Chapter 1 - Prologue

It was a beautiful day in the village of Konohagakure. The sun was shining without a care, and a few scattered, fluffy clouds were dotted across the sky. A gentle breeze blew through the area, rustling the treetops of the surrounding forest.

Life had been good for not only the civilians of the large, powerful village but for the residential Kunoichi and Shinobi as well. Since the end of the Fourth Great Shinobi War, the time of peace that followed had been as strong as ever and had lasted longer than previous diplomatic ceasefires.

It took some time for the population of the village to get used to the difference in skill sets, but slowly Kunoichi and Shinobi began to mingle with the civilians, building a stronger bond that had become strained over generations.

For Naruto Uzumaki, the so-called "Hero" of the Fourth Shinobi War, things had been a little difficult. While he always wanted peace between everybody, having it fulfilled was another thing. One tends to get a little bored when there isn't any action, and Naruto wasn't normally the one to sit back and enjoy things. He needed something to keep himself going and to pass the time.

"Ah~"

Sighing as he basked in the warmth of the sunshine filtering in through the treetops of the forest, Naruto couldn't help but reminisce about events that had long since passed.

How long it had been since he first became a Genin, his first 'true' mission that wasn't just a simple D-rank.

The smile on his face, normally so bright and charismatic, slowly faded. Unpleasant memories slowly started to filter in; drowning the happier, merry thoughts away in a tidal wave of depression.

Memories of those that had left him since. Hiruzen Sarutobi, his honorary uncle, even if he kept secrets from him. Next came the memories of Jiraiya, his beloved pervy-sage, then came all the countless bodies that he had to see during the War…

He could only try and repress a shiver that threatened to overtake his entire body.

Never again…

Shaking his head away from those thoughts, he suddenly heard the sound of a twig snapping somewhere behind him.

Closing his eyes, Naruto hummed softly to himself, "Who is it?" He questioned softly, wondering who was coming from the shadows behind him.

If they were here to cause trouble…

"N-Naruto-kun?"

"Oh, Hinata-chan," He murmured, a faint smile gracing his whiskered face as he spun around to face her.

Hinata was a beautiful young woman with a fair complexion. One of the most distinguishing traits of the young woman was her Byakugan - as was with most, if not all of the Hyuga clan - giving her featureless white eyes, that if one were unsuspecting or unknowing of her clan, might've thought that she was blind. Her hair was a beautiful, luscious dark blue that reached down to her lower back, with a few cute strands framing either side of her face, reaching down to her shoulders.

Her outfit of choice currently was a form-fitting light lavender, sleeveless kimono-style blouse with vertical lines, tied with a dark purple obi around her waist, and short dark navy shorts. She also wore thigh-high stockings - which Naruto loved more than he realized - with black, open-toed boots.

"What are you doing here?" Naruto questioned, "Not that I mind, of course," he spoke up, a faint blush covering his cheeks as he rubbed the back of his neck.

All Hinata did was titter. A sound so soft and melodious that it caused little shivers to run up and down his spine, "Am I not allowed to see my boyfriend?" She questioned, tilting her head with a teasing smile on her flawless face.

Naruto blinked, a little taken aback by Hinata's boldness, "Uh, rather bold of you, Hinata," he murmured.

She wasn't normally this bold, but… maybe it was just an effect of her confidence growing over the past few weeks.

Hinata didn't say anything, instead, she just opted to make her way even closer to Naruto. Once she was within arms reach, she just opened up her arms, before falling into Naruto's embrace, lovingly wrapping her arms around his back, and gently nuzzling her face into Naruto's chest.

"Ah, uh," With the faint blush on his cheeks slowly deepening, Naruto could feel his heart starting to hammer within his chest. Even though they had been dating for nearly two months now, affection of this kind was still very, very new to him.

What if he messed up? Or…

Feeling Naruto's discomfort and how rigid his entire body seemed to be, Hinata murmured, "Just enjoy it, please," taking a few moments of pause to just enjoy this for a little while longer.

Naruto just shrugged his shoulders before finally relaxing into the embrace, and slowly wrapping his arms around Hinata's back, squeezing down ever so slightly before lifting her off the ground a few inches.

Naruto didn't know how long they stayed like this, just enjoying each other's company. The sound of nature, the sound of the birds singing the songs of their people, the gentle breeze of the wind slowly flowing through the area, ruffling their clothing and their hair.

But sadly, all good things must come to an end. Slowly unwrapping his arms from around Hinata, Naruto just looked down at her, "Thanks for coming to see me, Hinata-chan," he murmured, a small smile on his face, "That was-"

Naruto was speaking when suddenly Hinata interrupted him, saying, "Please, die for me." Naruto was shocked to hear such a cold command from Hinata, whose voice had always been soft and melodic. Although he thought he might have misheard her, he felt something in his soul telling him otherwise.

Naruto coiled up, ready to defend himself, and looked Hinata in the eyes. However, her eyes were not the gentle, loving eyes he was used to seeing. Her left eye radiated pure power, with concentric circles and six tomoe, while her right eye radiated pure despair, with a blood-red pupil containing a shuriken-like shape in a brighter flower petal pattern.

Before Naruto could even speak, he felt a sharp burst of pain coursing through his body. He tasted blood in his mouth and spat it out onto Hinata. Glancing down, he saw Hinata's hand, crackling with deep red electricity that was also scattering darkened embers down onto the ground, pierced through his chest, and his heart.

Hinata's bloodied form in front of him suddenly shifted, almost like it was melting down into nothing but a puddle of goo seen in the darkest of nightmares before another shape started to slowly take form from the mess. It didn't take too long, the gooey-like substance slowly morphed into a figure that Naruto knew all too well.

His friend… the person whom he called brother privately… the person in whom he fought for his life on many, many occasions… and of course, his comrade in the War.

"Sasuke," Naruto murmured, before clenching his eyes shut as pain seared through his body once more, causing even more blood to splatter free from his gritted teeth, "W-why?"

Peaking open his eyes, and looking through the darkness that was rapidly closing in on him, he could just barely see the tears slowly dribbling from Sasuke's eyes, "I… I," he suddenly closed his eyes, unwilling to see the light leaving the eyes of his… brother and his friend, before speaking once more.

But, it was like all of Naruto's senses had suddenly failed him. He could barely see Sasuke's mouth moving, but he couldn't hear anything escaping his mouth. All he could hear was his own blood gushing free from his body.

Taking one last shuddering breath, all the strength in his body sapped from him. Unable to keep his eyes open for a moment longer, his legs suddenly buckled underneath him as all of his weight started to turn into dead weight.

Collapsing to the blood-soaked ground with a solid *thump*, Naruto lay then, in a pool of his own blood, the slow twitching of his limbs soon left him.

All Sasuke could do was stare at his own bloodied hand, his ice-cold heart fracturing even more than it was.

Shedding one last tear that fell into Naruto's blood, Sasuke vanished from sight, leaving the dead body of Naruto behind.

It would be quite a shock for the poor man or woman to stumble into the horrific sight.

And one thing was for certain; the Elemental Nations would never be the same again.

Naruto had certain expectations about death. He thought it could be either complete darkness or reliving the same life over and over again. But when he opened his eyes, he realized there was something beyond death.

He looked down at himself and found that the hole in his chest was gone, and his clothes were not torn or damaged. Instead, they had a weird glow to them. He saw bright, fluffy clouds all around him, some of which were forming shapes of trees and mountains. The ground underneath him was pristine and shiny, with tiles that extended as far as he could see.

He heard soft, upbeat music that was pleasant to the ears, and he felt a calming sensation all over his body. However, he had no idea where he was.

"What the?" he muttered to himself, turning around and noticing the glass-like sounds underfoot that made the hairs on his neck stand up.

*GULP*

He felt a sudden gulp, as his entire vision was filled with an enormous, golden, intricate gate that stretched as far as the eye could see in both directions. The gate had small gaps that allowed him to glimpse a grandiose city beyond it. He couldn't resist tilting his head slightly upon seeing it.

As he craned his neck upwards, he shivered at the sight of a bright white symbol above the gate, which vaguely resembled an eye and seemed to be peering down at him. Even without using his chakra, he could sense the immense power radiating from the symbol. It felt different, almost as if it was made of pure energy.

Suddenly, a voice greeted him, "Hello there!"

Naruto would deny that such a simple greeting caused him to almost jump out of his skin and let out a pitiful squeak.

Instantly, his body was coiled once more, his eyes rapidly scanning to and fro, looking for the enemy that had suddenly become so close to him so suddenly. He was in a different place, yet he didn't want to be ambushed.

Naruto turned his head to the right in response to a voice that said, "Erm, hello?" He saw a figure standing behind a pedestal that was roughly his height.

The person was a male with bright sky blue eyes and sunny blonde hair styled in a carefree, yet impeccably maintained manner. He wore a long flowing robe mainly blue with golden cuffing on the ends and a bright golden-coloured symbol that looked akin to a cross on the lower portion of the robe. He also wore a dress vest underneath with a delicately tied bow, colored in a soft red, as well as cream-colored sleeves with golden cuffing. Naruto was shocked to see that the man had a pair of beautiful white wings on his back which seemed to be the same color and shade as his teeth when he smiled.

Naruto murmured a tentative "Hello?" as he was a little weary of this individual. He thought that the man's careful appearance meant that he was very stuck up or a dangerous person.

"Welcome to Heaven! My name is Saint Peter, but please call me Peter," he said with joy as Naruto noticed a glowing halo above his head.

"Thanks?" Naruto replied, feeling confused about what was happening. What was Heaven, exactly?

Suddenly, Saint Peter appeared holding a large, thick book. He opened it and looked at Naruto expectantly. "Now, what is your name?"

"Um, Naruto?"

"And your last name?" he asked, flipping through the pages of the book, most likely to the 'N' section if the little tags were anything to go by.

"Uzumaki."

Saint Peter hummed softly, his finger running along the pages of the book. However, as he started to flick through the pages, there was a noticeable frown on his face and his eyebrow started to lower more and more, "I can't find you on the list here, how odd," he said, taking a glance at Naruto before chuckling awkwardly. "Looks like we need to do it another way."

"What do you mean, do what in another way?" Naruto questioned, feeling increasingly impatient.

As Naruto stood in front of the pedestal, the man behind it didn't respond. He put the book down with a loud thump and clapped his hands twice. Suddenly, a golden bell appeared by the book, and he pressed a button.

A bright, golden light shot out from the opening and surrounded Naruto. He felt his skin crawl as the energy enveloped him. He wondered what this energy was and observed every detail of the golden light.

The man behind the pedestal muttered in surprise and a small hologram of Naruto's body appeared. It was completely covered in bright sky-blue, with the word "DEEDS" written above it. The man seemed excited and flicked his finger across the hologram to show another hologram of Naruto's body, labelled "SOUL". However, this one was mostly deep red with small bits of blue scattered throughout.

Suddenly, the man behind the pedestal screamed out in panic. He looked at Naruto with fear in his eyes and sweat dripping down his face. He chuckled awkwardly, "Erm, sorry young man," he said, although there wasn't any sympathy in his voice, "But you are not allowed in Heaven."

"Wait, what's happening!?" Naruto burst out, unable to contain his questions anymore. He wanted to know what was happening!

However, Saint Peter didn't reply to him. Instead, a large red button appeared behind him with large bold lettering that wrote out 'DENIED'. Within a split second, Saint Peter flapped his wings, causing him to hover a few feet off the ground before he spun around and pressed the button with all of his might.

*CLICK*

A foreboding clicking noise echoed around.

At first, nothing happened. Then suddenly, a terrible chill ran up and down his spine before he felt weird.

Casting a glance over his shoulder, his eyes widened in panic as he saw a bright golden portal open up behind him. He could see the very air around him distorting from the sheer suction of the thing. And it didn't take long for it to grab hold of his form, slowly pulling him back towards the entrance of the portal.

"W-wait!" Naruto called out, grimacing as he tried to force his attention back to Saint Peter. However, the hold on the portal was simply too strong, and all he could do was look out of the corners of his eyes, "Help me!"

A feeling of weightlessness suddenly overcame him as his entire body was forced off the ground. Now with little resistance keeping him at bay, his body was easily engulfed by the golden portal radiating twisted energy.

Before his vision was obscured by the inky blackness once more, Naruto could see the faintest traces of this 'Heaven' and Saint Peter before the portal closed up, leaving him in utter darkness.

Suddenly, unbearable pain flared throughout his entire body, causing his muscles to spasm and an excruciating headache erupted from his skull. It felt like his entire body was on fire, yet the pain was so great and unbearable that within moments his body had shut down once more, not willing to be forced to endure any more pain whilst awake and aware.

This would be the last time that Naruto Uzumaki would ever look human once more. And the Kyuubi residing in him would be no more as the power and twisted energies of Hell would forcibly enter his body, absorbing the pure chakra creature, altering his very DNA down to the core and forcing his body through tremendous changes.
