Dangerous thoughts
Anonymous asked for a oneshot of Emma having a little bit of trouble adapting to having a little brother.
Emma watched from her spot behind the door frame as her mother cradled her infant brother. Her father sitting on the arm of the chair, stroking his cheek. Both sharing a look of sheer love on their face. Smiles that made it seem like this was their perfect moment, nothing could make them feel more complete…and Emma felt out of the picture. She didn't know how exactly she felt about little Neal. It wasn't exactly jealousy, and it wasn't exactly envy, it was a mixture of the two. She loved him very much already, but couldn't help the hurt he caused her too. Emma felt like she'd finally gotten her happy ending, her family- her parents. And once again it had been snatched away from her. Her parents loved them both equally, and the sensible part of Emma knew that. But she couldn't help but feel shoved out. Like she no longer mattered, she'd been replaced and her job was done. Emma felt her stomach churn as once more the question slithered its way into her mind- what if they abandoned her completely? Emma shook her head, trying to rid herself of the thought, but it would not budge. The question haunted her, stalking her by day and preventing sleep at night. It made her feel like ice had wrapped right around her chest. She could not lose them, not again. She had been abandoned her whole life. Emma already felt lost with the question simply hanging over her. If they were to actually freeze her out…Emma did not know if she would cope.
Emma knew if she was noticed now her parents might be able to tell by her face that something was wrong. She didn't want that. They were happy with her brother, it would be selfish to bring them down with her sulkiness. So slowly, Emma crept away back out of the apartment. The question still whispering wickedly in her ear no matter how hard she tried to silence it.
