The downside of the job

Megs asked for a oneshot of Charming and Emma spending the day at the station. They spend the day catching up on paperwork and just chatting with each other.

Emma sighed loudly. This was the part of the job she hated-paperwork. Especially since she and her father hadn't had a chance to do any for months. What with multiple curses and villains.

"That's not going to get it done any quicker." Charming gently chastised her. He and Emma couldn't see each other over the large piles of paperwork they each had. Emma spied an opportunity.

"You know…" Emma began cautiously. "One of us should really be patrolling in case something happens…"

"Not a chance." Charming cut her off. "You are not leaving this station until that paperwork is finished."

"I thought I was the sheriff and you were the depute…" Emma grumbled.

"Yeah and I'm the father and you're the daughter." Charming countered. "So really, you should be doing what your old dad tells you and doing his paperwork for him…"

"There is no chance that is happening." Emma told him. Well, it was worth a try. "I hate writing stuff. I was always the kid that was never a word over the word limit." Emma told him.

"Yeah, my genes didn't help you there. I tried to coax the other kids into doing my homework for me. My mom found out and I don't think I was able to sit for a fortnight." Charming admitted. Emma laughed at the image of her father as a little boy getting told off for his laziness.

"Pity you weren't raised a royal like mom. A bet they had scribes or something…"

"Oh that's where you're wrong. Royals had a very high education. They had to do even more paperwork than we're doing now. We were already searching for the best tutors for you before you were born." Charming told her.

"Really? Even if I was a Princess I wouldn't have escaped paperwork?"

"Emma, you still are a princess." Charming reminded her. "Why don't you look on the station's paperwork as your substitute? You know, your handwriting is so much neater than mine. It would be a lot easier for everyone to read if…"

"Still not a chance." Emma cut in. "I see you haven't changed your old ways then? You're not charming your way out of this." Charming chuckled.

"Your mom doesn't call me Prince Charming for nothing. But point taken… since neither of us is getting out of this, why don't we make it a little more interesting. Last to finish pays for two ice cream sundaes at Granny's?" Charming offered. Emma grinned.

"You're on." She agreed. "But won't mom be annoyed we got ice cream before dinner? She has a thing about that."

"I was thinking this could be our little secret?" Charming said subtly. Emma laughed.

"Good idea dad. I'll be having the rocky road."
