A serious intervention

Soprano Pixie asked for a oneshot of Emma using her new found bird communication skills to her advantage. I've taken a bit of a different twist on this, hope you still like it!

"I'm home!" Emma called, locking the door behind her.

"We're in the living room honey. Can you come through and join us?" Her mom's voice called her through, sounding unusually serious.

"Um sure." Emma said, dumping her bag down and wandering through. "Oh, hello everyone." She said, noticing it wasn't just her parents in the room. Sitting around on various chairs were her parents, Hook, Henry and Regina. Neal was in his playpen in the corner. He seemed like he was picking up on the seriousness of everything and didn't even smile when he saw his sister come in.

"Sit down, sweetheart." Charming told her, indicating to the only free seat in the room. "We need to talk to you."

"Has someone died or something?" Emma asked, as she cautiously took the seat on the stool they'd set up in the middle of the room. She felt quite exposed with the five pairs of eyes staring right at her.

"No, nobody's died Emma…we wanted to have a bit of an intervention with you, Emma. We think you have a bit of a problem and we're all here to help you." Snow told her. Regina scoffed at that, but with a stern look from Snow kept her mouth shut.

"A problem? Intervention? Do you guys think I'm on drugs or something? I know I like my caffeine but I wouldn't call it a problem…"

"No Emma, not drugs." Charming cut in, a slight smile tugging at his lips. "We know you're excited you inherited your mother's ability to communicate with birds…but you're taking things a bit far-"

"A bit far? I was cleaning bird crap from my office for three days! Miss Swan, if you want to tell me Henry wants to stay over an extra day in future use the telephone." Regina snapped. Emma was quite shocked. She bit her lip to stop herself from laughing at how serious she looked over something so stupid.

"Come on guys, really? I thought something serious was going on! And be fair, I'm saving so much money on a phone bill. And there's no autocorrect to worry about. I just tie a message to their leg- or tell them what to say in mom's case- and off they go."

"Mom, it's embarrassing!" Henry complained. "Every other kid just gets told their mom called the office if there's a message. For me a stupid robin comes flying onto my desk and pecks my finger until I untie the message from his leg. I had to get a plaster!" Henry held out his finger for his mom to see. Ok, she did feel a little bad about that.

"I'm sorry kid. I'll send you a bluebird next time, they're much friendlier…"

"Oh for crying out loud Miss Swan!-"

"Let's all stay nice and calm." Charming said, trying to stop Regina from throwing one of her trademark fireballs at Emma. "Emma, I think you're missing the point here sweetheart." Charming said gently. "Whatever bird it is, they still make a mess."

"Noisy buggers too." Hook added. "Even I think you're going too far with this, Swan. I appreciate the morning messages you sent me but I preferred them on the talking phone and I didn't get them until I woke up, and that's saying something…"

"Again, it's just called a phone." Charming sighed. "And what exactly are these morning messages you receive from my daughter, pirate…"

"Ok point taken, the birds are irritating people." Emma said, changing the subject. "I'll cut down, everyone happy?"

"Yes." Everyone said at once.
