatment? As much as he wanted to know, he didn't.
Drew clenched his fists. Though he didn't feel angry, he more felt hopeless. What if she was too good for him? Who knows, maybe the way she treated him was normal, like how she interacted with every other student out there.
But she had kissed him before. If she wasn't interested in him at all, would she have? He let his head sink, observing the two happily chatting on and about. He had to stop it.
Regaining his composure he coolly dug his hands into his pockets and marched over to the two. 'Hi, May.' He put on a grin, hoping to mask his feeling of jealousy. 'Oh! Drew, hi!' She greeted the green haired boy happily.
'What'cha doing?' Drew asked, dropping his bag on the ground and leaning against the table. 'I'm helping my friend here practicing for his tests! I'm sure you're here to study too?'
Drew rose his hand up into the air to flick his fringe out of his eyes. 'Of course. You did a poor job at explaining last time, so I'm going to have to teach myself.' He jested, a huge smirk present on his lips.
May sweatdropped. It appeared as if she was about to comment dryly on Drew's remark, until Brendan stopped her. 'A poor job? She's doing her best!' He defended her, narrowing his eyes at Drew accusingly.
Drew suddenly felt all the smugness leave his body as his confident stance weakened. He let his bangs fall in front of his eyes. Instead of appearing proud, he looked rather irritated.
'Brendan, Drew was just joking..' May protested, a half-hearted smile spread across her face. 'I don't find that much of a funny joke..' Brendan retorted quietly, sounding much more worried now. 'Don't worry. I can take a joke!'
Drew didn't bother to comment. He just let his gaze roll to the side, avoiding making eye contact with the both of them. 'Why don't you join us, Drew? We're practicing the pythagorean theorem, and you surely could use some extra practicing for the test next week!'
Drew gave a soft nod before dropping his bag and joining them at the table. Though he was extremely jealous, the previous tension no longer hung around the air. Perhaps he didn't have a thing for May at all and he was just standing up for her?
After the three had studied for a bit, Brendan had to leave to make his way back home. Drew was somewhat quiet during the entirety of the study session, though he did listen in very carefully.
'I know you were just joking around,' May giggled lightly to herself. Relieved that Brendan had finally left, he felt comfortable enough to tease her again. 'I wasn't joking around,' he chimed playfully, hearing May let out a groan.
'You're so annoying, do you know that?' May mustered, bursting into a quiet fit of giggles, making Drew's grin turn into a genuine smile as his cheeks tinted a soft pink. 'I know. I live to be annoying.' He snickered back.
'If you mind me asking, who was that Brendan person?' He asked softly, curious if she felt anything for him. 'Brendans a good friend of mine! He used to be my neighbor, actually.' May grinned. 'He did?'
'Yep! We always used to hang out a lot,' May chirped, giving Drew a large smile as the two of them trotted off the stairs. 'But then I had to move and we kind of lost contact...' She grinned. 'But yesterday I found out he moved also!'
Drew sighed inwardly. 'Isn't that fun.' He mustered a little dryly, trying to sound as optimistic as possible. 'It is!' May made happy jumps off of the staircase, looking proud as a lion as she had stepped down on the ground and looking back up at Drew still making his way down.
'I was faster!' May beamed, letting out a proud huff as she sassily placed her hands on her waist. He felt his anger soften as she had made her way downstairs. 'Good job, May. But unfortunately I wasn't exactly participating in this race.' He grinned widely, coolly making his last step off of the staircase.
'But I was faster than you.' May croaked, furrowing her eyebrows. Drew let out a chuckle. 'True. You want a prize for your very fair victory?' He inquired, tilting his head to the left curiously. 'Am always down for a prize!' May chirped excitedly.
'I might have something in mind,' Drew huffed, lifting his finger up to his lip in a motion as if he was thinking. May curiously leaned in closer. 'Oo! You do?' She murmured, the smile on her lips widening by the second. Drew nodded. 'What is it?'
Drew leaned in and quickly placed a kiss on the corner of her lips, his cheeks immediately reddening at the feel of May's soft lips. As soon as he backed away he could notice May red-faced and her knees buckling. 'O-Oh! Oh! Oh.. u-um!' She was blushing madly.
Drew gave her a shy nod. 'That's your prize.' He muttered calmly, though his voice quivered in nervousness.
May was extremely caught off guard by the sudden kiss, but she wasn't exactly mad. If anything, she felt a little fuzzy and warm on the inside, butterflies flying circles in her stomach. 'I... you... thanks..' she murmured, shyly drawing a few steps backward as she kept glaring at her feet.
'U-Um, good luck with practicing for your test, Drew! Bye!' She smiled widely, turning around and storming off, nearly tripping when she was about to make a turn around the lockers. Drew tried not to let out a laugh. She was so adorable, he couldn't help it.
'She was hanging around with some weird guy I've never seen around before,' Drew mustered a little frustrated, letting his fingers run through his hair. A familiar pink haired student on the other side of the videocall let out a chuckle.
'This is the first time I've ever seen you jealous,' the amused Solidad on the videocall giggled. 'This isn't exactly funny, Solidad.' He deadpanned back at her. 'I genuinely... I genuinely like her a lot. I don't want to be jealous but I am. I can't help it.'
Solidad smiled sweetly at her green-haired friend. 'Being jealous is something normal that we all feel sometimes,' she countered, her eyes fluttering shut. 'After all, what you feel for her is special, something you haven't felt with anyone else before. But doesn't that mean you can keep on trying to get closer to her?'
Drew's eyes widened. Solidad was right. Just because there was another guy didn't necessarily mean that she liked him, neither the other way around. Drew put on a soft smile. 'You're right, Solidad. Thank you.'
Hiya! Sorry for taking awhile to write the next chapter. I've been busy with school and exams.
But considering it's been awhile since I put out my last chapter I thought I'd make this chapter a bit longer.
I hope this chapter was good enough, I really gave it my all. :))
