One box

A guest asked for a oneshot of Emma and Mary Margaret in season one with Mary Margaret wondering why Emma has so little stuff.

"And finally this is the kitchen." Mary Margaret said, concluding Emma's tour of the apartment. "We can just split the grocery shop and that saves us having to label anything, that sound ok?" Emma nodded, giving the woman an awkward smile which Mary Margaret returned. "Well, I'll leave you to put your stuff up in your room. Well, the stuff you have with you anyway. I guess you'll be going back to Boston at some point to get the rest?" Emma shook her head.

"No need. My landlord is shipping the box out here."

"Box?" Mary Margaret asked, unable to help herself. Emma nodded awkwardly.

"Um yeah…I'm not sentimental about stuff. Just weighs you down. Saves me money on shipping anyway." Emma joked, trying to lighten the mood. Mary Margaret smiled half-heartedly, feeling quite sad for the other woman. It wasn't even a friend or family member moving her stuff on- it was her landlord. Something about that told her that Emma wasn't in the habit of forming attachments to anything or anyone. But it wasn't her place to pry. However she felt irrationally angry towards Emma's parents. For all she knew they were dead, but she had a weird feeling that they weren't. Emma had walked away to put her things upstairs, but Mary Margaret couldn't shake Emma's sad little look from her mind. No matter how hard Emma tried to hide it. She felt so bad for her. What kind of parents abandon their child?
