Chapter 5: Alaskan Adventures Invitations
One mild last Saturday of January 2024, I met up with my childhood friends Sarah, James, and Henri along with some of my other best friends Alex Russo, Justin Evans, Max Greenwald, Carly Shay, and Spencer Puckett as well as Carly's stepdad, Freddie Benson, at Pittsburgh's Perfect Parties client Abigail Carson's apartment in Point Breeze. "Hi, guys!" I greeted my friends. "Hi, Angel!" Sarah greeted back. We jammed out to Kate Bush, Lizzo, NSYNC, and 98 Degrees prior to the start of our shift. Abigail was making her invitations out of coffee filters, a silver pen, and glitter. "So, you will be 15 years old on your next birthday, huh?" James happily asked. "That's right," Abigail replied. "That is just one year away from sweet 16, where you can spend your next birthday at a car shop and maybe even go out for dinner at your favorite pizza place nearby," James stated. "I remember when James invited Angel and me to his birthday outing and it was a lot of fun," Sarah stated. "Plus, you girls are wearing all pink!" Abigail stated. "I would rather wear all black," Henri stated. "This was to fit into the environment of our classroom." "I thought that it was warm enough to wear a skirt rather than pants for our shift today," Sarah stated. "That has been a common theme this winter," I happily pointed out. "Plus, the air is filled with raindrops, not snowflakes, and that is all right with me, because I easily despise winter!" Then, after helping Abigail deliver the invitations to her Alaskan Adventure Sleepover, we headed to the Pittsburgh's Perfect Parties office in Monroeville for a lecture on independent living and financial wellness. "I didn't think that I would be able to live independently," Carly stated. "Even Nevel told me as a teenager that I was unable to do it!" "I like living in the apartment on Forbes Avenue with Carly's old friend, Spencer," Mr. Benson happily stated. "Now, we get to see the hustle and bustle of Squirrel Hill every day," Spencer happily stated. "Near the Blue Belt corresponding to the Disney movie Pocahontas according to one of my latest YouTube videos," I pointed out. "Okay, Angel," Carly stated. "Anyway, after my mom died, it would be even harder for me to live on my own, especially since I do not consider myself as much of a leader as Angel, Alex, and Sarah." "Speaking of leadership, did I tell you that Justin and I got interviewed for a new position at Music Support Group Academy in Turtle Creek?" Alex happily asked. "Yes, we wanted to tell you right away," Justin pointed out. "I wanted to apply for the position, but I do not consider myself as much of a leader as Alex and Justin," Max stated. "I wanted to arrange a summer outing right after our junior year of high school ended, but I did not exactly know how to." "I hope that you guys get the job!" I happily remarked. "Thanks, Angel," Alex happily replied. "I have one question, though," I pointed out. "How will you be able to do this job AND Pittsburgh's Perfect Parties at the same time?" "That is what I like about the position," Alex stated. We moved on to our other topic of financial wellness. "I will be able to make a lot of money and keep myself occupied, since I do not always like sitting around the condo doing nothing some days," Alex happily remarked. "Are you still going to run that camp in the South Hills next summer?" I asked Alex. "Probably not if I am preparing for this new job," Alex replied. "But, that doesn't even matter anymore! I could be rich and buy a very nice house along the Monongahela River. But, the money I use is for important things, like food, my phone, gas, internet, cable, electric, and the condominium rent." "That is what I like about having Alex as a friend," I stated. "She is cautious with her money saving it for important things but not spending it like crazy on unessential things." "If I did, then I would have no place to live," Alex pointed out. Once the discussion group was over, it was time for all of us to leave. "Thanks for a great evening, everyone!" I thanked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Good night, guys!" "Good night!"
