The best thing for a sore throat

EmmaMeline asked for a oneshot of Emma's first words after throat surgery.

"Come on Emma." Charming prompted her. "You have to start speaking some time." Emma shook her head defiantly. She'd had her tonsils taken out a few days ago and since then written messages seemed like the new way forward for Emma. It was hard enough eating. Emma had never felt more jealous of people who got them taken out as kids. Children in her homes who'd got them taken out boasted of the amount of ice cream they'd been given to help them. But when you're an adult it's just toast. Emma had requested ice cream but had been denied by Whale. Part of the sudden muteness was a bit of a silent protest.

"Emma, to help your throat heal properly you need to speak." Emma told her. "Come on. It's been almost a week now. Let's hear that lovely voice." Emma simply rolled her eyes. Bribery would get them nowhere. Charming sighed.

"It's no good Snow. We need to go for plan b." He suddenly left the room. Emma gave her mom a confused look.

"I don't understand your look Emma. You'll need to ask me what's going on. Whale says you're more than able to speak now." Emma simply huffed, folding her arms across her chest and slumping down the bed. Charming came back into the room with a bowl and a spoon. Emma sat up, her eyes sparkling. She reached her hands out, but Charming held the bowl out of reach.

"Two sentences or no ice cream." He bargained. Ok, apparently bribery would get them somewhere.

"Thanks for my ice cream dad." Emma said croakily. Charming gave a massive whoop.

"Knew it, knew I'd get dad before mom!" Snow and Charming had a bit of a bet on as to what Emma would say first when she could speak again- mom or dad. Emma could see her mom looking a little sulky in her seat. She still had another sentence to give. "I love you mom." Snow looked over at Emma, surprised and touched.

"I love you too, Emma." Snow replied, as Charming moodily handed over the ice cream knowing he'd been bested. Emma grinned happily, sinking the spoon triumphantly into the bowl. She would give them both every soppy sentence in the world if it meant weeks of only ice cream just now.
