Who first?
Dancing4Every1 asked for a oneshot of Snowing in a competition to get Emma to say mom or dad first. She says dad first and reasons it with she never knew him before the curse so can see him more as a parent. Again, sorry for the wait! Set during season 2.
"Hey Emma, what's that saying? You know when someone says they'll keep something a secret and they say something's the word…"
"Oh, you mean m-"
"That's cheating!" Charming interrupted, bursting into the living room. Snow huffed at being caught out, she thought she'd been quite clever.
"What's cheating?" Emma asked, confused as to why Charming looked so miffed.
"Nothing." Charming replied, raising an eyebrow at Snow. She just gave a mischievous grin in return. She and Charming were in a competition to get Emma to say their title first. Charming wasn't going to let Snow win by a technicality.
A week later and Emma was sitting at the table with her parents. Charming was busying himself with a report he had to fill out.
"David, can you pass the salt?" Emma asked him. He didn't seem to hear her. "David…" Emma repeated. Still nothing. "Charming?" Nope. Nothing. "Dad!" Charming's head shot up. Had he just heard what he thought he did? "Finally, pass the salt please." Snow's jaw was about to hit the floor. Emma had said dad over salt?
"Did- did you just call me dad?" Charming stammered. Emma blushed slightly.
"Well you weren't answering me." She mumbled.
"You've not called me mom even to get my attention." Snow grumbled. Emma felt bad. She was clearly jealous. Emma reached out and put her hand over Snow's.
"I'm sorry. Please don't feel bad. It's just, you were my friend for a year before I found out who you really are. You were the best friend I ever had, and it was weird finding out you're actually my mother. With David, there isn't that barrier. We weren't ever really friends. It's less of a leap…and I really wanted the salt."
"Well here you are honey." Charming said, passing the shaker over.
"Thanks." Emma said quietly, feeling quite awkward about the whole situation. She wasn't ready to call them mom and dad on a regular basis yet, so didn't want David getting used to it. And she felt awful for Mary Margaret. Emma sighed. She was going to have to make it even. "Good dinner mom." She said nonchalantly. Snow looked up from her plate and gave Emma a warm smile. She knew Emma had done that for her benefit, but it still made her feel so happy. Emma recognised them as her parents.
"You're welcome honey." Snow looked over to Charming and beamed. He winked at her, and Snow knew exactly what that wink meant. I win.
