Cons of the job

A guest asked for a oneshot of little Emma being sick and comforted by her parents.

"Mama!" Emma wailed. Snow rubbed gentle circles on her back.

"I know princess. Daddy will be back with your medicine soon." Emma had caught some sort of stomach bug. She'd been throwing up none stop for the last day, as well as having a sky high temperature. Snow was currently sitting in her bed with Emma in her lap and holding a bucket in front of her. Snow felt immensely relieved when she saw Charming rushing back into the room with the crushed up herbs in the warm water.

"Here we are baby." He said, coming over and holding it in front of Emma's lips. "Drink this sweetie. It'll make you feel much better." Emma shook her head, keeping her lips tightly shut. "Come on angel, for daddy."

"But it makes me sick." Emma whimpered. That made Charming's heart break. He didn't want Emma to think they were making her be sick, but they had to give her this to help her. The water with the herbs would get some fluids into her too.

"I know it feels like it does, but it really is making you better. Trust daddy and take some baby." Hesitantly, Emma opened her mouth and allowed her daddy to help her drink the mixture. "There's my big brave girl." Emma cuddled back into her mommy. The herbs had the added benefit of making Emma very sleepy. It didn't take long for her to fall back asleep again. Which was good as she hadn't slept much during the night.

"I hope she isn't like this too long. I hate seeing her sick." Snow whispered, carefully lying Emma down. Charming nodded in agreement, stroking her still fevered cheek. Snow noticed his frown and grabbed the wet rag from the bowl of water and gently wiped Emma's head, hating the way it made her frown.

"Doc things it'll pass within a couple of days. We'll just have to ride it out until then." Snow moved some of Emma's hair from out of her face. It was never easy when Emma was sick. Neither of them got much sleep. They were frightened to sleep in case she choked on her vomit. They were soothing her temperature. They were trying to comfort a very distressed little girl. But it was all simply part of their job as her parents. This was simply the cons of the role.
