Sleep talk

A guest asked for a oneshot of Snow or Charming teasing an embarrassed Emma after she says either Mama or Daddy - or both - while sleeping.

Snow as usual checked on Neal and Emma before going to bed herself. Normally, Neal was sound asleep by this point and Emma still awake. But on this occasion Emma was too asleep. Snow smiled, looking in at her sleeping daughter. She was lying on her belly, one leg bent at the knee and her face turned to the side snoring peacefully. Snow noticed that the quilt had come up above Emma's feet. Not wanting her to catch a chill, Snow tiptoed into the room and gently rearranged the quilt, effectively tucking Emma in. Chancing her luck, Snow bent down and pressed a soft kiss to her daughter's cheek.

"Night sweetie." Snow whispered barely above a breath.

"Mama." Emma murmured back. Snow froze, frightened she'd woken Emma up. She relaxed when she realised Emma was still asleep. Only when she wasn't worried Emma was awake did she realise what Emma had said. Feeling light as air, Snow tiptoed back out of the room and downstairs to her own room.

"You took a little longer than usual tonight." Charming commented.

"Emma was asleep. Her quilt had come over her feet and I didn't want her catching a chill." Snow explained. "When I moved it back…she called me mama in her sleep." Snow told him, barely containing her excitement.

"Oh really?" Charming asked, raising an eyebrow. "That's a new one."

"Indeed it is." Snow said, snuggling into him.

The next morning Snow was fixing up breakfast when Emma came down.

"Morning." She mumbled sleepily.

"Good morning angel." Snow said, placing her mug of coffee on the table. "Sleep well?" Emma accepted the mug gratefully, nodding in response to Snow's question. Snow seemed to be looking at her awful weirdly. She could see her dad peeking at her from over his paper too.

"What's going on?" She asked. Both parents looked back as though they didn't know what Emma meant, but she wasn't having any of that. "Don't look at me like that. You're both acting really weird this morning. Spill." Snow and Charming had one of their eye conversations before they turned back to Emma.

"You called me mama in your sleep." Snow told her, grinning. It didn't escape either parents' notice that Emma went fairly pink.

"Oh." She mumbled.

"Look at you going soft." Charming gently teased.

"I always said she'd say mama before daddy." Snow said, winking at Charming earning an eye roll from both father and daughter.

"That doesn't mean she's a mama's girl. Emma's definitely a daddy's girl…"

"I'm right here." Emma interrupted it. "And I'm not Neal's age. I'm a grown woman! We aren't mama's or daddy's girls."

"Well last night would say otherwise." Snow countered. Emma huffed, getting up with her mug.

"I'll finish this in the living room." She told them, heading off. Snow and Charming shared a bit of a chuckle when she left.

"Still providing her with some embarrassing memories. A necessary part of any parent/child relationship." Charming said with a wink. Snow nodded in agreement.

"And if she thinks she's heard the end of this one she has another thing coming!"
