Chapter 6: A Picnic in Bradford Woods

The next day, we all met up in Bradford Woods for a picnic. "Hi, guys!" I greeted my friends. "Hi, Angel!" Sarah greeted back. We listened to NSYNC, 98 Degrees, Kate Bush, and Lizzo, as well as a few songs from Pop2K. Everyone picked out a different kind of food to bring. Carly picked garlic bread, Spencer picked M&Ms, Mr. Benson picked peanut butter cups, Alex picked chocolate chip cookies, Justin picked French fries, Max picked hot dogs, Sarah picked salted nuts, James picked lobster rolls, and Henri picked quesadillas. "Why didn't you pick a food to bring, Angel?" Alex asked me. "Because I am up for trying some new and different foods," I replied. "So, I would leave it all up to you guys!" "I picked garlic bread because it is one of the best sidekicks for Italian dishes," Carly stated. "I picked M&Ms," Spencer stated. "And, I picked peanut butter cups," Mr. Benson stated. "Going back to our discussion from living independently yesterday, Nevel would not let us eat candy or any other junk food," Carly stated. "So, we can pretty much eat whatever we want when we are on our own!" "Not so fast," Alex stated. "I baked these chocolate chip cookies from scratch because I am trying to stay healthy and lose weight." "I oven-baked these French fries," Justin stated. "And, I pre-grilled these hot dogs," Max stated. "Even though I stated how I am not much of a leader yesterday, I do know how to cook my own meals. Even if I tried to plan a summer event once the school year ended, at least I could always make good food." "I thought of how nice it was to have our Christmas party catered this year rather than a potluck," Justin stated. "We can always go back to a potluck next year." "I am thinking that our spring picnic should be catered this year, as well," Alex stated. "It would be less work on all of us." "I brought salted nuts because that was one of the snacks that I ate on the day of James's birthday outing prior to going out because I knew that we would be having a lot of junk food that night," Sarah stated. "I chose lobster rolls for something new and different just like Angel stated," James stated. "I chose quesadillas because I was in the mood for Mexican food for the second Sunday in a row," Henri stated. "We are blending into an all-black environment right now except we are not wearing all black clothes." "The girls' shout-outs were very accurate today," I pointed out. "Sarah wanted to listen to music, Carly was eating chocolate in total darkness, and Alex baked cookies without spreading gossip." Once the picnic was over, it was time for all of us to go home. "Thanks for a great day, everyone!" I asked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Good night, guys!" "Good night!"
