She Remembers- a reflection of sally and sonic
(This is just a short piece dedicated Sonic And Sally and is a reflection of how this upcoming holiday makes me feel. This is a personal one for me, that comes from the heart- and is about Archie Sally, as she is now, seeing IDW sonic from across a crowded room. If my other stories are the bittersweet fairy tale, then this is the cold, hard reality)
There he was, over there. Sitting in the restoration headquarters, and talking to Amy and Miles, laughing and joking.
She sits across the room, staring at him. Alone save for the few friends this new world had given her.
But her mind isn't on the here and now, it is on the world that was, on everything she had loved and lost.
She remembers.
She remembers the days when they were young, and they saw the monster as a joke, and it was all a game.
She remembers how they flirted and joked together, but didn't take their relationship seriously in those days.
She remembered the joke turned out to be a monster, and she nearly died, and it made them realize their love.
She remembers.
She remembers the retaking of her city, the return of those they lost, and her father coming back, hurt but alive.
She remembered that father being lost to madness, and those who had come back being forced to flee.
He comforted her then, and dried her tears, just as she would so many times before and after.
She remembers.
She remembers her father forbidding their love, and wanting her to immerse her self in her responsibility.
She had refused, refusing to wade into the pool of her father's demands, she would walk her own path.
He supported her through that, just as he always did. That was a sign of how strong their love was.
She remembers.
She remembered the return of the monster, and how he took of the friends, people and places they lost.
She remembers him learning his parents were alive, and how he had been lied to his whole life, his pain.
She had comforted him then, made him feel strong as he made her feel strong. Strength in each other.
She remembers
She remembers him disappearing into the void for a year, she thought him dead. Crying over him every day.
She remembers his return, his promise to love her, and their decision to be together, forever and always.
She remembers her childishness, when we would not give into hers, and the slap that ended their courtship.
She remembers, and regrets.
She remembers the others she sought solace in the arms of others...she remembers Ken, and Geoffrey, and their love.
She returned their love, both of them. But it was not the same, for they were not him, and she couldn't forget him.
He sought the love of others- of Mina, of Fiona, and even Amy over there- but it he said was not the same for him.
Oh how she remembers, and how she now regrets.
She remembers they found their way back to each other, how their love had conquered all, just like in the stories.
She remembered the monster turning her into a cold, soulless machine. They fought, and brought pain to each other.
She remembered crying out to him, trapped in that metal shell, but he could not hear her. No comfort for either of them.
This was a time she wished not to remember.
She remembered a vision of a possible future. She was his queen, and he her king. Two beautiful, happy children.
There friends all together, free and happy. Their life's struggles had meant something! Freedom and happiness!
The monster defeated, all of the pain and suffering behind them. New problems, but they could face them together!
That vision, was now but a memory.
She sees him now, sitting across the room. He does not remember. Doesn't remember the the good times or the bad.
He doesn't remember the tears and the pain, he doesn't remember the love and the loss. Doesn't remember the hurt.
He doesn't remember her love for him, and his love for her. This is a brave new world, and their love is not a part of it.
She remembers that she is truly alone.
Could she go over, and force those memories back? She probably could. They would hug, and cry, and be together.
But that would not be fair to him, because he wouldn't be loving her, as she was now. He'd be loving a memory.
And so, she would let him go, because she truly loved him. She would let him be happy and free in this world.
After all, she would always have... the memories.
...
This is dedicated to all of us who will be alone on this valentine's day..
To those of us who have loved, who have lost, and will forever be left with only the memory of that love,
tainted by a sad touch of regret.
