Adaption
StephyJ83 asked for a oneshot of Charming reassuring a jealous Emma after Neal is born.
Emma watched them from the kitchen. The way Snow smiled at her baby brother, kissed his little head…she had never done that with Emma. She knew it wasn't right to feel this way about a baby. It wasn't his fault- Neal didn't ask to be born. She didn't blame her parents, not really. Why shouldn't they go on to raise a child like they never got to with her? But still, it didn't mean she had to be happy about it. It was hard for her, seeing them be the parents they never were for her. Neal would grow up knowing he was loved. Whilst she grew up knowing she'd been given up. Emma wiped away a loose tear with her sleeve. She had to pull herself together. Without warning, Emma saw a tissue being put in front of her. She turned around to see who'd given it to her, and saw her dad.
"Thanks." She mumbled, quickly wiping her eyes. "Allergies."
"Uh huh." Charming said, clearly not believing her. "You wouldn't be the first person to be jealous of a little sibling you know…"
"I'm not jealous." Emma grumbled back. The look Charming gave her made it clear he still didn't believe her. "Ok, so maybe I'm a little bit jealous. But so what? It doesn't mean anything." She admitted.
"It means that you're worried we'll stop caring about you." Charming stated. Emma was a little taken aback. How had he worked that one out? "Emma, your mother and I knew you'd probably feel this way at some point even if you didn't think you would. But you don't need to worry. Your mother and I will never stop loving you. Yes, it's going to hurt seeing us get to do things with Neal we never got to do with you. Believe it or not that will hurt your mother and I too. Neal isn't here to replace you and what we missed with you, Emma. He's here to add to our family. You will always be our child just as much as Neal. If you start crying at three in the morning I'll be there for you too." Charming said with a light smile. Emma did her best to give a proper smile in return, but it was still too hard. Charming understood. This wasn't a little problem that could be fixed overnight. It was going to take time for Emma to adapt to the situation. It was going to take effort from him and Snow to make sure Emma felt included in the family still. But they would do it. They would do anything for both their children.
