Number one priority

guestemmanamenow asked for a oneshot of when Emma and Snow arrive in the Enchanted Forest in series 2, Snow awakes to find Emma tied up but not herself and gets protective.

Her head was spinning. She could feel the earth beneath her. Why was she lying in the dirt? Snow tried her hardest to start to piece things together again…wait. Snow. She was Snow White. She wasn't Mary Margaret.

"Let me go!" A voice interrupted her thoughts. Snow's eyes flew open and she bolted upright instinctively. That was her daughter's voice. Emma was in trouble. She would not let Emma down again. Snow found herself to be still in the small hole they'd created during their landing in the Enchanted Forest now with two guards of some sort. They advanced on her with ropes in their hands, trying to tie her up.

"I'm coming Emma!" Snow yelled up. With the adrenalin pumping through her veins it didn't take much for Snow to overpower the two guards. As soon as she had, Snow scrambled out of the pit. She quickly spotted Emma, standing with a female guard and what looked like a royal woman. They'd managed to tie Emma up, and the female guard was holding on to the other end of the rope.

"Let her go. Now." Snow snarled. Emma was shocked. How was this timid little school teacher Mary Margaret? But then Emma remembered, it wasn't. This was Snow White- the bandit princess. This was her mother and she was clearly pissed off.

"She is our prisoner now. And so are you." The guard replied coolly.

"We aren't anybody's prisoners. This is our homeland. However we do not wish to stay here. We wish to return back to where we came from, back to our family. So let my daughter go."

"Your daughter?" The other woman asked. "How is that possible?"

"That is none of your concern. What is your concern is if you do not let her go I will hurt you both." Snow replied coldly.

"Don't be stupid!" Emma shouted. "You're free! Go, find a way home to David and Henry!"

"I'm not leaving you. Never again." Snow responded, not taking her eyes off of the guard. Snow was unarmed, and this woman had a sword. But more importantly she had Emma. If Snow wasn't careful Emma might get hurt. She took a step forward and the guard pulled her sword out, pointing it at Emma's throat. Snow felt the rage roar within her.

"Take another step forward and I will hurt her." The guard warned. Emma was totally overwhelmed. She had a sword. Who has swords?! Snow could see this was not the time to fight. If she wanted to save Emma she would need a better opportunity. Snow held her hands out.

"Fine. You win."

"What? Mary Margaret, no!" Emma said, horrified. What was she doing?

"Yes, Emma." Snow said firmly. "I'm not letting them take you anywhere without me." She told her daughter as the guard tied her up.

"We have them both." She announced to the royal looking woman as she got on her horse. "We can go back." The royal nodded and followed the guard's lead by getting on her horse.

"Are you alright?" Snow asked Emma quietly. "Have they tied the knots too tightly? If they have I'll make them stop and loosen them…"

"I'm fine." Emma cut her off. "I just don't understand why you didn't run. You could have gone home. Or could have come back for me with a weapon."

"I wasn't leaving you with them." Snow said firmly. "I still plan on getting us out of this. But when the time is right and when we can go together. Now they're not going to go too slowly with that horse. I've seen this before. Try to walk pretty quickly, but don't run. You'll waste energy that way. If needed you can jump on my back." Snow told her. Emma raised an eyebrow.

"I think I'll be ok." She answered her. This was a brand new side to her roommate. Mary Margaret had always been caring, but Snow seemed right now to only care about Emma. Like nothing else mattered. Emma could see that the ties around her wrists were digging harshly into the skin, but she didn't put up a fuss for herself. Emma was so focused on working out Snow that she didn't see the rock in front of her and tripped up over it.

"Emma!" Snow shouted, concerned. She quickly went over and helped her up. "Stop the horse!" Snow demanded. "I need to make sure she's ok."

"Her health isn't our problem." The guard told Snow.

"Yeah, well it is mine. So unless you want me to be very difficult I suggest you stop this horse and let me check on my daughter." Snow threatened. The guard sighed, but did stop. "Where did you fall on?" Snow asked Emma. Emma could sense Snow wasn't going to stop fussing until she'd checked Emma over so decided just to go with it.

"Uh my right knee…" Emma responded awkwardly. Snow went to work at gently rolling up Emma's trouser leg until the knee was exposed. She tried her best to rub away the little bit of dirt that surrounded the cut.

"Not too bad." She told Emma. "I'd rather be able to disinfect it. But that's not really an option here. Can you walk ok?" Snow asked her, ignoring the glares from the guard.

"It's just a little cut…"

"That's not what I asked." Snow interrupted.

"Yes. I'm fine." Emma answered her. Snow nodded.

"Good. Say if it gets sore. You could have jarred it when you fell." She turned to the guard. "We can carry on." The guard gave a brisk nod before moving off again. Emma paid more attention now, but still thought about this new Mary Margaret. It was becoming clearer and clearer that this woman would do anything for Emma, and that scared her. What if she got them both killed because she didn't understand this land? Emma was concerned, what if she messed up their chances for both of them?

Meanwhile Snow was focused on one goal and one goal only- keeping them both together.
