It's hard to let go
This is just a little one I made myself. Warning! Small season 4 spoilers ahead in this chapter. This is a little oneshot of David reacting to the apparently quite long Captain Swan kiss.
The whole family and Hook watched Emma storm out of Granny's. David and Hook got up at exactly the same time.
"I'll go." They said in synchronisation. David sighed.
"Haven't you done enough damage? You're the reason she stormed off in the first place. I can calm her down…"
"Exactly." Hook interrupted. "I made this mess, I'll fix it." Before giving David a chance to say his piece, Hook sprinted out after Emma. David went to follow, but Snow grabbed his arm.
"Give him a chance." She said gently. "You'll soon know if Emma needs you." David sighed, before grumbling under his breath and moving so he could see things better.
He faintly heard Hook calling Emma's name. It appeared Emma wasn't in the mood for listening. When Emma didn't stop, he saw Hook take her arm and turn her around. He growled slightly under his breath. He didn't like that. The sensible part of him remembered when Emma went to confront Regina and he'd done exactly the same thing, but he refused to remember that just now. He folded his arms tightly across his chest and watched the pair like a hawk. He saw them exchange a brief conversation before Hook moved in and kissed her. He rolled his eyes. It didn't seem like Emma was rejecting, but still…
"Come on." He mumbled to himself when it didn't seem like they had any intention of breaking apart.
"You don't seem to mind when it's you kissing me." A soft voice murmured from behind. David started, he hadn't even realised Snow was watching too. He frowned at her.
"But it's not you and me. It's her. And it's him." Snow bit her lip as she rocked Neal in her arms. It was hard not to laugh at the venom in David's voice when he said "him". She smiled understandingly.
"I know, but you need to let him have his chance. I remember what it was like, watching them get ready to go up that beanstalk together. I couldn't believe the look on my face wasn't frightening the life out of him. I went all out I'll have you know! But times have changed, he's changed. And more importantly than that he makes her happy. So try and keep your sword away, ok?" David gave one sad look back to Emma and the pirate. He knew Snow was right, but it didn't make it much easier. She'd been through so much already, he just wanted to make sure she didn't have to go through any more pain. But he would have to wait. Give Hook his chance. Only if he slipped up would he be there with his sword (providing Snow didn't beat him to it with her bow and arrows). He pulled Snow and Neal into his arms.
"It's my job to do the charming." He joked. Snow smiled at him.
"I've picked up a few tips from the best." She teased.
"I certainly hoped your daughter's picked up a few tips from her mother. I'd almost start to feel sorry for Hook if she has." Snow rolled her eyes. David made a mental note to try and encourage the pair to bond via archery lessons.
