Green eyed Momster
Elizabeth asked for a oneshot of Snow getting jealous of Emma spending a lot of time with Red, only to find out it was because Emma needed help working on a present for Snow.
To the guest who asked for a part 2 of "Emma goes thump in the night" I already have a chapter of Emma and Neal sick together :)
To the guest who worries about Hook, don't worry, he'll only be making minimal appearances where I feel necessary. :)
And to the guest who said I should re-write "It's hard to let go" with Snow "more in character" and said they don't like the way I have Snow and David in all of my stories, (And I do believe you've reviewed me before) I say this: I hate bananas. Everything about them. The way they taste, the way they smell, the mushy feeling. I am allowed to hate bananas and say that should it be appropriate. I don't, however, eat bananas knowing that I don't like them and then moan about it. Get the picture dearie? ;) I would have said that privately but as you're reviewing as a guest that was impossible :)
Snow sat in the booth at Granny's with Neal in his car seat beside her. She was watching Emma up at the counter with Red. They both look animated about something. Snow tried not to fold her arms across her chest and huff. Emma had been spending a lot of time with Red recently. Neal made a small gurgle beside her. Snow sighed and stroked his little cheek.
"I know." She whispered to him. "I'm just being greedy with your sister. But can I tell you a secret little man? I don't like it. She's telling your auntie Red things she's not telling me. I can tell they're sharing secrets. Shouldn't mommy be the one Emma shares secrets with, huh Neal?" Neal just blinked up at Snow. She smiled.
"I'll take that as you agreeing with me."
"What's he agreeing with you about?" Snow jumped, and turned around. She hadn't realised Emma had finished talking with Red and had come back over to Snow. Thinking on her feet, Snow said
"He's agreeing that he should have some guy time with daddy and Henry tonight so mommy can have some girl time with Emma. What do you say?" Snow had been beginning to wonder if Emma was upset with Snow for spending so much time with Neal and just needed some one on one time with her. The grimace on Emma's face made Snow's heart sink.
"I'm sorry mom, I can't. I've made plans with Red tonight…" Emma told her. Snow smiled, trying not to show her hurt.
"That's alright, what are you too up to then?"
"Oh you know, just a quiet drink."
"Oh, ok. Why don't I join you then? A little girl's night out." Snow suggested. She knew by Emma's face that she didn't like that idea. Snow forced a smile onto her face. "Now that I think about it, I'm busy tonight anyway. In fact I'd best go get started…" Snow got up suddenly. She had to leave before she cried.
"Mom wait!" Emma called out, not wanting to have her upset. But she couldn't tell her mom the truth. This was supposed to be a nice surprise, not hurt her.
"Sorry honey, have to go!" Snow called back, leaving. Tears already threatening to come out. Emma sighed, putting her face in her hands. She felt someone squeeze her shoulder.
"We can just tell her what's going on." Red said. Emma shook her head.
"No, I really want to surprise her. I'll make something up, she'll be ok. It's only another few days, right?" Red nodded.
"We'll be as quick as possible."
The next couple of days were more awkward than Emma had hoped they might be. Snow couldn't help but feel hurt at the amount of time Emma was spending with Red instead of with her and David. Not that she expected Emma to spend twenty four/seven with them, but she'd barely seen her. She felt someone hug her from behind.
"I know." Charming whispered. "We can't expect her to always want to be with us. And Red's her aunt, they should get to know each other too." Snow huffed.
"But we still don't know her all that well. I'm just worried she'll stop spending time with us altogether. I'm just worried she's jealous we're spending too much time with Neal. They talk about sibling jealousy in all the books." David chuckled softly. "It's not funny." Snow grumbled. David stifled his laughter.
"I know, I know. But she's not going to want to spend every day with us. Can you imagine how boring that would be? Spending every day with your parents? I know we missed out on twenty eight years, but smothering her now won't help." Snow nodded.
"I know. I'm going to go to bed. Night Charming." Snow whispered, not feeling any better.
Snow woke up the next morning to someone opening the door. Had she slept through Neal crying? Had David gone, settled him, and come back without her waking? She felt something being placed on top of her. She looked up to see Emma, not David. She looked down to see it was a cloak Emma had placed on her. Snow picked it up and looked at it with awe.
"Emma, this is beautiful! It's just like my favourite one from back home. Where did you get this?" Snow's eyes suddenly widened in horror. "Emma, please tell me you didn't make a deal with Rumple for this?" Emma smiled and shook her head.
"No, I didn't. Red and Granny have been helping me make that over the last week or so. Granny helped me with the actual making of the cloak, teaching me how to use her sowing machine and doing any of the particularly advanced parts. Whilst Red helped make sure it was just like your favourite one. I heard you say you missed it a couple of weeks ago and I thought I'd surprise you with a new one. I know it's not exactly like your old one…"
"No, you're right, it's not." Snow interrupted her. "It's even better. Thank you, Emma. This is one of the best presents I've ever received. Emma shrugged.
"Glad you like it." Snow suddenly felt very stupid, and guilty. She must have made Emma feel horrible the way she reacted. And all this time she'd been making this.
"Emma, I'm sorry. I've been pretty stupid, haven't I?"
"No, I understand. Just next time give it a few weeks before giving poor Red the death glare yeah?" Emma said with a smirk. Snow grimaced.
"I'd better call her and apologise." Snow took the cloak and draped it round her. This would definitely not be worn anywhere Neal!
