The safest place right now

LyssLovesShules33 asked for a oneshot why Snow was locked in the cell in the 4x10 trailer.

"Are you sure about this?" Emma asked, uncertain. Snow nodded, sitting down on the bench, rocking Neal in her arms.

"Positive. It's the best thing to happen. Ingrid has cast this shattered sight spell, and that means your father and I aren't going to be ourselves until you beat her. I don't want to say something I know I'll regret." Snow told her. She knew Emma wasn't comfortable leaving not just her, but Neal in the cell. But she knew they'd be fine. Snow made sure she had everything she needed to keep herself and Neal safe for nearly a week. Not that she'd need most of it. She had every confidence in Emma's ability to defeat the Snow Queen. "Emma, don't worry. We'll all be fine. Neal and I will be fine here and your father will be fine locked in one of the rooms at Granny's." Snow had insisted she and Neal take the cell. She felt she'd be less able to get out and say something hurtful that way. Besides, she'd never tell Granny this but the cell was warmer.

"But what if I can't do this?" Emma said quietly. "What if she wins and you're left locked in here?" Snow could see right through Emma's walls now. Right through to the scared little girl- her scared little girl. She stood up with Neal settled in one arm and walked to the bars. She reached her free arm through and Emma walked forward, allowing her mom to cup her cheek.

"You can do this, Emma. Your father and I have every faith in you. I wouldn't let you lock me and Neal in here if I didn't." Snow did have faith in Emma, but it didn't mean it didn't hurt both seeing her in pain and knowing she had to take on the Snow Queen without her and Charming to help her. Seeing Emma so teary made the tears build up in Snow's own eyes. Both refused to actually cry though, not wanting the other to see. She dropped her hand from Emma's face and looked at her seriously.

"Take on the Snow Queen and win." She told Emma. "We all know you can. You're the saviour. But promise me one thing Emma…don't kill her. You leave that to your father and I for her even thinking she could steal our daughter." Emma nodded. "It's ok. Go. The spell will take effect soon and I don't want you around me when it does. I don't want to say anything hurtful to you ever again. Be careful Emma, and know that your father and I love you very much."

"I know…I love you both too." Emma said, voice breaking with emotion.

"Go." Snow encouraged her. Emma nodded again, backing out of the room. Only when they were out of each other's sight did both break down in the tears they'd hidden from the other.
