We can't do everything alone
I've had a few requests for Snow and Charming going looking for Emma after the events of 4x07 so again I'll try and please everyone as best I can otherwise you'll all have to read 4 or 5 versions of basically the same chapter lol. As I've combined a fair few similar requests this might be a bit longer than ususal…
The group watched Emma leave feeling stunned. It had all happened so fast. Each felt guilty in their own way. Hook for pushing her, Elsa for not helping her with her magic, Charming for not stopping her leaving and Snow for making her daughter think she was mad. Each failed like they had failed Emma, but none more so than her parents. The group certainly were not in the mood for who was coming. The cold, humourless laugh. Elsa of course recognised it immediately. She spun around with an ice shard in her hand ready to strike, but her aunt was just as prepared.
"Now Elsa." She said calmly. "Don't lose your temper with your deal old aunt."
"Where is my sister!" Elsa demanded. The Snow Queen sighed.
"I've already told you dear. I don't know. All I can tell you is that she put you in that urn. All I want is to help you and Emma find the families you deserve…"
"Hey!" Charming cut in. "You've done enough damage to Emma. Don't you dare fill either her or Elsa's head with this family rubbish. They have the families they deserve. We will find Elsa's sister, we know she's alive. And Emma has her family right here." The Snow Queen raised an eyebrow.
"The family who have just abandoned her? You don't understand Emma, I do. You're frightened of her. She deserves a family who doesn't fear her. Who doesn't replace her…"
"Emma was never replaced!" Snow said, anguished. "We added to our family, which does not mean we don't love Emma." Snow said, tears in her eyes. The Snow Queen laughed again.
"Is that what you tell yourself to help you sleep at night?" She questioned. Snow felt like her insides had turned to ice, it seemed the Snow Queen didn't need to use her powers to make people freeze.
"She's just stalling us!" Hook said angrily. "Emma's out there and we need to find her."
"Or maybe, she doesn't want to be found?" The Snow Queen said. "You don't seem to be very good at reading her, dear. Emma asked you to stand back and you didn't. Look what happened, you caused this mess." Hook went to go forward and show the Snow Queen just what he thought of her, but Charming pushed him back.
"Stop." He told Hook. "She's not worth it. You're right. We need to find Emma." Charming told him, ignoring the Snow Queen. "You and Elsa take the forest and the beach. We'll look everywhere else." Charming turned to Snow. "You get into the cruiser. I've got to grab something from the station." Charming kissed her head and sprinted inside the hole Emma had created in the wall. Elsa and Hook had also sprinted off towards the beach. Snow was left with the Snow Queen.
"Stay out of our way." She warned her darkly. "If you prevent us from finding our daughter, I will show no mercy." The Snow Queen seemed slightly amused by Snow's threat.
"I won't stop you. I don't have to. You're doing the damage yourself. Soon you'll totally push Emma away. And then she'll come to me and you'll have nobody to blame but yourself." With a blast of icy air, the Snow Queen was gone. Snow tried to shake off her words as she walked to the cruiser and waited for Charming. He joined her about a minute later. He placed a cassette in the machine.
"This a recording of Emma's interview with the Snow Queen, it might give us a clue as to where Emma's gone…"
There was a horrid silence in the car after the tape finished playing. Snow felt awful. Emma had tried to defend them to the Snow Queen, and then Snow treated them like that? The pair now had a new understanding of how Emma might be feeling. Emma didn't really think they loved Neal more because he might not have magic, did she? Emma was right when she told the Snow Queen that they loved her for who she was. They had to find her. They had to show Emma the Snow Queen was wrong. Snow dropped her head into her hands.
"Where can we find her?" Snow sighed, frustrated. "She could be anywhere."
"Emma's going to go somewhere we'd expect her. Because she doesn't think we'll look there." Charming said. "Somewhere with enough space that if her magic goes again she won't damage anything or be seen. My bet is the warehouse where Zelena stayed. It doesn't matter if she damages anything there." Charming said, taking a sharp turn to the right to get to the warehouse.
Charming was right. Emma was indeed hiding in the warehouse. She was crouched behind a pillar, trying to stop her hands glowing. She had hurt her dad, could have killed him or Hook. She was a monster. No wonder her mom stopped her from holding Neal. She could hurt him. She would go back when she was sure they would all be out and take out her stuff. They wouldn't want her there anymore. Emma jumped when she heard a noise outside. No, no no no. That was a car door. Someone was here. Someone had found her. Emma's heartbeat sped up and her hands started glowing even brighter. Emma tried her best to calm down, but it wasn't working. Emma tried her best to hide her hands as she heard the door creak open.
"Emma?" Emma closed her eyes and bit her lip. That was her mother's voice.
"Emma, it's us sweetheart." And that was her father's. Of all the people she didn't want to find her it was them. She couldn't stand the fear in their eyes. The disappointment.
"Emma, please. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it, I didn't. We're not frightened, honey." Snow tried to convince her.
"We got the recording of your interview with the Snow Queen. You were right, Emma, she was wrong. We do love you for who you are. We're not frightened. We love you and Neal equally. We don't love him more for not having powers. Please Emma, if you're here come out." Emma knew it was pointless hiding, they'd find her within seconds of beginning to search the little warehouse. Slowly, Emma walked out from behind the pillar.
"Don't come any closer." She warned her parents as they began to approach her. "Please, I don't want to hurt you. Not again." It broke Snow and Charming's hearts to see the pain in her eyes.
"Emma, it's alright." Charming tried to assure her. "I'm ok, it was just an accident."
"Emma, you don't have to hide from us." Snow said, as they both edged closer slowly. "You are safe with us. You are always safe with us. We trust you." Snow said gently. Emma was shaking, but didn't stop her parents as they came yet closer. She still didn't stop them when they reached their arms out and wrapped her in a secure hug.
"It's ok." Charming told her. "We'll sort this all out. We're with you every step of the way. You're not alone, Emma. You'll never be alone again."
"Really?" Emma asked weakly. She wanted to believe them, she really did. But any time that promise had been made to her it had been broke. Charming moved back slightly so Emma could look into his eyes.
"Really." He promised. Emma nodded, believing him.
"Ok." She whispered. She trusted them that they wouldn't leave her again, for Emma that was a big step. She could see an end now. She could sort this out. But she couldn't do it alone. And now she knew she wouldn't have to.
