Spiteful words
Wanli8970 asked for a oneshot of Snow and Charming saying some hurtful things to Emma whilst under the curse of shattered sight and Emma retaliating with some home truths of her own. Quite a few people have asked for a similar oneshot so this is for all of you too! Boy this was a hard chapter to write!
Emma's heart was pounding as the curse cloud filled the station. It was gone almost as quickly as it had arrived. When she was sure Neal was safe, she looked up at her parents with bated breath. Was their true love enough to save them? Her heart sank, it appeared not. They gave each other contemptuous looks as their hands separated and they backed away from each other.
"You." Charming snarled at Snow.
"You." Snow hissed back, her voice filled with just as much venom. Elsa seemed to have realised Kristoff was going to be a problem and had grabbed a pair of handcuffs and attached him to Emma's desk. He was busy cursing her off. "I really should have killed you when I had the chance." Snow growled. When you dove in front of my arrow I wish you went just a little further so my arrow went right through your heart."
"I should have left you up in that tree to starve to death. Slowly and painfully, no more than a coward princess who abandons her kingdom deserves…"
"At least I'm a real princess! You're just a fraud! A stupid little farm boy!"
"That is enough!" Emma shouted. She wasn't used to hearing her parents be so spiteful towards each other. She knew it was just the curse talking, but that didn't make it easy for her to hear. Snow and Charming turned to her, as if just remembering she was there.
"Oh, you're still here are you?" Snow said dismissively. "I thought you would have left the second you got a chance. That's what you've wanted to do all along. Leave."
"That- that's not true…" Emma tried to defend herself.
"Look at you. Trying to defend yourself. You're no daughter of mine. You almost had me killed. I should have just left you for Regina to finish off. It would have been so much easier." Charming spat at her. Emma was flabbergasted. Even when she knew this was coming, she never imagined they'd be so cruel.
"Remember, it's just the curse talking." Anna whispered to her. "They don't mean it…"
"Oh yes I do." Snow interrupted her. "You don't care about me. Well newsflash sweetheart. I don't care about you either. You or the brat. You have his disgusting DNA floating around in you. How could I ever love you?"
"My DNA? I think you'll find it's your genes that make them unlovable!-"
"Well being unloved is nothing new to me." Emma said bitterly. "Maybe you're right dad. Maybe it would have just been wiser to leave me to Regina to be killed. But since I am alive and since my son is out there, I'm going to go and break this stupid curse for him."
"Why? You don't care about him. He's just a nuisance to you. He's an irritating brat anyway." Charming said dully. Emma gritted her teeth, barely restraining herself from going over and punching him.
"Here." Emma said, handing Neal over to Anna. "If I'm going to defeat this Ice Queen I need to know he's safe. Watch over him. Don't let my parents anywhere near him…"
"As if I want to be near either of you." Charming said with a cruel laugh. Emma chose to ignore him. She motioned to Elsa to follow after her. They left the station together to find Ingrid and break this curse.
A few hours later
A bright light flashed through the town. Everywhere people blinked rapidly, the magic glass power being removed from their eyes. Their minds becoming clear once again.
"Charming?" Snow said tentatively.
"Snow!" Charming came rushing forward to the shared bars. They heard Neal's cries. Snow saw him in Anna's arms.
"Open the door." She said, unable to stand it. "Please, let us see our son." Anna looked visibly relieved. She opened the door and Snow practically grabbed Neal off her. As soon as Charming was out he was by her side in an instant. Kissing both of their heads.
"Emma." He said, voice filled with pain. "Snow…we said some unforgivable things…" Now that her mind was clear Snow could remember what she'd said to her daughter. She was filled with so much shame.
"Charming, what have we done? What we said…"
"Was under a curse." Snow and Charming's heads snapped up. Emma was standing at the door, clearly having been in battle. Henry by her side.
"Emma!" They both cried, relieved. They ran towards her, wrapping them both into a family hug.
"We're so sorry." Charming croaked. "What we said…it was disgusting.
"I understand. It's alright." Emma responded. Snow and Charming could tell Emma hadn't forgiven them completely. Not yet at least. Their words were still lingering in her mind. Wondering if there was any truth in them at all. But it was ok, they would start again. They would mend the damage. Well, as best they could anyway. They would show Emma there was no truth behind their words during the curse. They would remind her just how loved she really was.
