Struggling for breath
Belle97 asked for a oneshot of Emma and Charming chasing down a villain. Emma has an asthma attack, but Charming doesn't know she has asthma.
"Emma cover left!" Charming quickly shouted. Emma quickly swerved to the left as she and her dad chased a petty thief through the back alleys of Storybrooke. Damn this guy was fast. Emma could feel her chest beginning to tighten. She tried to push through, he was not going to get away. Besides, she hadn't had an attack since she was a kid. Surely she was just a little puffed out? Her chest kept getting tighter, she couldn't breathe. Emma had to stop, bending over double, wheezing. Charming saw her stopping. He looked over to her and saw she was having trouble.
"Emma!" He yelled. The thief could wait, they would put up flyers and catch him another day. Emma on the other hand was in serious trouble. He rushed to her side. "Emma, what's wrong?" He could hear how laboured her breathing was.
"Asthma." Emma gasped between wheezes. Emma vaguely pointed back down the alleyway. "Inhaler…glove compartment." Charming was torn. He didn't want to leave Emma alone in this state, but she needed that inhaler. There was no other option, he would take her with him.
"Emma it's all going to be ok." He said calmly. "We're going to get that inhaler. Just try and take deep, slow breaths until then." Emma nodded. She got a bit of a fright when Charming suddenly picked her up and started sprinting back down the alley, but she was too focused on her breathing to say anything. Charming didn't stop until he was right beside the bug. Emma reached into her pocket and shakily handed her dad the key. He took it and as quickly as his hands would allow, he unlocked the door and opened the glove compartment. He rummaged around until he saw the little blue inhaler. Charming grabbed it, and handed it over to Emma who was sitting on the ground beside the car.
After using the inhaler, it only took a few minutes for Emma to feel her chest begin to loosen again. She looked up at her dad and nodded.
"I'm ok now." She assured him. Charming's heart was still hammering in his chest. He bent down so he and Emma were eye level.
"Why didn't you ever mention to your mother or I that you had asthma?" He asked her.
"I haven't had an attack since I was a kid. Didn't see the point. The inhaler's only in the car because I shoved it in there when I got out of jail."
"Well guess where it lives now." Charming grumbled disapprovingly, taking the inhaler from her hand and placing it in her pocket. "Right here. If we're chasing someone and you start to feel wheezy just stop. I'll carry on unless you need me. No arguments. You come before some petty criminal. Now come on, get in the car." Emma rolled her eyes but got up and went to sit in the driver's seat- but Charming stopped her. "Oh no, not so soon. I'll drive. But we're not going straight home. We're going to the hospital."
"Don't you think you're overreacting? It was just a little asthma attack, I'm fine."
"Well you have two choices." Charming said calmly. "Either we go straight to the hospital…or I take you home and you face your mother." Emma quickly got into the passenger seat. "Hospital it is."
