hey! sorry for not updating in a bit.. i got sick, and i was a little clueless on about what to write, but with support of someone very special I felt good enough to get back into writing :D
usually when I want to write a chapter I just take time to brainstorm some ideas what I want the chapter to be about, usually when on walks or just laying in my bed, and then I think everything out and I write along the lines of that! except I haven't gone out much since I got sick, and i'm way too tired to brainstorm in bed without falling asleep..
considering I haven't brought out a chapter in a bit, this chapter should be longer than average. (A/N: as I'm writing this, above 5000 words :)) (UPDATE! 6000 words.. get ready) as a little treat for not updating for a bit. when i first started out with this story i usually brought out like a chapter every 4 days, and now it's taking me weeks. sorry about that. enjoy!
Drew flicked his pen impatiently on his table, his eyes glued stuck to the scribbled on paper in front of him. He wasn't necessarily enjoying studying, but.. he felt motivated enough, perhaps he sought praise from May — or some satisfaction of his own.
He hadn't even bothered to adjust the light in the room so he could properly see the paper that was scribbled on. It was dark outside, and his daydreaming had kept himself out of his concentration, so much he could barely read all he had written down. The test would be next week, and he had been preparing for it. Not as much as he'd originally told himself, though.
He drowsily kept on looking at the paper — and he would've forever if it weren't for his phone vibrating. Snapping out of his absence, he turned his head to look at his phone, his eyebrows furrowing as he looked at the screen lit up. Beneath the time a notification could be seen, he had to slightly narrow his eyes to not to be bothered by the harsh light of the phone. in semi-bold letters he could see a familiar name.
may
hi Drew! Watcha up to?
He squinted his eyes again, not really realizing May was the one who had sent him a text. The two hadn't exchanged much messages ever since May gave him her number, so this came as a bit of a surprise. Coming to the realization that the brunette was the one that messaged him, he almost fumbled trying to click on the message.
nothing much. just doing a bit of studying for the test next week. what about you?
That was as simple as he could state it. He was just studying — though, of course, he wouldn't admit he was zoning out every so often. But could you blame him? Math wasn't the most entertaining subject out there, there were more important and effective things he could be doing.
May
studying this late? ( ◕ ⋏ ◕ ) I know you're set on getting a good grade for the test, but you shouldn't overwork yourself!
He was a little caught off guard by that response. He hesitantly held his fingers over the keys on his phone, trying to think of what to respond, barely realizing he had started smiling down at his phone screen unconsciously. So she did really care.
I won't, don't worry. I was about to stop in a bit, I'm getting a little tired if i'm being completely honest
He wanted to reassure her he wouldn't overwork himself to prevent any lectures, even though, really, he wasn't really planning to stop studying yet. He toggled on the lamp beside his desk, which now lighted up the room ever so slightly, and showed the text he had written being a little messy. He heard a notification again.
May
Okay! That's a relief! ( ꈍᴗꈍ ) Because just so you know Hayden, I'm not gonna let you overwork yourself for some silly test, okay?
He perhaps felt a little overjoyed, as he closed his book almost immediately, toggled the light off again and glided over to his bed before letting himself fall into the mattress, holding his phone above his head. He proceeded to reply.
what are you up this late for?
Yes, might've been a little ignorant of a reply, but he was a little shy to make a remark about the comment. And anyway, he was also curious why she was up this hour. 12am isn't the best time to be staying awake, at least not when you've got a long day of school ahead of you once you wake up.
May
Nothing much. I just can't sleep :,3
He understood that, if a little bit. He had been having messy nights of his own. But his first instinct wasn't to text some random person, he'd just attempt to fall back asleep — why would she text him? He wasn't exactly the most exciting person to talk to.
and you decided to text me?
He felt a little nervous asking for it, but he felt like he'd be a little more satisfied knowing he wasn't that boring as he thought he always had been. Short on replies, a dry tone every so often..
May
yeah! you're fun to talk to!
Drew felt his lips part in surprise, a gasp escaping his mouth — though it was much rather a mere breath. He was fun to talk to? Since when? If he was right, he was always the one poking fun at her, or being the most dry person ever. He was a little stuck on what to reply.
I know.
And now all he had to do was wait.
May
don't get too cocky, Hayden! \(`0')/
A soft laugh escaped between his lips. Just like one moment he could be nonchalant and dry, she could be excited one moment and fuming the other. That was always something he felt stuck out a lot. He rolled over to his side, his bangs falling over his eyes.
I think you should go sleep.
Drew felt himself blink ever so slowly, his pace of texting becoming slower by each message. He felt relaxed and at ease, maybe just by this short yet fun chatting with May. The corners of his lips were still stuck up into a subtle smile, that to him felt like were in its place for a bit too long.
May
And you?
I'll go sleep in a bit.
May
but you'll be exhausted tomorrow! you should go sleep as well! (。•́︿•̀。)
Really May, I'll be okay.
He felt himself soften at simply the sound of concern he could pick up in her text. Not to mention the little emojis she sent along — it was almost adorable.
May
Nuh uh! I know what lack of sleep did to you last time! I'm not going to sleep unless you are! :(
Drew sighed lightly to himself, though his smile was still present. She looked out for him so well, he felt a little honored that she'd stay awake purely because he was as well. He felt himself soften at her message, as he felt like it was best to go along with it.
You know what? Sure, I'll go sleep. You're a little too caring tonight, maple.
May
( ≧∀≦ ) don't think anything of it! I just don't want you to walk around like a ghost again, that's all!
Drew smiled.
Alright. Goodnight, see you tomorrow
May
Goodnight! Sleep well! (◍•ᴗ•◍) 3
Goodnight. :)
May was sitting at the dinner table, hastily stuffing her toast into her mouth. 'Can't you take it a little slow?' her little brother behind her commented. 'No, I need to hurry up!' May said, swallowing the last chunk of food, 'Or else I'll be late!' She scrambled off of the chair before storming over to grab her bag.
'You wouldn't have been late if you didn't decide to sleep in 30 minutes late,' Max commented grumpily, crossing his arms while leaning back into the sofa. 'I told you Max, I didn't sleep well!' She hissed back, tossing her bag over her shoulder. 'If I didn't sleep in a little longer I would've been tired!'
Max gave her a nonchalant shrug. 'Whatever.' He commented ever so dryly, making May pout. '...Sigh.. anyway, I'm going to be heading for school! Enjoy your free day off, all right? Don't play any naughty tricks while mom and dad aren't home!' She pointed her finger accusingly at Max who was sprawled over the couch. 'I'm not going to do anything stupid! Stop talking to me like you're my mom!'
May happily grinned at Max before sticking her hand up into a wave. 'Well, bye!' She chirped, flat out informing his comment, before opening the door and stepping outside. She slammed the door shut as soon as Max could even reply. She had to head on over to school, she couldn't waste any time on arguing with her pesky little brother.
The sleeping in thing hadn't bothered her much at all, though she could tell Max however was slightly stressed by her pacing around the house at full speed. But she couldn't help it, after that sweet text conversation with Drew that night she was a little bit too happy to just fall asleep right on the spot.
Talking about Drew, as soon as she had woken up she immediately reached to grab her phone, secretly hoping Drew would text her again in the morning. With no avail though, which didn't come to May as a surprise or disappointment since that was something she'd expect from him. He always had been a bit standoffish after all...
Eventually May made her way to the train station while running. Panting, she came to a halt at the train station. However, her face dropped when she looked at the trains schedules. 'You're kidding! The train is delayed 15 minutes?' She scratched her neck. 'But Dawn's waiting for me..' she groaned to herself.
Every so often in the morning she'd meet up with Dawn a little early so they could hang out before classes started. And she didn't want to be late to talk to Dawn, and now, with the train being delayed, she'd definitely be. If anything, she was sure that as soon as she'd be at school Dawns classes would have already started. 'Guess I'll have to let her know we can't hang out this morning..' she pouted, taking out her phone.
Dawn, who was right on the outside of the entrance of the school, was waiting for May. Though it would definitely take sometime until she'd arrive, she'd found herself a nice spot to wait, and was quietly nibbling on some snacks she'd hidden in her backpack — and a familiar person next to her.
'I wonder how May is doing with her tests,' Dawn thought out loud, hardly even bothered by the presence beside her. She perked up however when her phone vibrated. Curious, she took out her phone. 'Huh? It's May?' Dawn muttered, knitting her eyebrows. '...May? What'd she text you?'
Dawn let out a pout. 'No way! Her train got delayed again!' She sighed. 'Guess we can't hang out this morning, then...' she gasped, sadly stuffing her snacks back into her backpack. 'Considering I won't see May until after the next classes, I might as well go study in the library... how about you, Drew? Why'd you follow me here anyway?'
The green haired student just looked back ahead, his eyes blinking every so often, dismissing her question. 'Oh, I get it. You're here to wait for May. That's nice of you!' Dawn cooed happily, pulling up her bag and wrapping it around her shoulder. 'Say hi to her for me when she arrives, okay?' Dawn inquired.
Drew turned his head to look back at her. 'Sure,' he remarked, digging his hands to his pockets. Dawn said her byes to Drew before heading over to the library. And now Drew was standing there, all on his own, waiting for May. He'd never admit it to anyone, but the conversation they had shared last night made him excited to see her again. He hadn't even noticed he started smiling unconsciously thinking of her messages.
Yes, it'd surely take long before May would even step foot on the school property, but he'd wait. He'd gladly wait to see her. The school was quiet around this time anyway, and he didn't have to be worried about people chasing him around. No matter how cold it had become outside, he proceeded to wait.
May let out a sigh as soon as she hopped off of the train. Making a sprint to the school property, she hoped she wasn't late for her own classes, which could start in a few minutes! She got herself closer and closer to the entrance, but her eyes slightly widened upon seeing a familiar figure in the distance. It was Drew.
'Drew?' May murmured, making her way to the green haired student that was waiting, his hands dug into his pockets. Drew however didn't reply, and just grabbed her hand. 'W-What're you doing?' She squeaked before letting out a groan as Drew dragged her along. 'If we don't hurry up we're late for class,' he concluded, but not in a harsh way at all. He almost sounded worried.
May felt blush creep onto her cheeks as his thumb grasped against her hands skin. 'Oh, right..' She giggled quietly, before looking back up at him. 'Why were you standing there anyway? Were you waiting for me?' She insisted rather hesitantly. '...I didn't want you to be late, so I'd thought I could make sure you'd arrive in class with me before you would be too late.' He admitted.
May smiled subtly at him. 'That's nice of you, but next time just head on over to class without me! I wouldn't be able to feel good if you were to get in trouble because of me,' she pointed out, still grinning sweetly at him. Still running, Drew turned his head to look at May, his lips almost immediately cracking into a smile upon seeing hers. 'Okay.'
The two soon made it to class, and right on time. The two entered the classroom, panting. The teacher turned around to look at the two. 'You two are just on time,' The teacher jested, '..You can go sit down, the lesson is about to start.' May nodded, before realizing her fingers were still laced through his — and her cheeks flashed a light pink. She hastily let go.
She immediately sped over to her friend, Misty, and sat down, her cheeks still burning in embarrassment. 'Woah, you're late. What happened?' Misty inquired, slightly leaning in ever so slightly to catch her answer in between the chatting of all the other students. '...My train got delayed,' May concluded as soon as she had regained her breath and sat down.
'Okay, but why was Drew with you? And more importantly, why were you two holding hands?' She grimaced at the brunette playfully, batting her eyes in a silly manner. May felt her heart thumping in her throat. 'I don't know! He was waiting in front of the school and just dragged me with him!' she countered, her eyes a little wide.
Misty shrugged. 'At least you're on time. You don't want to be late with ms. Foster, she'll send you to detention screaming.' Misty told her. '...Oh. I guess that's a relief, then.' May murmured before glaring back at the table. Is that why he pulled her along with him so hastily? Because he didn't want that to happen to her?
The bell rung, dismissing class. 'Well, that's the bell!' The teacher called out. 'Make sure you don't forget to turn in the homework before next week!' ms foster concluded, before majority of the students went storming out.
May observed as Drew calmly lift himself up from his chair and made his way to the exit of the classroom, giving May a glance behind his shoulder as he did so. 'He's pretty mysterious sometimes, isn't he?' Misty, who was sitting beside her and noticed her staring at him, commented. '...Yeah,' she murmured absentmindedly.
'..I- I've got to go!' May said hastily as she pulled herself up. '...I need to thank him for making sure we were in class on time,' she smiled sheepishly at her orange haired friend who let out a chuckle. 'I'll see you after break, then!' She waved May off as she made a sprint out the classroom, to run up to Drew who was taking his time marching through the halls. 'Drew!'
Drew swiftly turned around, his eyebrows knitting. 'May?' He murmured, digging his hands into his pockets. May grinned sheepishly. '...I wanted to thank you— for, you know, making sure I was in class on time.' She shyly hid her hands behind her back, telling herself not to look him in the eyes. 'It's no problem.'
'...Why were you worried about me getting late to class anyway?' she inquired ever so softly, following Drew as he turned back around and resumed walking to the staircase. 'Because detention on your own would be boring. In any case the both of us were late anyway we would both be locked up in detention, and it'd be less boring since you sure like to be around me.' he commented smugly.
'...Huh! No, I don't!' She hissed, her cheeks flaring a light pink. 'If anything, it'd be a nightmare! Remember the last time we got locked in a classroom?' She commented bitterly. 'You still can't admit that was secretly a lot of fun,' He placed a hand on his head, running his fingers through his locks.
'Graaah! It wasn't! In case you forgot, you were the one that slammed the door shut so that I couldn't get out!' She groaned. 'That doesn't change the fact that it was fun,' Drew countered, giving May a confident grin. 'I swear, Drew, you're so—'
'May!'
May paused. A familiar brown haired student came running up to her. 'Oh! Brendan, hi!' May smiled brightly as Brendan came to a halt before the two students. 'May, guess what!' Brendan panted, though he looked incredibly psyched. '...Huh?' May cocked her head at him in confusion. 'The math test! I got a perfect score!' he gushed, happily nodding at May.
'No way!' May giggled, her eyes slightly widening. She reached over to grab his shoulders and excitedly shook him around. 'That's awesome, Brendan! Good job!' The two friends burst out into laughter as May let go. 'I knew you could do it!' She said proudly, placing her hands on her waist. 'It was you doing the mentoring, in case you forgot!' Brendan insisted.
'But that doesn't matter! You got a perfect score!' She cooed. 'That doesn't happen much.' Brendan gave her a nod. 'About that, good luck on your math test! It was this week, right?' Brendan questioned, tilting his head ever so slightly. 'Yep! I'm totally going to ace it.' May boasted, a wide grin embracing her lips. 'You better,' Brendan chimed in.
Drew just silently observed the two. 'Well, I've got to go! I promised Bri we'd meet up, so...' He announced, turning around. 'Good luck with the test, May! And you too, Drew!' Brendan gave a confident wave before sprinting off to the staircase. As soon as Brendan was gone, May let out a relieved sigh. 'I'm happy for him!'
Drew coolly dug his hands back into his pockets. 'Yeah. Like you said, getting a perfect score doesn't happen so often,' he agreed, though a slight hint of coldness could be visible through his eyes. 'We better show him we can get a good grade as well! I'm gonna ace that test!' She grinned. 'We'll just see.' Drew said smugly. 'Are you implying i'm not gonna ace it?'
Drew just let out a snicker as he made his way to the staircase as well, an angry May following behind him. 'Hey! You're going to answer my question, mister!' She demanded as she managed to catch up to him. 'Really now? I think that's something I get to decide.' he countered, giving her a smirk. 'Grrr.' May groaned, quickly running down the staircase.
Drew just followed after. As much as he didn't like to admit it, he was jealous all right. He managed to get a decent score, while Drew himself had a lot of struggles with Math. He surely wouldn't receive that kind of praise if he didn't put his full amount of attention into it. So he decided he would. 'Hey May!' May turned around and angrily looked at him. 'What?' She pouted. 'Let's eat together.' At that May seemed to soften. '..O-Okay!'
The time of Drew's studying increased by... well, a bunch. He often overworked himself until past midnight, but he wanted to make sure he was 100% prepared for the math exam. May had been happily cheering him on, though she didn't know about his late night studying.
And tonight was like no different. Drew was sleepily sitting as his desk, desperately trying to hold his eyes open. The test would be just the next day, and he couldn't waste any more time. He really wanted to make both himself and May proud — which usually didn't happen when it came to math, which he struggled with.
1:30AM. Had he worked for so long already? He flicked off the lights and slowly stumbled over to his bed and let himself fall on the mattress. Almost instinctively he reached for his phone that laid on his bedside table. He could see a notification.
May
goodnight Drew! Good luck with studying! ^_^
A smile crossed his lips as he shifted around on the bed and dug the phone under his pillow, knowing that he'd do his best for sure.
It was the day. It was time he'd finally get his math exam. For a change he felt like he was decently prepared for something like a math test, since normally he'd just give up studying mid-way and come out with a terrible grade. He had the feeling that, possibly, he could ace this test.
Now he was waiting for May in front of the school entrance. He might've asked Dawn how late she'd arrive at school so he could meet up with her — it made his mornings surprisingly more fun. He dug his hands into his pockets, his eyes slightly widening as a familiar brunette stormed towards him, breathing heavily.
'What if i'm not on time?!' May screeched, barely even noticing it was Drew waiting for him. '...Waait. Drew?' She came to a halt before the him. 'Hi, June.' A large smirk graced his lips as May let out a few staggered breaths. 'Am... am I late?' She inquired, catching breath. It looked like she had run quite a bit. 'You're on time.' He smiled subtly.
May dramatically fell to the ground with her bag. 'Ah.. what a relief.. the train was delayed, so I was afraid i'd almost miss class... again...' she pouted, though her eyes widened ever so slightly once Drew had put out his hand to pull May back up. 'The trains sure like delaying themselves lately, hm? It's almost like they want me to drag you to class so you don't get detention.'
May deadpanned before hesitantly taking his hand and pulling herself up. 'Well,' she begun, brushing some dust off of her skirt, '—I don't know what's up with all the delaying, either.' She grudgingly crossed her arms, causing for Drew almost to let out a chuckle. 'Well, what're you waiting for? Let's head to class before we're actually late.'
As if realizing they had been talking for a bit too long, in a panic she grabbed his arm and tugged him along. 'You're right! Can't be wasting time!' She told herself, having no mercy with the tight grip on his arm. 'Sooo... you ready for the test?' He just asked, hoping to change the subject and slow her down. 'Yes, of course I am!' She said proudfully. 'You?'
Drew nodded. 'Yes, of course. I'll get a good grade. I've studied real hard.' May let go of Drew's arm. 'About that, it looks like you've studied a little too hard,' she insisted, slightly leaning to look under his eyes, 'You look awfully tired.' Drew immediately shook his head in denial. 'No, I'm fine.' he persisted with a bit of blush beneath his cheeks.
'Are you sure?' She furrowed her eyebrows, pulling her head always from his. 'Because I'm certainly not, you look exhausted— there's even bag under your eyes...' she pouted, knowing there was something he wasn't admitting. 'I was just up a little late studying. It's okay.' He tried to soothe her worried, dismissively shaking his hands. '...Okay.' May smiled sheepishly.
Drew lightly grabbed her by the wrist. 'Well, we better head on over to class and ace that test.' He grimaced, suddenly feeling more confident than he had felt in a while. May nodded. 'Oh, you're right!' She agreed, as she two continued to head to for the right classroom.
Drews face fell. With the paper strictly between his fingers, he could his score. And very clearly, too. 73 points? That was nowhere near a perfect score. It came as a surprise to him considering he had studied so hard, and felt awfully confident while making the test. Sure, this was much of a better grade than those that he got before, but...
A rough 73 points couldn't compare to a perfect score, ever. And May had been hyping him up, too, there was no way she couldn't be disappointed with such a score. Should he have studied harder? Maybe he just wasn't made for math — at least, he liked to believe so. A score like that wouldn't be valid if he was.
'Drew?' Drew perked up, hearing the familiar voice behind him. He folded the paper and hesitantly turned around, a faint grin covering his lips. 'Hey, May. How'd the test go? What score did you get?' He asked, trying to peek over her paper. 'It went great! I got 90 points!' She smiled cheekily. 'But I did study quite a bit, so it makes sense!'
She leaned in, 'And how about you?' She asked curiously, as all of Drew's smugness left his body. 'Well... about that..' He murmured ever so softly, his eyebrows furrowing into a saddening frown. May blinked worriedly. 'What'd you get, Drew?' She asked again, though she sounded much more soft now.
'I got 73 points,' he concluded, almost thrashing the folded paper in his hand. May just gazed at him. Though, unexpectedly, her lips, instead of shifting into a frown too, tugged itself upwards into a large smile. '73 points? Drew, that's awesome!' She lunged forward and tackled Drew into a hug. 'And you worked so hard, too! I'm so happy for you!'
Drew felt his knees weaken, not just because of sheer embarrassment, but also because of surprise. She wasn't upset? 'You're not upset?' He said out loud, only for May to let go. 'Huh? Drew, why would I be?' She inquired, tilting her head. Her eyebrows were knitted at him in confusion. '..It's nowhere near a perfect score, and I worked pretty hard.'
May immediately shook her head. 'Yes, it might not be a perfect score, Drew, but that's okay!' She grinned at him widely. 'You've had so much struggles with math, and this is... such a huge improvement!' She tried not to burst, as she happily pumped her fists. 'All the hard work— you've gotten such a good grade, Drew!'
Drew frowned before he smiled gratefully at the ecstatic brunette. 'May, thanks. I was a little worried it wouldn't be enough—' 'Dummy, why'd you think that?' May cut him off effectively, shyly shoving her hands behind her back. 'A 73 is such a good grade, especially when Math is a subject you've struggled so much with! And even if you didn't get the bestest of grade, Drew, you've worked so hard! I'm proud of you nonetheless!'
Sometimes the amount of her optimism surprised him, as well as this time. A smile chuckle passed his lips. 'Thanks, May. I guess 73 isn't that bad of a grade after all, isn't it? Still, wished I got something around 90 — would've been a little more rewarding.' He commented, his smile eventually shifting into a grin. 'Still, you should be proud of yourself too.' she gave him a light shove.
Drew chuckled lightly at her, and, eventually, May joined in laughing. 'Y'know what, Drew?' She started as her giggling died down. Desperately trying to wash his smile off of his face (he had been doing it too much, he felt his cheeks hurt), Drew furrowed his brows at May. 'Hm? What's up?' He hummed. 'I'll treat you with some ice cream after school! To celebrate.'
Drew, though he was happy, at the same time felt a little confused. A grin once again appeared on his face. 'What? Ice cream during the winter?' He retorted haughtily as he batted his eyes at her in a taunting manner. Mays cheeks flushed a light red. 'What, is eating icecream during the winter bad? it's still very delicious!' she opted.
Drew however just laughed, and it was starting to tick May off. 'Dreeew!' She scoffed, once again pushing him lightly in the chest, 'stop laughing, I'm serious!' May could barely keep her voice audible for Drew to hear, as his laughing only seemed to get louder. But, finally, after a minute his laughing died down. 'Though it is a little weird, sure.' He sighed happily. 'It's not weird! you're gonna love it once we try some ice creams!' 'Sure, June.'
A/N: double quotation marks are now going to be used instead of one!
"Hey! I'm sorry I'm late.." May pouted, panting, looking at Drew who was coolly standing near the entrance of the school. "It's okay. After all, I expected you to be a little slow, you can't ever hurry up when you need to." He jested, waving his hand in front of her face as she leaned in, fuming, probably about to give him a peace of her mind. "You're so infuriating!" May pouted.
Drew toothily grinned at her before retreating his hand. "I take it you're ready to go get those icecreams?" he queried, tilting his head ever so slightly. May nodded hastily, barely noticing she was fumbling with her bag. "Yes!" She concluded, throwing the heavy bag on her shoulders. "Are you sure you're not missing something?" He asked with a taunting grimace, his eyelids playfully lowering at her.
May puffed her cheek. "I am sure!" she protested, crossing her arms with and her eyebrows furrowing. "Really? Then I wonder whose book that is..." he commented, his gaze darting behind May's back. There was a history book on the floor, a loose paper sticking out of it. May turned around, only to freeze. "Eek!" she squeaked, before running over to the book. "How'd you know that this is my... I mean, I just didn't see it fall!"
Drew let out a chuckle as May quickly kneeled to the floor to pick the book up. Stuffing the book back into her bag, she shot him a forced smile, though it was obvious she looked annoyed. "Now that's done with, and I'm ready, let's get going?" she chirped. Drew nodded at her in approval. "Of course." He grinned, making his way through the door, not even bothering to wait for May to lift herself up from the kneeling position. "Hey! Wait!" she called out to him.
Drew looked behind his back. "Hm?" he hummed innocently, making May groan. "You didn't bother waiting for me!" She pouted, furrowing her eyebrow at him accusingly. "What? I thought you said you were ready." he retorted smartly, his grin widening. "You— I... ugh." she pouted, angrily walking past Drew. He could be a little too smug sometimes, she was a little done with him outsmarting her all of the time. "Your words, not mine!" Drew snickered.
The two headed outside and May grabbed her phone. "So where are we heading for the ice creams? Have you even thought of that in the first place?" He asked, curiously hanging over her shoulder. "..Actually, yes! I have!" May chimed, tapping on her phone, "We're going to head to the best ice cream shop in the entirety of the country, of course!" she huffed proudly.
Drew looked at her questionably. "..So you've gone to every single icecream shop in the entirety of the country?" He taunted her before May curled her lips. "..N-No," May protested, "I just know that the icecream that they have is the best icecream." She stated, sassily turning her head away from Drew. "Enough of your teasing though, let's get going." She reached to grab Drew's arm and tugged him along.
"So this is it?" Drew questioned, looking up at the small building that was covered in ivy. "Yep!" May answered happily, not hesitating before pushing the door open — automatically you could hear a little bell ring — and Drew followed suit. Behind the counter there was a young woman, whose eyes immediately brightened upon seeing May and Drew enter. "May! Hello!" The woman greeted her.
May hopped over to the counter. "Hi, Samantha!" She chirped happily at the woman that was scooping up icecream for another customer. "What, you know her?" Drew asked, leaning over the counter. "Yes! Drew, this is Samantha, a worker here! And Samantha, this is Drew, my friend!"
Samantha smiled brightly. "Hello! I assume you two are here for icecream?" Handing over the ice cream cone to the other customer. "Yeah!" May grinned, though her eyes widened upon seeing the icecream flavors. "...Sooo yummy.." She pouted at the flavors, and Samantha let out a chuckle. "So you're a well known customer? Why am I not surprised.."
May flashed her teeth at him. "Well, you're just—" She tried to defend herself, however she was cut off by Samantha. "So what will it be?" She inquired, cringing slightly at May balling her fists at him. As if her rage immediately disappeared, with wide sparkly eyes she turned back to Samantha. "Oh! Strawberry, please!" She beamed, grinning widely. "Coming right up!" She grabbed a cone and smoothly scooped up some strawberry icecream before pressing it into the cone.
Handing the icecream over to May, she turned to smile at Drew. "And what can I get for you? Unless you don't want anything." The waitress inquired, as Drew quickly took a look at the flavors. "..Ah, I'll take a vanilla, please." The green haired student gave the woman a gentle and handsome smile, and Samantha's cheeks slightly reddened. "Got it, I'll get right to it!" And like that she had scooped some
vanilla icecream into the cone. "Here you go," Samantha smiled warmly, pressing it into Drew's hands, her fingers temporarily brushing against hers.
Drew blinked at her before he smiled. "Thank you." Turning around back to May, he grinned. May furrowed her eyebrows at him, looking annoyed ever so slightly. "No problem! Have a great day, and hope to see you back again sometime!" Drew quickly looked behind his shoulder. "Of course! Bye!" He waved awfully playfully at the woman. May felt her eyelid twitch. As soon they stepped out, May decided to give him a piece of her mind.
"Getting awfully touchy with Samantha there?" May frowned at him, and Drew in return smiled innocently. "What do you mean?" He asked dumbly, tilting his head at her. "Don't pretend.. I— I saw that!" She pouted, placing her hands on her waist. "What? Are you jealous?" He shot her a playful wink before walking off with the icecream in his hand. May went red in the face. "W-Whaaa? No! No way!" She denied, following him.
Sitting down on a nearby bench, he coolly leaned back into it. May stumbled over to him, but before she could sit down she did the klutziest thing yet. Just like that, her cone slipped out of her hand, and fell down on the stone tiles. May gasped, her eyes watering. "Waaah! My precious icecream, no!" She dramatically kneeled down to peer at the icecream that was now smudged on the tiles.
Drew looked at her with widened eyes, "Still klutzy as ever," he murmured, though his words sounded a tad bit more dry than surprised. May let out a whine. "..Could you just stop teasing for just a second?" Her voice almost faltered, and a little worried, Drew bent over to look at her. It almost looked like she was about to cry. "..May? May.." He sighed, seeing the tears leak from her eyes. "Why don't we head back in and get another icecream for you?" Drew opted.
"But I don't have any money left! That was all I had with me!" May sobbed, wiping the tears from her eyes. Drew looked at her sympathetically — he didn't have enough money with him right that moment to buy something, either.. Shyly glaring back down at her again, he hesitated before asking. "..You can have mine," he offered, outstretching his hand with the cone wrapped between his fingers.
"..B-But I took you out for icecream myself, I can't let you have nothing!" She whimpered, brushing her hands under her eyes. Drew let out a sigh, his cheeks slightly reddening at his idea — but what else could he do? "Then we'll share this one." He opted, Mays eyes softening as she looked back at him. "..A-Are you sure?" she sputtered, her cheeks a light pink. "I don't have enough to buy an icecream for you, and besides, I can't let you have nothing after you've been so sweet today."
May blinked away a tear, before hesitantly reaching over to lick the icecream. Her eyes brightened upon tasting the icecream. "Sooo delicious...!" She squealed, lifting her head back up to smile at Drew, "Thank you for sharing with me!" She grinned toothily. "Of course." Though he was embarrassed, he leaned in to lick another bit of icecream. "..You're right, this is really good icecream." Drew stared slightly wide eyed at the vanilla ice cream.
"Of course, it's the best icecream in the entirety of the country, remember?" She giggled, happy to see he liked the icecream. May instead of licking this time took a small bite, except she immediately froze as she let go. "...Aaack...! Brainfreeze.." She pouted, dramatically bowing forward. "Be careful there," He whispered, pressing his lips to her forehead, where she was clutching it with her hands. "Instead just lick, will you?"
Red-faced, May shyly turned towards Drew. "O-Oh! U-Um, okay, t—thank you,' she spluttered, before shyly taking a lick again. She looked back up at Drew, pleading. Drew smiled softly before taking a lick of the icecream as well. And so it continued, and eventually the embarrassment slowly wore off.
"We really should come here more often," Drew grinned at her. "Just next time make sure to bring some extra money with you, seeing that you're such a huge klutz." He jested. May frowned at him. "What did you say! I'm not that big of a klutz! The reason I accidentally dropped the icecream was because.." she began, trying to defend herself, but instead failing as her voice trailed off. "..Because you were so not excited to eat it that you just didn't clumsily let it slip out of your hand?" Drew finished.
"Yes— I mean, no!" May panicked, wanting to stand up, except she almost fumbled. Regaining her composure, she breathed in. "I was just excited." May stated quietly, turning around to look at Drew. "...There's.. nothing else going on," May seethed through her teeth, her cheeks a light pink. "Thanks.. for letting me share. I'm sorry that I just.. dropped the icecream like that."
Drew smiled. "Don't stress it. Next time we come here we'll get another icecream for you, and I'll make sure not to drop it." He offered, giving her a light pat on the shoulder, "How about we get going? You look a little tired," He suggested, shyly taking his hand in hers. "Yeah.. thank you." May grinned cheekily at her green haired friend. "Hm?" He couldn't help but melt at her smile. "...No problem."
