Planning

A guest asked for a oneshot of Emma not wanting to celebrate her birthday and Snow gets upset because in her mind it's the day she became a mom. Emma just thinks Snow is a hypocrite since Snow doesn't like to celebrate her own birthday either.

Emma was reading her book when a notepad and pen were slid on top of it. She looked up and saw her mom, looking rather over excited.

"What's this for?" Emma asked, gesturing to the notepad.

"For you to right down what you want to do to celebrate your birthday." Snow said with a grin.

"Oh, well that's easy." Emma said, picking up the pen. She simply wrote nothing on the page and handed it back to Snow, whose face instantly fell.

"Nothing? Come on Emma, we can't do nothing." Snow said dejectedly.

"Why not? It's what happened on my birthday all the rest of them." Emma said, going back to her book. Snow took the book from her, putting it on the coffee table. Emma sighed and looked up at her, knowing she wanted Emma to pay her some attention. She could see her mom looked quite upset.

"I thought you'd understand, you don't like celebrating your birthday either." Emma said.

"Well yeah but that's different. This is your birthday." Snow said. Emma raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, along with a heck of a lot of other people. It's nothing special." Snow was shocked. Was she really that dismissive about her own special day?

"Well yeah, but it's your birthday." Snow repeated. Emma nodded.

"Uh huh." She said slowly. "What's your point?" She asked.

"My point is you're not just anybody. You're my daughter. Your birthday is an incredibly special day. It's the day one of the most important people in my world was born and I don't think it should go uncelebrated."

"Shouldn't you really want to forget the day I was born? I can't imagine it was easy with no pain meds." Emma teased.

"Emma, I never want to forget that moment. It's the moment I became a mother. The first time I got to hear your voice. The first…and only…time I got to hold you in my arms."

"I don't see why I should have to celebrate my birthday when you don't." Emma huffed. Snow smiled.

"Because I'm the mom. So take a few hours and think. It doesn't matter if it's small, as long as we celebrate." Snow told her. Emma sighed.

"Fine." She groaned, taking back the notebook. She might be putting up a bit of a fight, but inside she was more than touched. Maybe a tiny family get together wouldn't be so bad.
